The rain came down in torrents as Dana Scully walked out of the J. Edgar Hoover FBI building. She was tired and all she wanted to Do was to go home and take a nice, long, hot bubble bath and listen to some mood music. Her partner had come up with another Insane theory, which he seemed so good at doing, so a week ago, they had been off to Jersey to investigate some apparent 'sightings'. Of course the case had been bogus as she had expected but she had to spend all day typing up a report, complete with expenses. $25 for sunflower seeds was the bulk of that, although how he had consumed that many or how he got the bureau to pay for them was beyond her.
When Scully finally reached her car she was soaking, and that only added to her irritation. She fought to get the door open, her hands shaking from the chill of the November DC weather. After her struggle ended, she slipped in the car quickly and turned on the heat. She was about to put the keys in the ignition when she spied a note sitting on her dashboard.
It was in printed capitol letters and only stated a time and a location. '11:00 PM, EAST BANK BOAT HOUSE' She looked at it, considering what to do...

It only took her a second to decide. She picked up her cell-phone that was sitting on the dashboard and dialed speed dial one. "Mulder," her partners voice on the other end of the phone answered.
"Hey Mulder, it's me," she replied. "Listen, I just found something weird I know you'll be interested in."
"What is it," he asked enthusiastically, his curiosity piqued.
"Well, it's a note. I found it when I got in my car. All it says is '11:00 PM, East Bank Boat House."
"Interesting," he mused, partly to himself.
"I thought you'd say that. However, I don't share your excitement about these types of things. 9 times out of 10 when we receive a Message like this, it turns out to be some psycho who wants us to help him or her 'tell the world' about their experience when they were abducted by Aliens. So I was wondering if you'd like to deal with it, while I go home and have a nice long bath."
"Ah, so I get it. You want me to do your job for you and you get the glory when it turns out to be a real tip from someone, about an evil plot to destroy the world?" He paused. "Sure, I'd be happy to."
"Thanks Mulder, I owe you one." She rang off and started the ignition.
Just meters away, a man sat in his car, watching the attractive redhead. He'd heard her entire conversation she'd just had with her partner. 'Perfect,' he thought, 'they took the bait.'
Waiting a good 15 seconds after Scully pulled her car out into traffic, he followed...

Scully arrived at her home pretty late, she hated that. As soon as she was in the door her shoes were off and so was her coat. She went to her answering machine it had two new ones, one from her mother and one from Mulder, who else? They weren't important and she did not feel like talking to either one of them right then so she ignored the phone and went strait for the bathroom.
She had started to undress when she heard a noise coming from outside the bathroom door. She put back on what little clothing she had taken off and kicked herself for leaving her gun in her coat at the front door. She did have her cell phone though, she tried to call Mulder but there was no answer, at that point she knew something was wrong. Mulder always had his phone on. What if that secret meeting was a dangerous one? What if Mulder was in trouble? What if he was hurt? A panic like never before ran through her body and only another sound from outside the door distracted her attention from it.
Then like a blast filled with tons of might and force the bathroom door opened to show a man, someone Scully had never seen before, someone she never would have wanted to see. He lifted up his hand and said something that sent chills down every part of her body...

Roseh20

"He's dead." Scully froze. Oh my God. He couldn't be talking about Mulder, could he? "Who's dead?" She managed to get out. The man just looked at her. "He's not..."She couldn't finish. "Your partner met with an unfortunate.... accident. Of course, any evidence of wrong doing has been covered up." Scully stared at him. This was just some cruel hoax. It had to be...

QueenFragg

Scully stared up at him, her eyes almost filled with tears. She did not know weather to believe him or not. "What the hell are you talking about? Mulder's not dead, he can't be!" The man looked at her, his face almost showed no emotion "You should not have given that meeting to him, it was not meant for him Scully, it was meant for you".
Scully knew that this man was lying about Mulder, even though she had no proof she knew in her heart that Mulder was still alive, This man in front of her was lying, but she could not understand why, did Mulder or someone else send him here to make her Believe Mulder was dead. If yes why? and what was this man talking about "the meeting was meant for her". "I...I don't understand... GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!"
The man looked surprised "such fury you have in you Scully, but I don't think it will do you much good" He raised his hand, in it was a needle. She knew right away what he was planning, not a murder, but he wanted to take her, where she did not know. "She went for some scissors that were on her bathroom sink but did not make it in time. She felt the needle go right into her back, a pain like no other. She was surprised at what pain such a small thing could give. Then she started to feel dizzy and lightheaded, she fell back into the mans arms too weak to try to escape. "Nighty Night" was the last thing she heard before she closed her eyes and fell into darkness.

