"I don't understand. Wormholes, blackholes, cosmic strings, granny paradox? This all sounds like a waste of time." said Millie. After Methos' announcement that he could get her back to her world, they had gone back to the dojo. Here they were several hours later still discussing time travel.
Methos had researched time travel in the library. He explained that what probably happened was that Millie had gone through a wormhole. Some scientists held the belief that wormholes were connectors to other universes.
He handed each of them a paper which read:
"Can you be sure she'll wind up back to her own time and not somewhere else?"
"According to the theories, she would wind up right where the wormhole was in her world. In her time."
"What if I don't want to go?" She whispered.
Both men looked at her eyes wide opened. It was obvious to her they had never even thought she would not want to go back. They stood silent for a moment, each thinking of the consequences of her staying.
"Why would you want to stay?" asked Methos.
Isn't it obvious, you big dope! She thought. "I kind of like it here."
"What about your immortality? Are you ready to be on your own? Having other immortals come for your head?" Methos was losing his patience. This was her only chance to get back and she was thinking of staying. He would not allow her to stay. It was too dangerous for her to be here. "There is no point in talking about this. You have to go back."
"Methos..........." started Duncan.
"Don't Methos me, Duncan. She has to go back."
"I didn't realize I was being that much of a nuisance to you. You are not responsible for me, Methos. I'm a grown woman. With the training both of you have given me, I'll be fine." Millie felt hurt. To think she was here, actually talking with ONH and the ROG. They wanted her gone. They didn't want to risk some k'immie coming after her and killing her. They just wanted her alive and well. But......... "Wait a second. If I am able to go back, how do we know that I'm not dead in that world. You said that my car was totaled. Were my injuries severe enough that if I were mortal I would have died?"
"I thought of that. Nothing in my research turned up anything on that subject. You had the accident after you went through the wormhole. You were still alive up to that point, so there's no reason to think that you are dead in your time."
Millie sighed and leaned back on the sofa. So this is it. She would have to go back. Methos was right. There was no way she could stay here and face immortals coming after her head. "Alright, let's give it a try. I don't think I have the stomach for taking someone's head, anyway. What do we have to do?"
"Duncan, can I ask you a favor?"
"Sure." he said smiling.
"Do you have a camera...the instant kind?" she said sheepishly.
"No, but I can get my hands on one."
"Great."
Methos paced the floor of the dojo. Checking the time again, he frowned. Where were they? They were late. Duncan had told him he was taking Millie out for a couple of hours. Here it was 8 p.m. and they still had not returned. He couldn't wait to get this over and done with. The best thing for her would be to go back...........
"What if I don't want to go?"
...........her words echoed in his ears. He knew she was attracted to him, maybe she even felt something more for him, but it was something that couldn't be.
Why not? She's immortal. There would be no explanations to give as to your bloodied clothes. She even knows you were part of the four horsemen. She knows all about the important events in your life.
"Methos? Are you alright?"
Methos focused in the direction of the voice. They were back. "I'm fine, Millie. Just getting a little worried about you two? Everything ok?"
"Everything's fine. Mac, just took me siteseeing. How about a picture of the two of us? Mac, would you mind?" Without waiting for a reply, she handed Duncan the camera and put her arms around Methos' waist. Duncan quickly took the picture when he noticed his friend's hesitation.
"There you go," he said, handing Millie the developing picture.
"Thanks. Well, I guess this is it. Methos, whenever you're ready we can get started," she said, hoping he would say he had changed his mind.
"Great. We should get going then."
They drove to the same spot where he had found her. The day after the accident, he had her car towed and stored. The engine still worked and they could actually get it to run for a couple of blocks. Hopefully, that was all they would need. In theory, all elements being the same, she could back to her world.
"This is it," she said, "I want to thank both of you for everything. Especially you, Methos."
"Me? Why? I'm sending you back."
"You only want to keep me safe. I understand that." Turning to Duncan she asked, "Duncan, can you give us a minute?"
MacLeod walked towards Methos' car and started it up. Hopefully this was going to work.
"Methos, I hope I didn't make you feel uncomfortable. You've been avoiding me and I just wanted to apologize for anything I might have said or done."
