Infergen Bloodwork

I started my Infergen treatment on September 12, 1999. I am a genotype 1a. I will keep track of my bloodwork on this page and update it as we continue to monitor it. This is my 3rd round of treatment since my biopsy in February 1998. I started Intron A in March of '98 and Rebetron in July 1998. I did not respond to either of those treatments. Hopefully, this treatment will work for me. I am doing 15mcg daily for the first 12 weeks, if I make it that long!

The PCR will only be done on Sept. 13 and then again the first of December. We checked my thyroid so I would know where I am before starting treatment. My T-4 is 7.2, my T-3 is 21.3, my T-7 is 1.5, and my TSH is 0.8. Its good to know that I am ok thyroid-wise!

I will also keep track of my weight, as I had lost so much during the Intron/Rebetron treatments. I now weigh 125, which is good for being 5'2. Hopefully I won't lose a lot this time.

As of 10/12 I weigh 118. My liver enzymes are skyrocketing for some reason. As soon as I hear from the doctor about this I'll post his reasons...if he has any.

The doctor is going to check my blood every week until the middle of November. I have a strong feeling he will stop the treatment at that time.

My platelets are amazingly low. If I get down to 20, I'm certain the doctor will stop the treatment. He says not to worry about the GGTP being so  high, as many other factors will cause it to go up. It doesn't look as though INFERGEN is the right drug for me at all. My body seems to be rejecting it!

(11/9) - My bloodwork looks AWFUL!! My ferritin is up to 1921. It's no wonder that my iron is so high. My T3 Uptake is also up-19.5. My doctor appt is on the 11th so we will see what he is going to do. We also did a PCR so it will be interesting to see what those results are. My weight is down to 113 now.

(11/17) - Well the doctor removed me from treatment on the 11th. He was too concerned about the white blood cells and platelets. Not to mention the LFT's. We got the PCR back on the 15th and just about fell over from shock. It actually worked! I am undetected! I am now back ON treatment at 15mcg 3 times a week!

(12/20) - Things are looking up!! Aside from the viral load being back, my LFT's are going back down and that is a good sign. Same with the WBC. I have a feeling the doctor will up the dosage again, to see what happens with the viral load. These are the last labs of 1999. I won't do another one until after the first of the year. It's been quite a year, one that I will be happy to say goodbye to!

I started back on 5 days a week on Jan. 2, 2000. The doctor will be watching my labs closely and if they get even a little bit as bad as they did on 7 days...he will cut me back again. I've maintained my weight at 117 now for quite awhile. Hopefully, it will stay that way!

January 20, 2000 was the last labwork I did before stopping treatment on the 24th. My Dr. didn't want to see my WBC go as low as it had before and my body was not tolerating the Infergen. I am now in a holding pattern for awhile. I will continue to post labs here but I think it will only be monthly. We did not do a PCR after stopping this time because I didn't want to know. (Sometimes ignorance IS bliss!!)
