Reunion

Part Nine

"We be touching down in a few minutes, Hank. Could you set up a bed for Gambit?"

"I'm already done, Fearless Leader. How is his situation?"

"He's stable for now anyway. His heart beat was fluctuating earlier."

"Do you have any idea what caused the coma?"

"Yeah, but let's hold off til we get there."

"We're coming in view of the mansion, Cyclops." Bishop prepared the jet for landing.

"I'll meet you in the hanger."

The jet's door open and Jean slow lifted Gambit and his medical equipment out of the jet and placed Remy on a transportable hospital bed. Both Robin and Rogue close at her heals. "Hank, as soon as you get Gambit into the med.-lab and settled in. Call me and I'll send someone up to watch over him, so you and Jean can come to the Ready Room."

"Scott, I think I should stay with, Remy." Jean looked from her husband to Remy.

"Okay, but I expect the rest of the team there."

Robin looked around at the strange group of people. Some looked of the new faces watched her as well. Who are all these strange people. One of them looks familiar, but what would Remy be doing with a well-known scientist and an ex-Avengers.  They started moving toward a door on the other side of the hanger. She followed, when they reached the door her, Jean, and the furry doctor, Hank McCoy, went strait. As the other seven or eight turned down another long corridor. The three went down about three, four doors and went in. They walked into a room quite a large size where, Remy was moved onto another bed. Without a word the Beast started to change the needle coming from his arm and various other things. Robin watched, much to her dislike as Beast continued as he talked to Jean. Robin had been hugging herself slightly, not enough for anyone to notice, and looking at Remy, when Hank startled her.

"So may I ask of your name?"

"Jewel." She spoke only looking up at him for a second.

"Ah don't trust her!" Rogue started in before everyone had a chance to come in the door.

"Rogue, please, clam down. I don't like having her here anymore than you. But Jean mentioned something about her, keeping Gambit alive this long." There was a silence.

"Who is she, Scott?" Storm took a seat across from him, trying to mask her shock and worry.

"She hasn't given us a name and we don't know much else about her. Besides the fact that she's a higher level mutant and that she's quite hostel towed us." Rogue opened her mouth to protest, just before Scott noticed and continued. "For all we know it's because she's trying to protect Gambit."

"What do you mean 'for all we know'?"

"We'll Jean's having some difficulties reading her. All she can get from her is an occasional projection of her thoughts and that even takes a bit of work."

"So what are you going do about her?"

"Nothing, really."

"What!?!" Rogue practically hit the ceiling.

"We're going to keep an eye on her, but Jean and I don't think it's the best idea to separate the two of them. Besides we don't have any reason to think she did anything to Gambit. And while she's here don't antagonize her." He shot a glance at Rogue.

"Well, Jewel why don't you go clean up while I take care of Remy," he smiled brightly. While Jean contuined to work on Gambit.

"Non, I'd rather stay with Remy."

"If you don't mind me saying you look like you need one."

She glanced across the room to a mirror, he was right she looked like hell. Her hair was still filthy from the night before at the bar, and there was dried blood on her hand from fixing up Remy and a few drops of blood on her face when Remy had hit the larger man. Her eyes were red and her cheeks sagged. And she could smell the liquor in her hair and clothing. "I see what you mean, but I'd rather be close to Remy."

"We have a shower in the next room."

She looked a Remy and back at the doctor. "Oui, I guess I should, but do you have any clothing you could borrow me?"

"Indefinatly," he out of the door and in a minute he returned with two fresh towles, a large swether, and pants. He handed it to her, "If you'll excuse me I have to finish this," then turned his attention back to Gambit.

"Thanks," she looked at the strange blue man. How fascinating he was. Then taking the things he had given her she walked over to the door she assumed was the bathroom.

******

She closed the door behind to find a bathroom quite big. She found the shampoo and other soaps easily enough and set them next to the tub. Turning on the shower and slowly undressed, as a slit rumble or pain shot throw her. Yet, when she stepped into the smoldering hot shower it all seemed to fad away. She grabbed the bottle of shampoo and squeezed some into her hand. Gently she moved her hands over every inch of her hair. She continued to do this until all the smell was gone. She turned her head to the shower nosial and felt her pores being cleaned as she used the wash cloth to apply the soap. It would take her another ten minutes to finish.

"He seem to have another few injuries besides his metal status. He has two or more cracked ribs and there are more than one sign indicating he was in a fight."

"Is he going to be all right?" Rogue's eyes met Beast.

"We're not sure, physically his bones will heal and this scares as well, but," he cleared his throat. "His mind is very damaged. Jean might be able to repair it, but there's no way to be certain. She's never done that much repairing on a persons mind without help. She might not be able to pull it off."

Rogue walked to the door as fast as she could, without running. "I'll be in the med.-lab if ya'll need me." The door closed and she flew with lighting speed down the one corridor to the next and into the med.-lab. First looking a Remy she quietly scanned the room and sat next to him. Jean didn't speak and watched Rogue's movements. "Is he going to make it?" She couldn't believe Hank. She loved him, but she just couldn't believe it. Tears slowly streamed down her face.

"Rogue, there's no way to be sure. I think I might be able to, but I really wish the Professor was here, he might have been able to help me."

His eyes open with caution, last thing he remember is being attacked. His head was pounding and as reached up to clench his head he discovered that he could no longer move his arms. Now opening his eyes he finds himself in a laboratory. What in the world?  "Not 'what', Xavier, who." He looked up to see a sinister smile, consisting of razor shape, white teeth.