Roseh20

When Scully came to, she couldn't see. It wasn't that she had lost her sight, but the place where she was so incredibly dark that she couldn't even see her hand in front of her face. The place was cold. She checked quickly to see if she was in any pain. Other than a dull numbing sensation in her lower back, she felt fine. Although a little groggy. She soon realized that both her hands and her feet were bound. But she wasn't gagged. Her mind, although tired, worked quickly and she figured that if whoever it was that had her wasn't worried about her calling for help, wherever she was must be soundproof. Her back was propped up against a cold wall and her butt ached from sitting in the same place for she didn't know how long.
Then she remembered the encounter with the strange man in her bathroom and remembered what he had said about Mulder. Tears burned her eyes. "Oh God..." she mumbled to herself quietly, "Mulder..." *NO!* She thought firmly, *He's not dead! There's no way he can't be dead. I'd know it if he were. There's no reason why I should believe the man who kidnapped me! He's lying...I won't believe it until I see it for myself...* Scully pulled herself together as much as she could and began to work on the binds on her hands. It seemed like they were taped together. She tried to tear the tape with her teeth, but there were too many layers, and she wasn't getting anywhere. She reached down to her ankles with her bound hands and tried working with the tape there, but once again, to no effect.
By now her eyes were adjusting a bit to the heavy darkness and she realized that she was in a rather empty room. She didn't see any outlines of any kind of furniture whatsoever.
Suddenly the thick silence was broken by the sound of a slight motion on the other side of the room and she nearly jumped out of her skin with fright. Then she calmed a bit and tried to focus her eyes in on the area where the sound had come from. It moved again and she could see there was a form on the other side of the room. It appeared to be a human form that was curled up on the floor. Then the dark form groaned and Scully felt her pulse quicken...
She'd know that groan anywhere...

Rachel

It was Mulder. Hands and feet tied up; she inched her way towards the corner of the room, where Mulder lay curled up in a tight ball. "Oh, Mulder..." she said when she saw him. He was bleeding from a cut on his forehead. He'd taken a hard blow to the head. And his lip was cut too. She touched his wound gently and quickly checked him for other injuries. Everything else seemed fine, except he was freezing cold. Carefully, Scully gathered him into her arms and held him close(think 'Detour'). "It's going to be okay," she said, though she wasn't sure if he could hear her, and she was saying more to herself than to him. She tenderly rocked him and soon his body began to feel warm again. Finally, he came to and looked up at her, his brow creased in Confusion. "Hey. How are you feeling?" Scully asked. He continued to stare at her blankly. "Mulder, it's me... Scully" she said suddenly worried. "Do you remember?" He stared at her for a while and finally opened his mouth to say something. His voice was low and raspy. "Who... who are you?"

Julie Fox

Scully did not think this was fair, all the fear and pain that she had felt when she thought Mulder might be dead how it was all gone the minute she heard his moan and then how it all came right back when she heard those three small words, who are you?
"Mulder, it is me, Scully, your friend. Do you remember anything?" Mulder just kept on looking at her, no expressions on his face. "No, no I don't remember...anything...what's going on?.....Who are you?.... Who am I? " Scully felt a rush a fear and she knew that her partner was feeling the same way. She felt almost a pit of anger that Mulder did not know who she was, but it fated when she realized it was not his fault.
"Your name is Fox Mulder, I am Dana Scully, your friend and partner" Mulder looked at her with a sight of amazement. "You are my partner, my wife?" Scully felt a feeling like she had never experienced before. she had never really heard Mulder say something like that about her the words stuck her in a way she had never thought two words every could, but she liked the feeling. "No, not your partner in life, your partner, for the FBI"
Just then they were both interrupted, a door on the other side of the room was burst open and the light had blinded both Mulder and Scully for a few seconds but when they could see again, they were not surprised who they saw...

Roseh20

"Hello, G-Woman!" the figure said, in mock joy. "Oh my god!" gasped Scully, looking into the face of Robert Modell. "But you're....you're dead!!!" "Not anymore," he said in that sickening molasses-coated voice. "You see, I was actually one of triplets, not just twins. When I 'died', my brother Garrison came to the morgue and talked me into living again. This wasn't what I planned. I wanted an honorable death, but he ruined that....so I killed him." "You're sick!" Scully spat, turning her face to Mulder's clue less one. "What did you do to him?" "Oh, don't worry about him, I've taken care of his memory for now. I couldn't let him help you, now could I?" "Who was that man in my house?" she asked, struggling to keep herself together. "Just a mental disguise of mine. You would have known how to negate my powers, you did that quite well before." Modell took something out of his pocket. Something shiny, metallic. "I suppose you're wondering what this is about, so I'll cut the crap," he brought the object into the light given by a small hole in the roof so Scully could see it. "You skipped your turn when we were playing our little game of 'Russian Roulette.' You know better than to break the rules, don't you, G-Woman?" And at that, he aimed the barrel of the gun at Scully's head. "NO!!!!" Scully screamed.

