Life History of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Roghair, Sr.

Mr. Evert Jan Roghair was born in Barnsveld, Netherlands on March 22, 1856. On August 15, 1868, he left the Netherlands with his father and sister. They arrived in Pella, Iowa on September 2, 1868. They left Pella again on March 12, 1874 and moved to Orange City where they arrived on March 26, 1874.

Heintje Van de Hoef was born in Pella, Iowa, on January 2, 1872. She came to Orange City in the year 1881.

On January 3, 1888, Mr. Evert Jan Roghair and Miss Heintje Van de Hoef were united in Holy Matrimony at Newkerk, Iowa by Reverend W. K. Wyland.

They began farming on a farm four miles west of Orange City where they lived until December 15, 1895, when they moved to Monrovia, California, on account of Henry's Health. Here they lived for four years. On August 27, 1899, they again returned to Orange City and resumed farming on the same farm. Here they lived until February 26, 1927 when they retired and moved to Orange City where they lived until their death.
