Mike Mitchell
Biography
I was born in Bristol, UK, on 11th August 1965 and grew up in
Cambridge. While at school I became a Christian, and was confirmed in 1981.
Between 1983 and 1986 I studied for a BSc in Biochemistry with Chemistry at
the University of Southampton.
After graduating I worked for the University of Cambridge Exam board and then
moved to Stevenage after beginning to working in London. MSc, at Hatfield. And
if you're interested, according to the Myers-Briggs Type Index I'm an
ENFJ.
In Stevenage I took up my interests in role playing games, specifically the
White Wolf Game Studio
Storyteller games, and Comics. I currently attend St. Nicholas Church, helping to run the
sound system and sit on the PCC (for a fourth year). I helped lead an Alpha Course last autumn, a Youth Alpha Course over the summer, and I am co-leading a second adult Alpha course at present.
Work
Since 1987 I have been working for the
Imperial Cancer Research Fund, a leading
cancer research charity in the UK. For the first 6 years I worked as a
Scientific Officer in a research lab. In 1993 I changed job to supporting the
molecular biology software used by the laboratory scientists. This work
involves introducing new staff to the software, running training courses and
writing documentation.
Interests
Rôle Playing Games
White Wolf Game Studio's live action Masquerade, Apocalypse and Oblivion games
based on their table top games of Vampire, Werewolf and Wraith. Currently I
play a Tremere Vampire, Heironymous Blake, in a Hertfordshire based chronicle.
Chaosium have published a translation of a French game of reincarnating
Hephilim hidden amongst a mundane population.
White Wolf Game Studio's Storyteller games of supernatural creatures in a
world not unlike our own, but with a dark twist.
- HöL - Human Occupied Landfill
Brave starship captains pilot their glistening craft through the wonders
of the universe. Not in this game! A festering dump of a world occupied
by the dregs of the universe, and wastems.
A diceless rôle playing game based on Roger Zelazny's series of
books featuring Corwin and Merlin.
Comics
- Cerebus, by Dave Sim & Gerhard
- Dawn, by Michael J Linser
- Groo, by Sergio Aragonés
- Poison Elves, by Drew Hayes
- Sandman, by Neil Gaiman
Science Fiction / Fantasy
- Babylon 5
- Star Trek
- Terry Pratchett's Diskworld
- X Files
Photography
Not so much a real hobby, just an interest beyond "snaps". I usually end up
taking loads of pictures when I'm on holiday, and some of them turn out better
than I expect.
