The Mellon Internet Society was started on June 1, 1996, in the village of Durand, WI. An inhabitant, one Frodo Baggins, decided that the whole of Middle-Earth should join together in a society dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien. He enlisted the help of Legolas, and they proceeded to lay the foundation for Mellon. Now, these two adventurers were resourceful, but they still faced hardships. Said Frodo, "The society needs spice. Get me Boromir of Gondor. He has the materials to pep up this society." So together, they journeyed across the Grinding Ice to the remains of Beleriand. From there, they took a swan ship to Dol Amroth, home of Imrahil. They took with them some of Imrahil's finest knights and proceeded on the road to Minas Tirith. While journeyed, they were waylayed by the Corsairs of Umbar. Just when the two adventurers thought they were lost, out of the village of Erech came Aragorn, Gimli, Gandalf, the sons of Elrond, and the hosts of the Dead. The warriors descended on the Corsairs at the port of Pelargir. The hosts of Black Numenoreans, as the Corsairs were called, were slaughtered and driven back to Far Harad, where the Mumakil, or oliphants, were waiting. The host of the Dead pulled back and met up with Frodo and Legolas at Pelargir. The host of the Dead rode back to Erech, while Frodo, Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, and Gandalf rode to the city of Minas Tirith. They arrived there and talked to Boromir. Together, the friends, after picking up Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, and Meriadoc Brandybuck at the Shire, rode to the Mountains of Iron, where Frodo had put the rest of the society's materials. Together, the Nine Walkers finished the foundations of the society at Angband, former residence of Morgoth Bauglir, most hated of the enemies of the Elves and the Valar. When the society was completed, Gandalf, in one of his rare showings of magic, transported the entire society to Rivendell, where it now resides. The Nine Walkers continue to run the society, which has endured to this day.

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
From a verse long known in the lore of Elves:
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
