I remember my mother saying, "Jennifer, put down that book!  It's a beautiful day, go outside."  Obedient girl that I was, I went outside--and found a nice shady tree to read under.

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember.  Now, I am trying my hand at writing.

My main love is historical fiction, romantic fiction especially.  Our country has so many stories to be told.  We are full of courageous heroines and dashing heroes!
Canada Flag
  Ah, Canada.
This land has majestic beauty, rugged wilderness, vibrant cities and a wealth of diversity in geography, history and citizenry.

What better place for a writer?

Think about it-books about Royalty and aristocrats, opening the West, modern city life, arctic adventures, coastal living, and high-tech scenarios-all can be set in Canada.  Native culture, French culture, English culture-and just about every other culture in the world can be explored from a Canadian perspective.

So why are there so few books of popular fiction with Canada as their setting?

I will do what I can to change that.
Couple in a heart
"If there is a book you really want
to read but it hasn't been written
yet, then you must write it."

Toni Morrison
I present these "Sketches" in all proper fear and humility, to my Canadian public, hoping that the phases of colonial life they endeavor to portray will be recognized as not altogether unfamiliar. Some of them are true, others have been written through the medium of Fancy, which can find and inhabit as large a field in Canada as elsewhere; for, to my mind, there is no country, no town, no village, as there is no nation, no class of society, nor individual existence, that has not its own deep and peculiar significance, its own unique and personal characteristics that distinguish it from the rest of the world.
