Jean woke up with a start, drenched in a cold sweat. Something was wrong. Her mind was screaming danger. She just wasn't sure what..

Quickly, she got up and hurried into the living room. The couch lay empty. Where was Logan? She ran outside. It was cold and drizzling. It was also pitch black. She couldn't see a thing.

Suddenly, a hand reached out and grabbed her arm. She whipped around, ready to scream. But another hand covered her mouth.

"Chere, quiet. Is Gambit. Follow me. Gambit seen where dey take him." She stilled and slunk after Gambit. He led her down a treacherous path, across rooftops and jumping fences. Many times Jean had to catch herself with her telekinetic powers and she was amazed with Gambit's agility. He broke into a run and she saw a large semi preparing to leave. He leapt onto the edge of the truck's back and held out his hand for Jean. She gracefully landed on the edge next to him and he steadied her.

"Who is it?" Jean hissed.

"Dis is not da leader. Whoever it be, we soon see."

The ride was long and bouncy. Jean found it hard to keep a hold of the truck, and was grateful for Gambit's assistance. Finally, they stopped in front of a large compound. Gambit grabbed her wrist and pulled her under the truck. They heard doors slam; then, feet come to the back and threw open the doors. After grunting for a minute, the person called out for assistance. Several mutants came out of the compound and together they lifted Wolverine and took him inside. Gambit caught Jean's hand and rushed her to a dark shadow. Jean had to wonder how many compounds like this he'd broken into.

After a bit, the truck was taken away and silence returned. After a minute, Gambit started slowly circling the building. He looked like he wished he could just leave Jean somewhere, but didn't want to risk it.

Jean decided to prove she could help and stopped him. She led him to a patch of ground and silently reached down to show him a hidden door. He grinned at her. After a whispered second, Jean extended her powers and deactivated the security locks. Gambit cracked the door open and they both slipped inside. They found themselves in a long corridor and Gambit led the way. Jean directed them which direction to go, by where she sensed Logan. Gambit took care of any guards or security devices they came upon.

Finally, they came to a small door. Jean checked inside it psychically and announced the room was a lot bigger than it looked. She also said there were many people inside, including Logan. Just as Gambit reached for the door, it swung open.

"Come in, I've been waiting for you." The voice ran chills up both X-Men's spines.
