Definition of Catagory 5:
Category 5, Category unrelated to degree of enemy knowledge. A. Individuals whose remains have been determined to be nonrecoverable as outlined in Department of the Army Technical Manual 10-286, January 1964, sction 39.
On 9-May-1970 Sp4 Haight was aboard a UH1C helicopter (serial #66-15148) which crashed and exploded about 5 miles southwest of the city of: Phy Vinh in the Vihn Binh Province, South Vietnam.
Personnel were on hand immediately to inspect the site all crew members were accounted for except for Haight. A 1973 search of the site as determined by the coordinates failed to find the remains of SP4 Haight. At that time SP4 Haight was listed as K.I.A., body not recovered.
My biggest question in this case is:
Just how did the government come to the conclusion to write SP4 Haight off as K.I.A.?
If he was dead wouldn't it make sense that he would be found with the rest of his crewmembers?
I feel that SP4 Haight might still be alive today
I would like some answers as to why we wrote him off as dead back in 1973.
