The veritechs are a form of mecha that are jet fighters that transform into three different modes: Jet, Guardian, and Battloid.
Jet Mode
This mode was modeled after the F-14 Tomcat of our day. Traditionally, it carries roughly twelve missiles on their wings. Two lasers are mouted on the nose cone and a powerful chain-gun is on the undercarriage. For storage in the hangar, the wings sweep fully back and the tailerons fold down.
Powered by a FF-2001 fusion tuerbine, the jet's max speed is 2676 MPH with a 60 mile flight ceiling.
Guardian Mode
This is a mode that traditionally was not in the design of the Veritech, but, in time, pilots found it necessary for close quarters dogfights. This is the only mode, besides Battloid, that the Veritech can use its hands to hold and fire the GU-11 Gun Pod. In Guardian mode, the Veritech can go as fast as 670 MPH and come to a complete hover if need be.
Battloid
This is the final stage in the Veritech's transformation sequence. In this mode, the Veritech is shaped as a forty-foot tall armored soldier. It is fully capable of hand to hand combat and can use its Gun Pod fully. To fire missiles, the wings fold out from behind its back. Laser(s) are mounted on the head of the Battloid; the exact number depends on the type of Veritech.
-The VT-1D is the Veritech used for training pilots and is the Veritech one with an extra seat for the trainer. This has two lasers and is only used for training.
-The VF-1A is the most common type of Veritech and is usually given out to the low-ranking pilot. It only has one laser on its head and was piloted by Ben Dixon and Max Sterling in the beginning of the Macross series.
-The VF-1J is a Veritech given out to low-ranking officers and/or ace pilots. This has two lasers on its head. This is the same type of Veritech Rick Hunter and Max and Miriya Sterling piloted in the Macross series.
-The VF-1S is only for the leaders of large Veritech teams. It has four lasers on its head and is very rare for most to have. This is what type Skull One (Rick Hunter and Roy Fokker's Veritech) is.
The Veritech has several upgrades it can attain. One is the Super Veritech Armor. This adds missile power, added thrust and mobility and extra armor. Another add-on is the Armored Veritech or GPB-1S armor which adds missiles and armor but restricts the Veritech to only Battloid mode.
Originally, the Veritech had 57 seperate controls. But during the malcontent days, they were upgraded and boasted 67 controls. Right before Dolza's Rain of Death, all of Skull Squadron was comprised of Super Veritechs.
