Reunion

Part 1

Christine Demerath

The battle rages and one by one they fall, not to their death but to their defeat. Their valiant efforts and dreams are coming to a halt and there is not much they can do. But there must always be hope not matter what has happened, there must be hope. If not this world, Earth, would be doomed. They will fight to the bitter end, no matter what the results may turn out to be. They fight for a cause to live in peace that is why they stand boldly and proudly. They are the men and women that have thrived on a dream so that they can better the future. Not all believed in that in the beginning, but now that they have fought for the dream they believe. They would go to the ends of the universe to save someone's life that is why they are called the X-Men, the mightiest of heroes.

On this day they fight one of their own they fight their teacher, friend, and many other things. It was his dream that was suppose to better the world, it is that same dream they all believe in. In which they fight and live for, but something went wrong and the world started to fall apart for them and many others. Many teams were formed for the same reason and now they must fight also against someone they respect. It is a sad and darkened day for these young men and women. Some will never be the same, because there mentor and to some a father-like figure has been brought to his knees. Not literally but figuratively he has given into the darkness of one man's soul and seines. This once great man was called Professor Charles Francis Xavier.

Many months ago he wiped his greatest enemy and closest friend's mind clear of all memory and hate. This man was Magneto, also known a Eric Magnus Lesherr the most powerful man in the world. He hadn't gone down without a fight it took a great deal of power to accomplish the great task. It took two of the most powerful telepathy to wipe his mind of all the hate, sorrow, and anguish he had induced in his many years. No one though about what happened to his mind, where it had gone. It didn't go to the Astral Plain, the farthest place one's mind can travel out of it's body. No, it went into the deeps of Charles Xavier's mind and there it stayed. Until Xavier couldn't keep him locked up anymore that is when he became someone else. Not Magneto, but he became two in one.

He was both Professor Xavier and Magneto, both rated the most powerful beings of their kind. Together they became Onslaught, the more powerful and deadliest being to hit the universe.

The Avengers and the Fantastic Four fight among side these heroes. They are hero themselves, but the X-Men will live and they will not. They must sacrifice their lives to save millions of others for that reason, they are heroes. The X-Men would do the same except for one reason. They can not Onslaught is a mutant so he becomes more powerful when he absorbs a another mutant. Although if he tries to absorb a human with special abilities he can not and these people can attach from inside. There are few mutants on the Avengers and Fantastic Four teams, so many from the teams will not survive. They do the only thing they can do and kill Onslaught some with there last breathe and some with a second chance at life. As the hero go in the others attack, by simultaneously hitting Onslaught with all their might. With one big BOOM their lives and the lives of every other person in the universe change. The future that was to come will not, but what will come is the question.

The remaining heroes stand around the crater and the only thing left of their friends and to some family. Quicksilver has lost as much, maybe even more then the rest. Both his sister and wife were taking away from him, along with his teammates and friends. Or maybe it was Franklin Richards that lost the most. He had lost his mother, father, uncle, and godfather at a very young age. He is a mutant like, the others, and was trapped inside of Onslaught along with Nate Gray and Xavier. Xavier had lived but his powers and Onslaught were gone. Nate Gray, a young man from another timeline, didn't lose anything, except the fact that this world would not be destroyed like his.

Weak and tried they fled for their home, before the authorities and reporters arrived. As they headed home many tears were spilt, others tried to comfort them. Hank McCoy, AKA Beast, flies the Blackbird unsteadily back to Winchester . He isn't the only one shacking because the resent events. As they slowly land the jet into the hidden hanger one by one they stand. This is their home and it has suffered the wrath of Onslaught. Many levels have been destroyed but will be rebuild, in due time. It is still a place that will be used as a safe haven for mutants, but one couldn't tell by looking at it. They will keep believing in the dream no matter what happens. Some may leave but many will stay, and the ones that do leave will return. But for now they stand together as one family.

"Oh my god," Rogue exclaims quietly. "Is the rest of the house this bad??"

"`Fraid so, chere." Gambit answered. " Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she lied. And the room was once more quiet.

"I think we should all rest, unless you have any major injuries. Then go to the med. lab now," Cyclops commanded more then suggested.

"Where are we suppose to stay? Almost all the rooms are destroyed and the rest had holes in the roof," Gambit spoke up, but not in his usual way. This time he asked quietly and with a tint of sadness.

"You can all live in..... in our house, until the mansion ....is... is fixed up," Jean offered sobs still raking though her body.

"Thanks you," another voice rang out. The voice belonged to Quicksilver, who was holding a sleeping child.

"Your welcome Pietro," Jean smiled weakly. "You can join the X-Men again if you like, right Scott?"

"Right. Same goes for Nate."

"No, thanks." Nate Grey, X-Man, answered. "I'll be leaving," and with that he fly out of the hang and headed toward New York, once more.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Let's get to the boat house," Logan started walking to the door. The other slow followed after Logan. It seemed like hours as they walked throw the rubble they called home. It hurt them to see their home in ashes. It hit Charles even harder, for he had caused the destruction. He had spent many years of his life here, he had helped people here. He tried to make a difference, he might have even suggested, but now he has destroyed everything he was worked so hard for. Just like his home, his accomplishments had become ashes. The dream might not have died, but something in Charles did. He still cares and he still wants to help, but with what he has just done he thinks that he will never be able to fix what damage he has done to the mutant race. He has give people more reasons to hate, fear, and kill mutants then ever before. He has lost his hope.
