The DAMC Explores the Tivoli Hotel:
Year 2000 and Beyond!

This daytime picture shows what was evidently a supply room, located on the back (north) wall of the Hotel. Important to the DAMC were the windows seen at the left in this photo: they were the main entry access for Joe, John, and others for the after-midnight lurks in the Tivoli during February 2000, and for the DAMC anniversary lurks later that Summer. The photo, from 1997, remains significant in that it is one of the best daylight pics we have left from the "early years".

The lurkers finally reach the roof of the Tivoli, 27 September, 2000. No one in the club had ever got up here since lurking the Tivoli started in 1997. By the Spring of 2001, the Tivoli had been heavily secured; for the time being it appeared this was our last "after-midnight" exploration of this place: Every accessable doorway and window on the first and second floors had been securely boarded up. CAN YOU GUESS HOW THE DAMC GOT BACK IN TO THE TIVOLI FOR OUR SECOND ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION??

Looking down the hall, east, to the side entrance. We are standing near the foot of the grand staircase (there's the Shlitz beer sign again to the right). A storage/electric room is to the right, beneath the staircase, and the shop-looking place to the left was just that, one time home to a Mary Mahoney's eatery. Photographed in 2001, this scene has barely changed over four years.

.

COMPARE THAT with a look down the same corridor, twenty years earlier!! (below, submitted by club member "Ziggy", who actually lived at the Tivoli in the early 1980s)

Take off and go back

Photographed in 2001, this is in the boiler room behind the Tivoli. The evil-looking pipe hanging by the door is the bottom of the chimney, the long tube running all the way up the back of the building. The door up the steps was our access way into the Tivoli on our very first lurk.

OUT OF UNIFORM!! What are these two brightly-dressed lurkers doing on the roof of the rear service wing?? Check out our second annual Fourth-of-July Celebration Lurk to find out!!
