Now, while this song isn't 100% Mulder, there are parts I feel ring very true. I hear shades of the pain Samantha's abduction brought, and Mulder's search for the truth, but most of all, in this song, I hear Mulder's want and need to protect Scully from the very truth he wants her to come to know. As she encounters aspects of that truth, she continues to be sacrificed over and over again. She continues to be hurt. Mulder wants to shelter her from that pain; he feels it as acutely as she. But he also wants her to believe - quite a paradox, eh?
