Babylon 5 is a science fiction television series, set in the mid 23rd Century, which takes mainly place on a five-mile-long space station (called Babylon 5), centrally located near Earth and four other alien alliances. The station was built as a sign of peace and help to preserve peace in the galaxy. Each of the alien alliances has an official representative on Babylon 5.
The original Babylon 5 was planned as a miniseries but over the years Babylon 5 growed into a more bigger thing. It tells a overall story and hints are dropped of the coming of the great war.
The series is ending its third season in the whole world, season four is right now running in the USA and season five is uncertain (rumors are that there is no season 5).
THE STORY
Babylon 5, a space station orbiting a barren planet in neutral territory, is the crossroad between several civilizations, including the Earth Alliance, represented by Captain John Sheridan (season 1: Commander Jeffrey Sinclair and season 4 : Commander Susan Ivanova), who is in charge of Babylon 5.
There are 6 major races in the serie:
Earth Alliance
Minbari Federation
Centauri Republic
Narn Regime
Vorlon Empire
and the mysterious race of the shadows
The Minbari Federation is represented by Ambassador Delenn. The Minbari waged a war with the Earth Alliance 10 years earlier and mysteriously surrendered on the brink of victory. The Minbari are organized and split into 3 castes: The warrior caste, the religious caste and the working caste. Each of these castes has its own function and together they are the Minbari Federation. The leading hand is (later the council doesnt exist anymore) the grey council.
The Centauri Republic is represented by Ambassador Londo Mollari. The Centauri Republic was the first to make contact with Earth and helped advance their technology. They are really on the decline, but Londo has great dreams of bringing back the empire's glory days(sometimes he maybe emperor).
The Narn Regime is represented by Ambassador G'Kar. The Narns were previously under the control of the Centauri Republic but have recently gained their independence and built up their influence. The Narns are supporting Babylon 5 later in the serie and will be a great part of the coming.
The Vorlon Empire is represented by Ambassador Kosh Naranek. The Vorlons are a race in a shrouded mystery and have avoided any contact with the other alliances exept Babylon 5. Kosh has been never seen outside of his environment suit. Later the Vorlons show their true appearance.
The Shadows are a mysterios race that lurks in the shadows and waits for the day to appear and lay wrath upon the other races....they did and are doomed for (as season 3 ends)
