Part 11

Christine Demerath

“Mornin`, chere,” Remy smiled at Jean Grey Summers.

“Remy, you should be resting.”

“Pah,” he snorted. “Ya think I’m goin` rest with two lovely ladies fightin`, over moi? Not dat I don’t enjoy it.”

“Oh really?” Jean brightened. He nodded sharply; his grin grew wider by the minute, even though the pain in his head increased.

“Remy, can I talk ta ya?” came a timid Robin, or “Jewel”.

“Yeah,” his grin retreated a little.

“We’ll be out in the hall,” Jean pulled Hank toward the door.

“But I need to run some more……”

“It can wait,” he was jerked into the hall.

*SIGH*

“So…” Robin stood an odd distance away, as if he was ready to strike her.

“I ain’t gonna bite,” he shifted in his bed.

“Yeah, I know.” She sat on the bed, but at the foot.

“Robin, I’m sorry,” she looked up at him, thought his head was now bowed. “Ya know, for not being there. Not coming back.” His voice was hoarse. “I got lost that day. Robin, please I’m telling ya the truth, I would have looked for ya, but I couldn’t.” His voice lowered a notch, ”`cause I forgot.”

“Ya forgot us? How could ya forget us?”

“I didn’t want ta remember. I didn’t want ta remember my momma being beaten every night and her being killed in front of us. And with da bad went da good. Robin, I’m sorry.” He pulled her close and held her strongly in his arms.

“Jean, what exactly did you do in Remy’s mind?” He stopped waiting for her to catch up.

“That’s between Remy and me.”

“I don’t mean what you saw, I mean why did he react like that?”

“Just what you thought, he was trying to block me out.”

“But why didn’t he do it right away?”

“Scott is waiting for us, I told him we we’re coming.”

“Oh…” he didn’t push it any farther. They walked down the halls in silence until they reached the others. The hissing of the doors stopped the argument-taking place.

“Hank, how is Gambit?”

“Fine, Bishop.”

“Scott, Remy is awake, the women he’s with, Jewel, is okay.” She smile to her husband as she approached him.

“ Good, why did you block me out before? Are you okay, hon, you look run down?” “Yeah, I’m fine.” Her head resting on his shoulder and his hand around her waist. He gently kissed he forehead. “What was that for?”

“Do I have to have a reason to kiss my wife?”

“I suppose not, but that gives me every right to this.” She kissed him hard on the lips. No one was really paying attention to the two lovers; since Hank was answering their questions.

“I’m going do to talk to Gambit.”

“Not yet, Scott. Remy is talking to Jewel.” Jean looks around to find Rogue missing. “Scott, where’s Rogue?”

“She went to get some coffee for you and Hank, why?”

“Come on,” she sped out of the room Scott quickly following.

The door hissed opened and Robin jumped out of Remy’s embrace. “Hank? Jean? How’s Remy doing?” The movement had caught her attention, she turned to find Remy and Robin sitting on the bed. “REMY! You’re awake!” She ran to hug him, then remember Robin and stopped. “Mmmm….” She bit her lip. Remy look to Robin, she nodded.

“Chere, this here is my sister.”

“Your WHAT?” It took a second to register. “But I thought Jean Luc, only had you and Henri?”

“Non, but this ain’t my pappa’s chilie. Well not the father you know.”

“But….”

“I’ll explain it one day, `kay? But don’t go tellin` anyone.” She nodded.

“Remy, what happened ta ya? Where were ya headin`?”

“Don’t worry `bout it.”

“Remy, I’m sorry.” He shook his head.

“Don’t be.”

The med.-bay’s door opened, as Scott and Jean hurried in. She sighs in relief, as much as Scott did in disappointment.

“Dere be a problem?”

“No, Gambit. Good to see you’re feeling better.”

“Who said dat?” He mummered.

“What?”

“Nothin`, Cyc.”

“Gambit, what did you think you were doing leaving like that?”

“He sure doesn’t waste time does he?” Jewel smirked at Remy; he returned the smile, before answering Scott.

“What’s it to you?”

“We’ll I’d like to know where my team is.”

“I was taking a ride.”

“*Sigh* You are too much like Logan.”

“And that’s a bad thing?” Scott turned to find Wolverine smiling at him, with a few others that had come from the Ready Room.

“Remy, thank the goddess you are fine.”

“Glad ya noticed, chere.” He smirked at her charmingly.

“Remy,” she laughed placing her hand on his shoulder.

Hank continued to watch the others talk a while, before he had to kick them out. He had been talking with Scott before he looked up to see Gambit tiring. “Excuse me,” Hank dismissed Cyclops, now walking over to the small group. “I’m sorry, but you have to come back later, Remy needs his rest.” Hank nudged Logan toward the door, Logan’s reply was a growl, but proceeded to get up and leave, nodding to Gambit.

“Ah’ll be back later, sugar.”

“Promise,” a naughty grin appeared.

“Don’t go pushin` it, Cajun,” she waved her finger at him, as she left. Robin stayed planted next to Remy. Hank headed for his chem. lab.

“Hank, can I have a few word with Gambit?”

“Of course, fearless leader, but only a bit longer. Remy needs his rest.”

“Thanks.”

“Remy I’ll be in my lab. Please, try not to stay up much later.”

“`kay, Henri.” The lab door shut behind, Gambit turned to the approaching Summers. “So, what ya want ta talk ta me `bout?”

“Where did you get information that you left before you took off?”

“Sure don’t take his time, non?” Jewel smiled to Remy. He held his chuckles in. “Ain’t none of ya business,” his temperament stayed the same.

“I think it is,” Scott demanded his answer. Gambit’s jaw stiffened, as he refused to answer. Cyclops had a chip on his shoulder before the conversion started, Gambit’s wasn’t making it any better. “Damit, Gambit! I want an answer, there is some definitely wrong with this whole thing and I think we deserve an answer.”

“Forget it,” his voice lower his eye glistened.

“No, I won’t. I…..”

“Back off, just back off,” Remy jumped to his feet in protest. Big mistake, before he knew what was happening, he crumbled to the floor, from the sharpe pains shouting at him. The blackness engulfs him.
