MYSELF
Now Playing: Mmmm (Stone Temple Pilots)
Singapore is a tropical island in South-East-Asia. We
experience nothing but summer throughout the season
(maybe it's more appropriate to call it a year instead).
North of us is Malaysia, east is Philippines, south is
Indonesia and west is still Indonesia. As we have a
small landscape, flats were a more popular choice, as
a home, among the average income earners. I'm living
in one of them too.
My favourite sports are basketball, soccer, badminton,
table tennis, etc.
I'd been playing basketball since 10 in Primary school.
Since then, I've grown for a liking for it and even
joined the school team when I'm 11. Though I was not
good at it, the coach put me as a substituting center
due to my height. If I didn't remembered wrongly,
I was around 1.65m (5'5) at that time. We've won a
second place in the zone competition but lost while
in the inter-zone championship. When I went to
Secondary school, after PSLE (Primary School Leaving
Examinations) where I took it when I was 12, my ECA
(Extra-Curricular Activity) was still basketball. I
played for the rest of my four year study in the school
and have got to know quite a lot of friends.
Unfortunately, we've lost contact since I graduated
from Secondary school and obtained my 'O' levels
(Ordinary Level) certificate. Ever since I'd reached
Polytechnic, I seldom play in the compound mainly because
the outfit, I'm wearing, is too uncomfortable and a
hindrance for my movement and running. Maybe you can
say that's an excuse because I actually don't quite dare
challenge the opponents in the court. Due to the fact
that I'm lanky built, they're sometimes big and tall
which is rather scary (for me though) when they drive in.
The thought of it makes me "shiver". Hahaha,
I sometimes think whether I'm a coward or something.
After been in poly life, then
did I realized how huge this world can be. There are so
many strong opponents around and I'm sure there're much
stronger ones that I have not yet met. Ahhhhh ! Can't
imagine those NBA players !!! They're tall, build and yet
they're so damn agile !!! Wonder what they did during
training. Sad to say that I still can't dunk. Though
I'd always dreamt of the feeling when dunking, my
self-motivation is not pushing me to anything futile up
till now. The sight of seeing others dunking (especially
those right in front of their enemies) is such a great
pleasure, so I can't imagine how he, himself, would feel.
It's must have been like in heaven !!!
As for soccer, I played it since I was a little kid.
My dad would play with me then but not now. He seldom
exercise nowadays. I still remembering my early childhood
days when I'm playing soccer in the field with my friends
during PE (Physical Education) lessons. We would simply
run like mad just to have a kick at the ball. Sometimes,
we would even get into trivia fights just because someone
kicked on some other person's leg accidentally. It's real
fun (definitely not referring to the fight) !!! During the
game, some of us would kick the ball at someone he dislikes.
The thought of it makes me laugh right now. It's totally
different from those professional players where their aim
is to score goals. I'd always wanted to be the goalkeeper
(because I don't have stamina) whenever I played but I
wasn't good and, needless to say, let in unnecessary goals
to the opposite team. Therefore, my friends always wanted
to change positions with me. That was when I'm in Primary
school days. In Secondary schools, we started to play
street soccer. The place we played in was actually a
basketball court. We treated the basketball pole as the
goal-post. Since it was narrow, no keepers are allowed and
we usually have a last man standing at the last line of
defense. Can you imagine the fate this guy is going to
face when someone shoots, or worse, volleys, the ball
towards the goal-post ??? Damn it !! It's utter pain and
nothing else. If one is lucky, he could use his buttocks
or back to block the shoot, but what if it hits the
face ??? Ugh !!! Can you imagine ?? Don't know whether I'm
stupid or what but I'm usually the last man formy team
that's why I understand the feelings of them. But some of
them are real cool and sharp and during those shots, they
managed to head it out. I really admire their courage.
That's why I don't like to take power shots
(though I can't). Instead I tried the lob when the last
man is out of position. If not, I'll try to pass the ball
or test my luck on dribbling in. Playing in the field is
not my type because I've got no boots and stamina. Even if
I play, I'll try to be defender but I simply can't find
myself fitting into the name. Maybe the strikers are too
strong (excuses).
Badminton had been one of my favourite sport in my Primary
school days. I had it as my first ECA when I'm 9 years old.
That's when I have a decent looking racket. It's a Do-Sport.
I used it for about 4 to 5 years before parting it to my
God-sister. On my 14th birthday, my Aunt got me a Yonex
Carbonex 8. It's much lighter compared to my previous one.
This Yonex is still with and I'd not use it for
approximately 2 years (hope my Aunt isn't reading this).
Occasionally, I still catch a match on TV or should I say
a set only. Those drop shots and smash are fantastic !!
It's even enlightening to see if his opponent was able
to save the smash or drop shot.
Table-tennis was taught by my brother. His, somewhat, a good
player because I always lose to him. I'd always wanted to
serve curly balls and my brother would scold me for making
him to pick for it after I served. Haha. That's why we
seldom play now. Actually that's not the real reason.
You see, as I lived in a flat and the table-tennis table is
at the void deck. But the problem arises when the day is
a windy one. The wind will blow away the ball or, at least,
swerves the ball to a side. Besides that, the table is
such a old and battered one. Sometimes the ball will bounce
lower if it hits a hollowed surface. It's quite sick to have
these factors around and, gradually, we stopped playing.