"It's not you, it ‘s me. I'm not very good with words...."
"Well, then don't say anything else. I just want to...kiss you goodbye, if that's alright?"
Methos lowered his head to meet hers. His lips met hers and with his tongue parted her mouth. He tasted the sweetness of her lips and felt her tongue gently probe his mouth. Methos knew he had to break the kiss off, but didn't want to.
"Damn! You are making this more difficult," he hissed. "Go, before I change my mind."
Millie grabbed her bag, which held her journal and the pictures they had taken that afternoon. She had her proof that she had been here. If no one else believed, she knew the truth. Starting the car, she drove two block and then turned the car around. She looked at the clock. Two more minutes. In two more minutes, she would drive full speed. The wormhole would be open and pfffft! just like that, hopefully, she would be back on the road headed towards the convention.
She touched her lips, still feeling the warmth of Methos' kiss. Sighing, she shifted the car and pressed the gas. Rain started falling softly at first, then came down furiously. She could barely see in front of her. Lightening struck in front of her, blinding her. The car was stuck. She could make out what she thought was the wormhole. A fuzzy, dim light ahead of her. What was the window on the thing? A minute, maybe two? She got out of the car and hesitated wondering if she could walk through without any physical damage. Only one way to find out. She walked towards it, bag in hand. It was starting to disappear. She ran towards it, the adrenalin pumping through her body. This was it, this was it! She ran and screamed as she made her way towards it. Lightening struck near her, sending her reeling towards the fading wormhole.
"Well, it's over," said Methos.
"Are you disappointed?" asked Duncan.
"No, I'm not."
"You're not what?" asked Millie, appearing from the bathroom.
"Nothing." said Methos.
Millie eyed them both suspiciously, then shrugged. She was glad she was still in Seacouver. Unfortunately, her journal was lost, so she would have to start a new one. When she had run toward the wormhole, lightening had struck near her. She felt herself falling inside the wormhole, but she must have been mistaken. The wormhole had closed and there stood Methos and Duncan. The only thing she couldn't figure out was where her bag had gone. Fortunately, she had titled the journal, "Time Travel Fantasy", so if it were found, the person would think it was just a story. As for the pictures, well, that could easily be explained. After all, they were just pictures of friends having a good time.
"Millie, are you ready? If you want to get started on fixing up the bathroom we better get to the store to get all the fixtures." Methos grabbed her coat and helped her put it on. "Duncan, we'll meet you at Joe's at about 7 o'clock."
"Sounds good. You two have fun."
"Oh, we will, Duncan, I promise," said Millie.
Downstairs, Methos asked, "What did you mean by that I promise stuff?"
"Well, you did promise to give me a rain check on scrubbing my back, remember? I think it's time you pay up."
"I don't......."
"Don't think, Methos. By the way, before we get to the apartment, I need to pick up some blue frosting."
"Blue frosting? What for?"
"You'll see."
The weekend had been so much fun. Meeting Adrian Paul and the other cast members had been a blast! Celia couldn't wait to get home so she could get on the forum and share the weekend with her forum friends.
Staring at the road ahead, she noticed something in the road. Oh, please, don't let it be a dead animal. As she slowed the car and got nearer, she noticed it was a duffel bag. Celia stopped to the side of the road and checking traffic, she picked up the bag. Opening it, she retrieved the black notebook inside and opened it. The front cover inside pocket held pictures. Flipping through them, her eyes opened and her mouth fell. Pictures of Adrian Paul and one of Peter Wingfield with some woman. Celia frowned and put the pictures back. Skimming through the journal, she stopped on the last entry:
Being immortal is no picnic, but it has been so much fun spending time with Duncan and Methos. Although Methos has been avoiding me, I know he cares.
Gotta go. Mac just walked in. I want to take some pictures before tomorrow.
Celia closed the journal and quickly put it back in the duffel. She let out a low whistle. This was going to make some interesting reading.
Information about wormholes was taken from a site on the net. Unfortunately, I lost the URL for it. But, you can do a search for science + timetravel.
Shhhhh! Back to Library
Back to the Tour!!
