The Beginning
A scream of pain and fright came from a small house just outside of the garden district. Just ten minutes ago she had been reading to her six-year-old son and daughter. Now she fights for her and her children's safely.
"Y` hore," he slapped her again. She let out a small cry of pain. "Y` been sleeping around again, haven't y`?!?" She shook her head. He continued to yell and scream at her, as he beat her.
"Please stop, Lee, please? I haven't, I swear," she pleaded. He hit her again, cursing. Turning his back on her, he headed for the children.
"I bet you aren't even mine!"
"Daddy?" the little boy's blue eye widened. The man raised his hand and slapped the boy across the face. His reddish hair fell in his face, as his head snapped back. A tear trickled down his face.
"Leave ah children alone," the women hit her husband over the head. As he fell to his knees she beckoned her daughter to take her hand. As her daughter did she started to scurry over to her son. Picking him up she headed for the door.
"Mommy?" the boy sniffled. "Were we bad, again?"
"No, honey," she reassured him. "You didn't do anything. Daddy is a bad man, but he won't hurt you anymore. He'll never see you two again," she continued to run. "Now we must be quiet."
"Mommy," the young girl tugged on her leg. "Mommy, I'm tired."
"I know, honey, so am I, but don't worry this will be all over soon. We are going to go to a safe-house, but we can rest for a few minutes, OK?" She tried to comfort her children.
"Yes, Mommy," she yawned. As they caught their breath, the mother heard footsteps coming their way. Even if it wasn't her husband she knew there was danger, for it was late. As she peeked her head around the corner she saw him, her husband. He had tried to be quiet, but was too intoxicated. It was not like he hadn't hit her plenty of times before, but this time he was more angry then she had ever seen him and he'd never really hit her children. She quickly hide her children behind a step slope.
"Now, be quiet and don't come out until he is gone." The two children were scared , but listened to her words. She kissed each of her children on their heads and disappeared. Saying only three simple words, "I love you." Then proved it by dying for them.
"Their names are Remy and Robin Chevette."
"Hey, aren't those Lee's kids?"
"Yeah, I'm guessing that was his wife"
"Were is he today? You don't think he.."
"Non, I had to drive him home last night, he was really drunk. I think he just has a hang over."
"Well, we better take the kids over there. I hope he doesn't take it to hard, poor guy."
"Poor kids, they probably heard the whole thing."
"Me either, I'm afraid." The two men came out of the office.
"Kids?" one of the men bent down to their eye level. "Where going to take you home," he smiled at them. Remy's bloodshot eyes widened in fear. "What's the matter, son?"
"He killed Mommy and hurt me," the boy's face still had the slap mark from the night before.
"Who?"
"Daddy."
"Now, don't lie, son. You could get people in trouble."
"But he did!"
"I said stop that, Remy! Now, I'm going to take you home."
"No!" he yelled at them and ran out the door. Thinking his sister was right behind him, for he had nudged her. She had been following, too. He had seen her, but when he stopped running she was no where to be found. They had caught her, he wanted to be with her so bad, and he knew she did too. He could feel it, he could her hear her screaming his name, calling for him, but it was only in his mind. Slowly his link to his sister faded. He was lost and for the first time in his life he was truly alone.
