Tad Thomson is the son of Gordon and Bella Thomson.
mage The family resides on an extensive farm on the outskirts of Solace. Tad has always been unsatisfied with the thought of taking on the responsibilities of the farm from his father, much to said person's disgruntlement. A wide rift has developed between them, as it became apparent to both men that Tad was not as simple as his father. It is not to say that Gordon is a slow man, but rather that Tad has never been satisfied with where he is in life. He has always looked to tomorrow. A special bond has always existed between Tad and his mother. Even though his visits to the farm are dwindling as the years pass, their relationship is still strong. Bella's active imagination lives on in Tad.

Tad would like to think he's the kind of guy who is at home on the razor's edge. To his credit, with respect to the small community of Solace, this statement rings with some truth. However, Tad's blatant disregard for authority would only serve to strengthen a worldly traveler's opinion of his naivety. Tad, like most of the permanent population of Solace, has led a sheltered life.

He has a thirst for knowledge that could almost be described as fanatical in its intensity. It is the driving force in his life. When he was a young boy, he was deeply affected by a conversation that he had with an old man who was passing through Solace selling his wares. Along with a number of fantastic stories of questionable truth, the old man had said, "Remember Tad, the pen is mightier than the sword. Beware of your heart. Unlike your mind, it can betray you. Knowledge; there in lies true power."

Never one to shy away from the experiences of life, Tad's quick wit and quicker tongue have seen him through many potentially explosive situations. One might suspect that he is guilty of speaking first and thinking after, but this is not the case. Tad is quite perceptive, often guessing the best and worst ways to respond to the strangers he encounters. Unfortunate situations arise simply because Tad enjoys the challenge involved in extracting himself from these supposed blunders. In fact, it's a great source of pride for him.

Trust is extremely important to Tad. It must be earned with a great deal of effort and can be lost in the blink of an eye. Beyond his family and a small circle of friends, Tad trusts no one. For him, the world is full of people just like him, trying to make a name for themselves. He has no problem with separating a fool and his money. The constant challenge is what keeps life interesting. He has no intention of playing the fool for someone else's amusement.

This character never made it off the drawing board. My approach to running a campaign is so thorough (some might say meticulous) that a normally considerable task becomes monstrous. Ordinarily, I would delve into such a task with relish, however, with the minimal spare time left to me these days, I no longer have that luxury. Some writing, very little gaming, is the end result. Since writing is solitary and spontaneous, lately, I have found enjoyment in using it fill those spare slices of time that arise during the day. Who knows what the future holds. Maybe Tad will resurface in a work yet to be written. As always, neighbours and guests, please feel free to e-mail me any comments you might have.
