Reunion
Part 16
Christine Demerath

"So Gambit just thought it a good idea to just up and leave?!?" Scott boomed. Jean moved to her husband's side and rapped her arm around his abbs.

"Clam down, Scott. They're fine." Jean whispers into his ear.

"Can we get on with it?" Rogue snaps, she looks as if she is ready to spring out the door.

"Rogue, please, sit down, relax." Storm smoothed gently from across the room.

"No thanks, sugar, I'd rather stand."

"Suit your yourself, love." Besty takes the chair that stands in front of Rogue. "So let's get to it. Everyone here?"

"Yes, we checked with cerebro and Remy didn't depart alone, Logan and Remy's young friend, Jewel, when along with him."

"So where are they?" Scott.

"There are three different places they could have gone." Hank pulls out some papers and hands them across to Scott. "That is why we need Jean and Psylocke here."

"It is obvious that Gambit and the others didn't want us to tag along, so why are we going against their wishes?" Joseph's comment was sincere.

"`Cuz Joe, either Remy nor Logan know what's good for them. For god's sake Remy can hardly move around, he's mentally and physically stressed to the max!"

"Rogue, do not worry. As long as our Cajun friend doesn't go up against anyone to powerful, he should be fine. I've noticed that he heals fast or has a very high tolerance rate for pain, but unfortunately I can tell since the man refuses to stay in my lab for more then 10 minutes."

"Okay, okay, let's just get to it." Bobby almost yelled out, he was getting annoyed.

Getting up Robin started move toward the middle compartment. "Sit down, kid," Logan growled. Robin looked back at Logan with surprise. "You have no idea what he just told us. Let me talk to him."

"But…"

"Sit." He barked at her. "As soon as I clam down I'll go back there. You watch the controls." He sat in his chair breathing deeply for the next three minutes as Robin watched in amazement. She could feel him fighting down a deep rage and stopping an old wound from opening. And once he won over his anger he got up and went to talk to her brother.

"Don't know if I can completely forgive ya, Cajun, but I think I'm willing to except you. You may not have meant to do it but it happened. I can't change it and neither can you. You've proven yourself an X-Man, and I know you are sorry for what happened, so I won't hold it against ya." Remy stood staring out the small-pressurized window, not giving Logan any indication what to think. "Well, let's get going, we've got bad guys to toast." Remy turned with a bright smile on his face around to face the gruff little man. Remy whispered his thanks to the saints.

"You know Sinister that I will never help you."

"People can be broken, Charles."

"I am not one of those people, Sinister."

"Nathaniel please."

"I do not see why you come after me Sinister. My powers are gone."

"Ahh.. but that is where you are wrong. First, I will abstract information from your prefect memories and then study you're powers."

"Did you not hear me, Sinister? I have no powers anymore."

"That is what you think, Chararles. You're power is meraly dormaint."

Xavier's jaw nearly dropped and Sinister smiled as he put Xavier's gag back on. A smile that turned to a frown as an alert went off. Remy and his crew had arrived.

"Got you're body armor on, boy?"

"Yeah," he hissed though clinked teeth. It hurt as he pulled his boot on, not his foot but the nevers in his body.

"You sure ya wanna be doing this, Cajun?"

"I've gotta, he's got Chuck." He worked on tying his shoes.

"Robin you suited up and armed?" Logan banged on the door.

"I told ya'll, it's Jewel." Her firm lean body slides out into the doorway. Her radiant red/brown hair glistening. Her crystal blue eyes shining an ice blue that chilled most men's bones or excited them. "Especially when on a mission." The black armor looked as if showing off her muscular and beautifully curved body. On the chest of the suit was a blue jewel and a small blue shash swirling around it. Her utility belt was light and also a blue color this time a darker bold almost appearing black. She was ready and powered to go.

"Nice." Logan smiled.

Playfully with a hint of defeat Remy sighed hitting his head and walked to the front window. "Still don't think I could talk you out of this, huh?" His gaze fell onto the complex he would soon be trying to sneak his way into. He sighed unhappily and moved to the hatch. They were clocked at the moment and hovering a good half mile from the base. Remy would have to walk that distance before anything could happen, he'd have to try and get out Xavier without being noticed. He knew it wouldn't happen, he knew that he'd have to face Sinister once more and fight the Marauders but he had to try. Xavier's life depended on him and he wasn't about to left anyone else down again.

"Remy, be careful brother." Jewel dropped her guard for a brief second as she hugged him. "I don't want to lose you again."

