You Weren’t There

Disclaimer: Rogue and Gambit belong to Marvel but the poetry is all mine.

Scenario - Rogue Soliloquy -What Rogue does one night while Gambit is out on the town.

K-Nice 1999

I kissed you--all of you--
Even the soles of your feet.
I enjoyed you, my tongue seeking your flesh.
But you weren’t there.
I picked the lock--you showed me how--
Walked in, straight from a shower.
In your absence, I touched you.
I left lipstick stains on your collars.
There are teeth marks were I bit your zippers.
My perfume is on your pillowcase.
But you’re not home.
As long as you don’t touch me
I can lie naked on your sheets,
My toes curling on your covers.

Until you come home
And I sneak out the window.
My kiss is on the wind
And my breeze is blowing by you.
I hover in the midnight shadows
As you examine your bed
With confusion in your eyes.
But you weren’t here, so
We made love in my mind.
But now you’re back, your back
Covered in another woman’s scratches.
I wish the tears in my eyes were
Drops of sweat on my brow
But you weren’t here.
