Finally a Past
Part Five
By Alicia Campbell
"Gambit no trust her."
"But if it's true.."
"An' if it not!" Gambit's eyes flashed in anger for his friend. "I say we check it out an' if it true, den he come."
"But Logan is the best person to judge the truth of the matter," Jean argued.
"I believe I must side with Remy. If Logan is faced with another lie, I believe he will forever shut out the possibility of learning the truth. We know that he has always resented losing his past memories. It's worse when people play with him, telling him lies to try and manipulate him." Storm spoke quietly, thinking of her love.
"Yeah, what if he up and flips on us all? Ah think we should protect him and everyone 'round him at ta same time." Rogue tossed her hair and hoped it didn't sound like she doubted Wolverine. She trusted him, she just feared what another lie would do to him.
"I believe that ultimately this is Wolverine's decision. I will speak to him about it, but I believe our best chance is having him agree to someone accompanying him." The Professor ended the discussion with that.
However, Jean, Gambit and Storm all stayed behind to speak with him.
Jumping to be first, Remy announced, "Gambit would like to go with Wolverine, non?"
"I believe I would be the logical choice as team's second leader," Ororo interjected.
"And I believe that my psychic abilities coupled with Wolverine's experience would prove to be most useful," Jean finished.
"I know you all care deeply for Wolverine's safety. I will take each of your suggestions into consideration. I will let you know." The Professor turned his hover-car around and exited the room.
"He's worried about this." Jean frowned in her own concern.
"Aren't we all?" Storm hurried out of the room.
Gambit's red eyes burned into the wall, until all that shown were two red slits on jet blackness. "If dis be 'nother lie, Gambit will personally take care of dem." He turned on his heel and stalked out of the room.
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that," Jean whispered.
"He's got a family," Rogue spoke through clenched teeth. She knew Jean was trying to consider all the good that might come out of this, but she disagreed. "All Ah can say is ya better keep on ya toes. Ya never know what might be waitin'."
"Why can't anybody in this house think positively?"
"'Cause we all know better. Good luck." Rogue turned and left the hanger. Jean was getting ready to go to Canada with Wolverine and Crystal. They would take the Blackbird for speed and safety. Jean hoped they only needed it for its speed.
"Hey Jeanie girl. I still don't know why you wanted to come."
"Yes you do, Logan. Everyone wanted to come. I was told you'd only
allow one person. The professor chose me." Jean put an arm around
Wolverine's shoulder.
"Yeah, I know. Maybe we'll even have some fun." He grinned and Jean
knew he meant action.
"I hope not. You cause way too much trouble when you have fun!" They
laughed and boarded the plane. After a minute, Crystal joined them.
"I'm so excited, Andrew. So is mother. When I called her, she could
hardly believe me! It's like a dream come true. We finally found you. You'll
love it in Vancouver. It's the most wonderful place.." Crystal's voice droned
on, as Wolverine rolled his eyes at her enthusiasm. Jean giggled. The flight
seemed to take forever.