Agent6436

Time seemed to slow down as she watched the bullet leave the gun and head for her. She was paralyzed, she couldn't do anything to protect herself. She took a last glance at Mulder's shocked expression and turned back to face Modell. Just as the bullet was about to hit her she felt a large form knock her down. she heard the bullet hit the wall harmlessly behind her and looked up at Mulders face. He looked just as confused as she was but he had been able to make movements to save her life when all she could do is sit and stare. Mulder moved away from her and she looked to Modell. He laughed, his annoying sound filling the room. "Well it looks like your partner saved you again, G-woman. But we'll just see how he saves you next time." He laughed again and left the room, leaving Scully to wonder what and when 'next time' would be. Then her thoughts returned to Mulder. She looked in his direction and found him watching her. "Mulder...why'd you do that?

J MeLee

I...I'm not sure..." Mulder stammered "It just happened, I don't even remember really thinking about it..."
Scully just stared at him. He looked so lost and confused. Scully had seen him look that way dozens of times before, but this time it was different. As always, her heart went out to him. She didn't quite know what to say. "Well...thank you..." she offered but cringed at how painfully inappropriate it sounded in response to the magnitude of what he had just done for her. She blushed, "Actually Mulder, I don't quite know how to thank you...you saved my life, again."
"Again? I've done it before?"
Scully couldn't help but laugh, "All the time," she said, "that's probably why you didn't even have to think about it."
They fell silent for a few minutes just looking at each other. It was still dark, though, so they couldn't read each other's expressions. Then Mulder broke the silence...
He cleared his throat, "Well, uh, if you really want to find some way to thank me...I could probably think of a couple things..." he caught himself, and when he spoke again he sounded embarrassed, "Oh God, I'm sorry, I don't know why I said that..."
The comment had caught her off guard, as his flirtatious comments usually did. But then she realized just how "Mulder-like" it was and it made her feel better. Scully smiled even though she knew he couldn't really see her, "Actually Mulder, I found that comment surprisingly reassuring. Perhaps the real you is closer than you think..."

Rachel

"Achem," grunted Mulder uncomfortably. "Er...Let's see what we can do about this duct tape..." He said as he started to struggle with the tape on Scully's wrists. No use. Then Scully, in a stroke of genius, took off her crucifix with a certain degree of difficulty, and handed it to Mulder. "Tada!" she said, wearing a knowing smile. After working the cross on the binds, they finally came off, leaving red marks on their hands where they used to be.
"Oh, Mulder, I could kiss you for that!" Scully exclaimed as the irritating tape was removed from her wrists."

"Can I quote you on that?" asked Mulder.

Agent 6453

Scully grinned at him. "Sure you can quote me. Just remind me of that when we get out of this." Now he definately looked surprised. "OK, sure." Once more serious, he looked at her. "The question is, how do we get out of this?" "Mulder, I think you may be starting to remember again." "Really?" "Yes. That is a very FBI thing to say. Now lets see...." She started to run her hands over the walls, looking in the dark for some kind of exit. There had to be a door where Modell came from, but Mulder had disoriented her when he knocked her down, and she couldn't find it. Mulder had caught on, and was now doing the same thing. Then, Scully felt it. A thin crack that could be a door....

QueenFragg

Yes! It was a door. Now they would be able to escape. "Mulder? I found a something." He walked towards were her voice came from and accidently bumped into her. "Sorry.." he mumbled "It's locked" she informed him. "Well, step back then" he replied. There was a loud noise as Mulder raised his leg in the air and kicked the door in. It flung open to reveal a dark hallway. Not the same door Modell had used, Scully realized. Suddenly they heard someone approaching the first door on the other side of the dark room. "C'mon, Mulder" she said grabbing his hand and pulling him into the dark hallway. They ran hand in hand through a maze of halls. Behind them, they heard Modell yell in anger. Soon they found another door. Lucky for them this one was unlocked and they opened it and raced out side. The moon was shining bright in the night sky. They stared out at the thick forest before them. Modell was catching up... they ran as fast as they could into the dense forest without looking behind them. Minutes later Mulder stops to catch his breath and collapses on the ground in exhaustion. Suddenly he realizes that he's alone. *Oh, no. Where is she???* he thinks in terror. Amazingly he's still clutching her crucifix in his hand. He wants to call for her but he can't remember her name. In frustration he begins to sob softly as he curls up in a tight ball. It's freezing...

