The Mid-Westerner by Foxtail

OK, this is patently strange, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction...

My dorm room window is at least 10 feet off the ground, maybe more like 12. It is, however, right next to the doors into the building, so it is possible (with a enough effort, noise, and time) to climb from a railing by the door, up to a column-like protrusion of the building's stone side, and over to a ledge a few inches wide that runs along the side of the building (under all the windows on that level) Mine is the first window you would come to if you did climb up.

At 2:00 AM (Saturday 5/10), I woke up to the sound of someone outside doing exactly that; I pushed myself up a bit to see over the edge of the bed (which is mounted about 6 feet off the floor, across the room from the window) and saw a guy poking his face at my open window's screen. There were a few others with him on the ground, to whom he seemed to be reporting that he could see no one in the room. (They didn't seem sure if they had the right room.)

Then the guy pulled a hand up and back, and slammed his palm into the screen like he was trying to knock it out to climb in. The screen loosened but did not give way. Before he could hit it again, someone on the ground told him to let him up.

While they were switching and I knew they couldn't see me, I climbed down from the bed. I happen to love swords, and recently got the very first piece for my sword collection (a katana with a white handle-core wrapped in black braiding, with engraved brass hilt, pommel, and little dragon ingots). So I grabbed the sword, took it out of its sheath, and waited by the window.

The next time I saw a shadow at the window screen, I stepped over, leveled the sword, aimed at his throat, and poked the tip through the screen. The next part was rather fun; after he heard the screen getting cut, I got to see the look of shock and fear develop on his face as he looked up at first the protruding tip of the blade, then the rest of the sword behind the screen, then me. (Remember, the room was supposed to be empty; and now I had appeared from nowhere, put my face not two feet from his, and pointed a sword at his throat.) That's when I said "Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you." He jumped. As he fell, he rotated a bit, which made him kick and break the window below (which no one lives behind) and land flat on his back.

One of the guys with him asked "Dude, are you OK?" to which the answer was "I got f---ed up, dude." Then they talked a bit more, which I couldn't discern, and they left.

I decided to leave the sword out on my desk and sleep the rest of the night in my chair, just in case. When I left the room to go to the bathroom, I had the sword ready while opening the door. But there were no more incidents.
