MEN FEAR TIME, YET TIME, FEAR THE PYRAMIDS

Hi. Welcome to my Egyptian page. You won't find anything here that you don't already know, not if your an avid Ancient Egyptian fan, but I couldn't possibly have a site about my interest without adding an Egyptian page. I have been fasinated with Ancient Egypt sense the age of about five, especially the Great pyramid and the Sphinx so, I just had to add one! I do have some very interesting links to check out. Ya never know, you may find something new! Hope you enjoy!

THE GREAT PYRAMID
First, the Great Pyramid! There are actually 10 egyptian pyramids, most famous by far are the Pyramids on the Giza Plateau, located on the west bank of the Nile River on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. Of the three Pyramids of Giza, the most famous is the largest and oldest, the Great Pyramid. Books have been written about the great pyramid by everyone from the biblical obsessed to nuclear pysicists, covering every theory from God to aliens to predictions of the future.

The great Pyramid, Standing 450 feet high and with a base of 755 feet, is constructed from an estimated 22 acres of stone blocks weighing in at an average of 2 1/2 tons each. At the time of its building, the pyramid was taller, but it has lost 30 feet of its top over the centurys. Each of the Pyramids mortar joints are 1/50" , an absolutely incredible feat! The temperature inside the Great Pyramid is a constant 68 degrees F, the exact temperature of the earths internal core. The Pyramid is 30 times larger in mass than the Empire State building.The sides of the Pyramid was once covered with apx. 144,000 smooth slabs, reflecting the sun. It was visable from the mountains of Israel and from our moon.
Of the seven wonders of the world, the Pyramids are the only remaining. The mass area of the Pyramids of Geiza, cover enough ground to hold St. Peters in Rome, the cathedrals of Florence and Milan, westminister and St. Pauls in London combined.

THE SPHINX
The Sphinx stands in gaurd of the Pyramids. It is 140 feet in length, 65 feet tall and 13 feet in width. Just the eyes of the Sphinx are 6 feet tall! The front of this monument serves as temple, and it faces the rising sun. Prior to the 18th dynasty, when the first clearing of sand took place, the majority of the Sphinx was buried beneith the desert sand. The Sphinx also shows signs of "rain erosion." The last heavy rainfall in the Sahara Desert was apx. 8000 years ago, presenting a problem with current thought as to the date the monument was built.

This great monument is slowly being destroyed from exposure to the elements and modern pollution. In 1988 the left shoulder of the monument fell off. The Egyptian Government put into effect a restoration campaign and in the early 1980's added 2000 limestone blocks to the Sphinx which were injected with chemicals.This effort failed.