Julie Fox

Scully had tripped on a root a little ways back and had twisted her ankle. It took her only a moment to get back on her feet and she began to limp in the direction that Mulder had disappeared. Her pace was slow, but she finally found Mulder curled up in a ball on the ground. He was conscious, but it looked like he was in shock.
"Mulder! Come on, get up! We have to get out of here!"
"Where did you go?" Mulder asked through chattering teeth.
"I tripped and I think I twisted my ankle. But we'll have to worry about that later. Right now we just have to get out of here! Come on, help me..." Scully said as she tried to pull Mulder to his feet.
Mulder was shivering like crazy, but somehow they managed to get him to his feet. Scully wrapped her arm around his waist and Mulder wrapped his arm around her shoulders and together they trugged ahead through the dark forrest. They could hear shouting behind them, but it sounded like Modell had lost track of them in the dense forest. That would buy them a little time, at least. Scully realized that their best bet was to find a good hiding place somewhere in the Forrest and just try to keep a low profile until morning when they could find their way out better. They continued to walk as fast as they could ahead, but nothing looked promising.
After a couple minutes Scully thought she saw what looked like a large hill looming up ahead of them. Scully pointed Mulder in the direction of the hill. When they finally got there, they walked along the side of it until Scully found what she had been hoping to find...a cave. The opening was small and low, but both of them would be able to fit inside easily. And hopefully, with any luck, Modell wouldn't find this convenient hiding place.
"There Mulder! Duck into this cave here..."
"Are you sure? How do you know there isn't something already living in there?"
"Believe me, Mulder, whatever could possibly be in there cannot *possibly* be any more dangerous than what's chasing us right now..."
Mulder didn't seem to believe that, but he crouched down and ducked into the cave anyway. Scully followed him.
"Just be quiet for a few minutes. Hopefully Modell will give up his search and assume we've gotten away." Scully whispered.
Mulder just nodded. They sat still and in silence for what must have been a good 10-15 minutes. Finally, it seemed like things had quieted down outside. Scully released a breathe that she hadn't realized she had been holding.
"Ok, I think he's stopped looking, for now anyways." It was dark, but Scully could tell that Mulder was shivering pretty bad. "Mulder, you're in shock, we have to see if we can light a fire somehow..."
Scully began to slowly explore the small cave by crawling around on her hands and knees. The cave had a low ceiling, but it seemed to be rather deep. She managed to move Mulder as deep into the cave as she could hoping that it would be warmer back there. Then she blindly tried to look for any kind of wood she could. Just by feeling around, she managed to round up a good batch of twigs, many of them fairly thick. She arranged the twigs in some sort of pile. Then came the tricky part...she never seemed to have matches in these tight situations. She checked her pockets...nothing.
"Uh, Mulder? You wouldn't happen to have any matches on you, would you?"
"How the hell should I know? Here, let me check..." Mulder checked in all his pockets and pulled a book of matches out of the side pocket of the black leather jacket that he was wearing. "Well, what d'ya know? Do I smoke?"
Scully grinned inwardly, "No you don't. In fact I can't think of one good reason why you should have matches, but now is not the time to worry about that..."
Scully took the matches and after a few tries started a little flame in the pile of twigs.
"Get over here, Mulder. This isn't going to last very long and you need to absorb as much heat as you can."
With much effort, Mulder scooted himself over to where Scully was sitting next to the fire. Once he was there, he looked over at her about to voice some form of gratitude for everything she had done for him so far and then he stopped...the small flame was shining a dim light on her face and for the first time, he really got a good look at her. He couldn't speak for a moment, then he got strange smirk on his face and said, "You're -my- partner?"
"Yeah..." Scully said awkwardly, not quite sure what to make of the look on Mulder's face.
He continued to smirk at her, "You're cute. What did you say your name was?"

