The Dragon Highlords

Ariakas of the Red Dragonarmy

Creed: Power is everything

Ariakas was the son of the Dark Queen's most favorite cleric. At the age of two he watched his father brutally murder his mother for trying to escape with their little son. Ariakas proved to be very intelligent and did well in his studies, even though he had no priestly talent. He killed his father at the age of nineteen and usurped leadership of Takhisis's Ansalon forces. Ariakas took the Test of High Sorcery and won the Black Robes, yet his real interest lay in war. He became the leader of the Dragon Highlords and planned the grand strategy to defeat the divided humans, elves, and dwarves. Ariakas was beginning to style himself "Emperor of Ansalon" when reports came that his forces were being defeated by "the Golden General." True healing had returned and the dragonarmies' use of good dragons' eggs to make draconians had been exposed. Kitiara began to challenge him for leadership. His ultimate doom came at the fateful Council of the Highlords when Raistlin dispelled his Wall of Force and Tanis plunged a sword into his heart.

Even though he was immensely powerful, Ariakas's downfall was his extreme arrogance that nothing could stop him.

Kitiara uth Matar of the Blue Dragonarmy

Creed: Trust only those you control

Kitiara's father was a minor Knight of Solamnia-turned-mercenary general who became the Twins' mother's first husband. He trained Kitiara at a young age how to fight and to use a sword, and he was her idol. One day he went on a campaign and never returned. As soon as she was old enough to travel she joined a mercenary group dressed as a boy. As she was returning to Solace after one campaign she met Tanis and they quickly became lovers. She traveled with Sturm to Solamnia to learn more about their fathers, but the two were an ill-matched team and they had many arguments. Supposedly Kitiara seduced Sturm into breaking his vows of chastity and then she left him. She became pregnant and gave to Steel, whom she gave to Sara Dunstan to raise. Sometime after this she joined the dragonarmies, and through her prowess she became a Dragon Highlord.

Kitiara's task was to conquer Solamnia. She enlisted the aid of Lord Soth and Dargaard Keep became her headquarters. After Verminaard's death, Kitiara learned that her friends were behind the events acting against the dragonarmies. She knew they were a potent force and she kept spies on them. Kitiara and Tanis were reunited in Flotsam and there Tanis discovered her plan to capture the Everman. After hearing about her army's setback at the High Clerist's Tower, she went there herself with her dragons. She killed Sturm but her army was defeated by Laurana. Kit tricked Laurana into an ambush with Lord Soth and the Golden General was captured. In Neraka Kit cut a deal with Tanis: he would help her topple Ariakas, and she would give him Laurana and they could leave together. However, Kit's real plan was to give Laurana to Lord Soth. Her plan crumbled at the death of the Everman, but Kitiara was able to seize the Crown of Power. Kitiara offered Tanis a place at her side, but Tanis refused. Surprisingly, she showed Tanis and Laurana how to escape. Kit herself escaped the carnage at Neraka and regrouped at Sanction.

Kit first eliminated all the remaining Highlords opposing her through Lord Soth. She was pinned in Sanction by the Knights and she was waiting for some opportunity. The opportunity came with Raistlin's plan to open the Portal at the Tower of Palanthas, enter the Abyss, destroy Takhisis and become a god. Whomever won the battle would be able to enter Krynn and if she could be at Palanthas she could ride the coattails to victory. She used flying citadels to bypass the High Clerist's Tower and attacked Palanthas. She entered the Tower but was killed by Dalamar. Lord Soth arrived and carried her body and soul away.

One of the lessons Kitiara learned from her father was that people had to depend on themselves to bring their best out. Later in life she learned to use her power and sexuality to control others.

Salah-Khan of the Green Dragonarmy

Salah-Khan was a desert barbarian belonging to the Khur tribe of the land of Khur. He saw the dragonarmies as an opportunity to advance his tribe over the others and to assure its survival. His daring strategies and his cruel nature won him the admiration of the green dragons.

Salah-Khan's facial features are unknown, because he always kept his face wrapped with cloth. Some speculate that his face was destroyed in a duel with a wizard.

