It all began with a banjo and a dream. Well... not REALLY a banjo, it was a figurative banjo... OK! Ok, forget the damn banjo. It all started with a dream and a cup of coffee. Well, more like a cup of Pepsi and a Nightmare, but by now I'm sure you get the idea.
After the failure of their first attempt at filmmaking, Red Right Hand, Roy Ayres and Matthew Blanchard decided that they should try again. But this time, it wouldn't be as serious an endeavor as it was before. And much like that first attempt, it was decided that friends would be utilized for the cast.
Blanchard took on the role of Producer, and without a finished script was able to organize a cast that would bring Writer/Director Ayres' horrific (though highly caffeinated) vision to light. Haddonfield Productions mainstays like: David Marroni, Patricia Danos, Kevin Murphy, and the irrepressable Peter Ciba were included in the production as both cast and crew. But perhaps the greatest acting accolades would go to the Writer/Director and his Assistant Director. Blanchard and Ayres both took multiple roles, and approached each one with an unmistakable charm that only the Haddonfield boys can bring.
Gorbots was shot in a record four days, not too shabby if they do say so themselves.
Gorbots is the story of Dr. Tony Radcliffe (David Marroni), an evil genius who has been locked away in the Black Java Heights Home for the criminally insane and horrifically retarded, located in Norfolk Virginia. With the help of his man-servant Schmuck (Roy Ayres) Radcliffe escapes from his incarceration and begins his evil plot to take over the world.
Radcliffe begins taking over the world, by creating a murderous race of zombie robots known as Gorbots. What no one would ever think to guess is that the Gorbots are created by a heavy infusion of caffeine, and that the only way to kill a Gorbot is to introduce an even larger shock of Caffeine.
Hot on the trail of our villain is the Norfolk Police Department, personified in Detective Dole (Ayres) and his two rookies. Rookie Number One (Peter Ciba), or Doles "normal rookie" a rich boy from "richville", became one of Radcliffes failed attempts at creating a Gorbot. But the Second Rookie (Matthew Blanchard) was one bad motha (shut your mouth) who stood by Doles side throughout the film.
But what would a horror movie be without a female heroin who must run from the killers? Enter Monica Landrews (Patricia Danos) a lovely college student who only wanted to do a little studying, is that so wrong? I ask you... is it?
Will Dole uncover the identity of the person kidnapping people? Will the murderous Gorbots kill the entire populace of the Black Java Heights area? Will you laugh your ass off at this Schlocky film... you'll have to see for yourself.