Rachel

Scully blushes and looks down at her lap, a huge grin on her face. "Scully. Dana, Scully" she looks up at Mulder but his expression is blank. "Your sister... Samantha. Do you remember her?" He shakes his head. "Keep talking, Scully. Maybe I'll remember something" She sighs. "I can't think of anything that might be more important to you than Samantha" "Just keep talking..." he says as he rests his head on her shoulder. "Okay... We work for the FBI. The X-Files... we chase aliens, UFOs and other weird unexplained, paranormal things. You'd say I'm the most skeptical person in the world, while you believe every light in the sky is a UFO... Anything coming back yet?" He chuckles. "No, but it's an interesting story" he takes his head of her shoulder so he can look at her beautiful face. *God, she's so beautiful... Maybe I should ask her if she's sure we're -just- partners* he thinks. "It's our life, Mulder. Our Quest" she says. Suddenly he remembers he has her crucifix in his pocket. "Oh... here" he says pulling it out of his pocket. "I was holding on to this for you... again." he adds. Scully stares at him for a minute. "You lose this a lot, don't you?" he asks her. "Yeah... I guess so. You remembered that?" "Uh-huh" he replies staring at the little cross in his hand. Scully reaches for it, but he pulls his hand away, a huge smile on his face. "I wanna put it on you" he explains. "Oh... okay" Scully replies turning around. He places the cross around her neck and brushes some of her hair off the back of her neck to fasten the necklace. And then he sees it. The small, white scare on the nape of her neck. And suddenly bits and pieces of an abduction, cancer, and months and months of blaming himself flood back to him. An instant later, a strong wind rushes into the cave and the fire flickers and dies out.....

Julie Fox

"Oh no! The fire!" Scully exclaimed.
"It's all right. I'm not quite as cold as I was before..." Mulder said. A chill went down Scully's spine when he said that. There was something in his voice...something, new.
Scully cleared her throat, "Well, actually, I started to think about the smoke and I realized that maybe a fire wasn't the best idea. See, the cave's so small, if it got too smoky, we might suffocate if we fell asleep while it was still going. Also, if it created enough smoke, it might show outside the cave and give Modell a hint as to where we are..." Scully was just rambling at this point. Mulder's new behavior was making her nervous. "Did you, um, get the necklace on?"
"Yeah, just before the fire went out. Scully, I think I remembered something. That mark on the back of your neck, something was put in there, right?"
"Yes! The implant! Do you remember that?"
"Sort of. You were taken, they put that in you and then you got sick. Is that right?"
Scully was quiet for a second. "Yes, it is. This is good, it sounds like you're remembering."
"That wasn't a very good memory...I remember feeling completely responsible for what happened to you."
"Well, I told you before that I don't blame you for any of that, do you remember that?"
"No."
Scully paused for a second, had she ever really told him that? She had thought it many times, but she didn't think she'd ever gotten around to actually saying the words to him. "Well, I never have...blamed you, I mean."
It became quiet again. Mulder hated the fact that he couldn't see her anymore.
"Well, we should probably try to get some sleep..." Scully said to break the silence.
Mulder cleared his throat, "Yeah, you're right. It's funny, I hadn't realized how tired I was until you mentioned sleep!" he said nervously.
"Here, lay down. We should probably stay close so that we can share as much body heat as we can. It feels like it's going to be a cold night..."
*No problem* Mulder thought to himself. "Sure, whatever you say." He said as he lay down on the ground. There were tons of tiny stones and sticks all over the place and Mulder shifted around uncomfortably trying to clear away as many sharp things as he could.
Then Scully laid down facing him...close. Mulder froze. He gulped and forgot all about the tiny stone that was digging into his hip...

Rachel

Scully laid there, looking at him, her eyes were adjusting to the dark and it gave her an imprint of his face. She thought it was funny, she had seen Mulder countless times but she never felt the way she did right then while she was watching him. "Mulder" She said quietly "What are you thinking?" Mulder was surprised, he had not fallen asleep, how could he all he could think about was this beautiful women lying down next to him. He wondered if he ever felt this way about her before. "Mulder" Scully said again waiting for his answer. "I don't know, Scully" Mulder started "I am thinking about a lot of things". Scully did not quite understand, for some reason she wanted to know, she had to know. She almost felt silly for making such a big deal about it. "Mulder, what are a lot of things?" she said "Well, I am thinking about who you are, who I am, and if we...." Mulder felt a big fear in his stomach, he did not mean to say that. Scully was interested now, though. "And if we what" she said "Nothing" Mulder tried to end the conversation right there but Scully would not let him, not now. "Mulder, you have to tell me!" She said with a smile on her face, even though she knew he could not see it. "Well I was wondering if we....you and me....if you and I were......."

Roseh20

"If we were what, Mulder?" "I was thinking, and wondering what I had thought about you, before, and if I ever thought about you like I do, now," Mulder told her nervously. Scully was quiet for a few minutes, thinking about what he had said. "And how is that?" "Uh...,"he cleared his throat," I mean...if I ever had...unprofessional thoughts about...you, our relationship..." She could tell by his voice that this was making him extremely uncomfortable. Normally, she would have enjoyed being able to make Mulder uncomfortable, but not right now. "Well I sure hope so, Mulder. I wouldn't want to have been the only one."