Lucien of the Black Dragonarmy

Lucien became a Highlord mostly through the downfall and deaths of his predecessors who often were not able to handle the fickle nature of black dragons. As Highlord, he was determined not to make the same mistakes, and this gave him a patient outlook on things. However, this also made him overcautious, and often he failed to pursue defeated enemies.

Lucien had a really cool Ogre Irda sword called "Ice Razor" which could shoot a powerful cone of cold.

Feal-Thas of the White Dragonarmy

Feal-Thas was an elf driven out of Silvanesti. He gave important secrets of Silvanesti to the dragonarmies in hopes of gaining power. Because of his treacherous nature, though, he was made Highlord of the weakest dragonarmy, and given responsibility for conquering the only the most desolate (Icewall Glacier) and annoying (Kendermore) lands.

Feal-Thas kept his headquarters in Icewall Castle, and there he guarded a dragon orb and a broken dragonlance. The years of exile away from Silvanesti drove him mad, and in combat he fought other elves to the death. Ultimately he was killed by Laurana when her party came to retrieve the dragon orb.

Other Dragonarmy Officers

Highmaster Verminaard

Creed: Glory in Destruction

The Dark Queen wanted a personal representative in the dragonarmies whose job would be to prevent people discovering the good gods again. She chose Verminaard as her agent. Although he didn't have any military background, he was probably the greatest warrior and charismatic leader in the evil clergy. He was given command of a detachment of the Red Dragonarmy called the Red Wing, but he acted independently of the Highlords for the most part

Verminaard took the news of the discovery of the blue crystal staff seriously, almost in a paranoid way. He set his headquarters in the abandoned fortress of Pax Tharkas; his task was to conquer Abanasinia and find the staff. He initially appeared willing to deal with the humans as long as he could destroy the elves, but his nature as a bully took precedence over any military practicality he may had. He razed the human cities even before he even attacked Qualinesti and enslaved their inhabitants at Pax Tharkas. The Heroes kept the staff from him, though, and they infiltrated Pax Tharkas and released the slaves. Verminaard confronted the Heroes and subdued Raistlin and Caramon using his unholy power. He was about to kill Sturm when Goldmoon intervened. She countered his evil spells and Tanis and Sturm managed to slay the evil priest.

Highmaster Bakaris

Bakaris always had a problem controlling his temper, and this led to his downfall in the War of the Lance. He came from the lands of Estwilde and got in trouble after killing his friend over a woman. He enlisted in the Blue Dragonarmy to avoid the repercussions of his misdeed, and his daring nature and handsome face garnered him many promotions from Highlord Kitiara. Like many other of her generals, Bakaris was completely seduced by her beauty and ruthlessness. He was given command of the ground-based section of the Blue Dragonarmy in its assault against the High Clerist's Tower, and this is where he first met the Heroes. He failed to take the fortress, not before being severely wounded in the arm by Laurana. Kitiara relieved him of his command and had him ride dragonback. He was captured when the Whitestone armies retook the Solamnic plains. Kitiara offered to exchange Tanis for Bakaris, and when Laurana came to the meeting place she was assaulted by a wyvern and Bakaris grabbed her. Instead of escaping, which would've been the smartest thing to do, he intended to rape her as revenge for his humiliation at her hands. Before he could do anything, though, Tasslehoff killed him.

Fewmaster Toede

Creed: Toede comes first

Toede was presented as the big-time comic villain. He got promoted every time the Heroes killed his bosses. Toede was born a hobgoblin, and his mother was the tribe's cook. As a young whelp created a lot of trouble and blamed it all on his mother. As Toede was a natural leader of goblins, Verminaard made him Fewmaster of his goblin forces. Toede had many opportunities to capture both the Blue Crystal Staff, the Heroes, and the Green Gemstone Man, but he failed miserably at all attempts. After Verminaard's death, Toede was promoted to Highmaster and given command of the Red Wing. Toede conquered the neutral city of Tarsis in an utterly wasteful manner, using his entire army and destroying any resources his army could've used. When Laurana killed Feal-thas, Toede was made Highlord of the White Dragonarmy and was given the task of subduing Kendermore. Unfortunately, he was killed by Kronin Thistleknott and his army was routed due to his complete incompetence and cowardice.
