Scully was assigned to the X-Files after graduating from Quantico in 1992 to lend a down-to-earth, scientific opinion to Mulder's work. ("Pilot")

She was abducted by Duane Barry (and possibly by aliens as well) during the closure of the X-Files. Scully had returned to Quantico to teach, and Mulder had been assigned a new partner, Alex Krycek. Scully mysteriously reappeared in a hospital, and the X-File on her disappearance remains open, due to her inability to remember the circumstances surrounding her abduction. Scully's older sister, Melissa, was shot in Scully's apartment by Alex Krycek (Rat Boy). He was really trying to shoot Scully.

Scully discovered that she had cancer after being attacked by a man who survivedby eating cancerous tumors found in hospital biohazardous waste disposals (he worked as an EMT)("Leonard Betts"). This attack, and his comment of "Sorry, but you have something I need", prompted her to have x-rays and a check-up, discovering cancer in the frontal lobe of her brain. She is undergoing treatment, but the cancer is reputably uncurable.|