"Me either, sister. And take some of your own advise." Remy grinned and opened the hatch. "Logan you take care of her."

"I will, Cajun." He touched Remy's shoulder. Remy looked up and saw friendship in Logan's eyes, really friendship, right before he barked at Remy to jump already. Looking at the other two in the cabin Remy turned and jumped out. Pulling his parachute not far after. He just hoped they wouldn't see him.

Jewel watched him land to the ground before Logan brought her out of the trance she had been in. "Okay, Jewel, let's get to work." They watched Remy safely land and the hatch close up. "In a half hour the show starts." The gruff little man moved to the controls again..

<><><><><>*****

His job was fairly simple all he had to do was break into a complex and get someone out. No problem, under normal circumstances. But this wasn't normal, Remy was hurt. He's body was aching by the time he made it to the fencing surrounding the complex. Looking around he searched for something that would get him over the fence easily. The trees. He looked around looking for one inside the fence as well, and cursed as he saw only a small one about 15 feet high. The rest had been destroyed in the making of the building or were smaller. He had to move fast only had 4 minutes to get into the fence and be ready to move by the time the other two distracted the Marauders and he found Charles Xavier. He had to get up a tree on his side of the fence and land on the otherside. He knew he couldn't just jump or land like he did normally, he'd probably pass out form the pain as soon as he hit the earth. He had to do something else... like jump into something that wouldn't be so solids... pine branches. He hissed in pain as his plan went into action, this was going to hurt. Boy was it going to hurt. He'd been climbing trees since he was little and was great at it but the great amount of pain in his chest was ripping him apart. The parachute drop wasn't much help, when he released at least another crack or two were heard... Getting ready he pressed a button on his belt two times to let the other he was about to go in and that they could start at will. Looking up to the sky, putting his hands together he prayed this would work and of course not hurt too much. He jumped.

The light blinked twice and an alert sound went off telling them Remy was ready and they had to be too. Jewel looked over to Logan and he nodded. "Engaging now."

<><><><>*****

The building rocked along with everything else in it. In Vertigo's room a lamp fell, Archlight and Schalphunter fell onto their sides, Scramble was thrown from the couch, Riptide slipped and cut himself with a kitchen knife, and Prism was almost shattered when Blockbuster lost his balance and came close to falling on him. And in the lab, test tubes flew and tables rattled and hope was brought to one Charles Francis Xavier. And Sinister hit the alert button for the other members to get suited up and wait for orders.

<><><>******

Remy knew this was a long shot but it was the only thing he could do. Another shot was fired at the building... the hatch opened and Logan and Jewel took the twenty-foot jump with painful landings. The ship went higher and fired automatically. Logan and Jewel charged the building as Remy slipped in a side vent.. this wasn't going to be fun. By the time he made it to the vent overlooking Sinister's main lab the Marauders had assembled and where ready to attack. Xavier was behind Sinister. Why did God hate him? One question that seemed to pop into Remy's head repeatedly. He had to be careful he couldn't stare at any of them.. most of them by now in their line of work had developed a sixth-since that let them know someone was watching them. After a minute the door blew out and Wolverine and Jewel stand in the hole that had once been called a wall. He smiled to himself, least they had class. Then looked back to see how Xavier was doing again. Damit Sinister was still guarding him. Logan was shot and his body hit the wall with a thud, thankful he was up on his feet in no time fighting again like always. Jewel was doing okay but not good enough for Remy's liking. He didn't have a chose he had to act now. The other two couldn't hold off them forever and Sinister wasn't moving. 'Wasn't moving?' Remy looked back to were Sinister was standing, he looked into the man's eyes and in them he saw a bit of hidden surprised shock and he seemed almost warmed by it. Finally, Sinister felt Remy eyeing him and looked up to the vent.

"Remington." Sinister stated as he looked up to Remy's position and their eyes meet. Remy froze for a second. But then Sinister seem to come back to his old self. "Come now, Gambit. Would you let these friends die as well?" His mock attitude shinning through once again.

Remy's blood boiled at the comment. Kicking the grate off he jumped out and down the 15-foot drop. The grate landed a few seconds after. He looked between Sinister and Xavier knowing he had to choose which one to go after first. Lighting up his fist and a hand full of metal blades Remy inches his way to Xavier having to pass Sinister on his way. Sinister stood approximately 5 feet from them. "Don't make me." Sinister warned.

Remy stopped and looked up at Sinister. "Don't make you do what?" he growled. His eyes flaring. Remy stepped a foot closer to Sinister and a step away from Xavier.

"Hurt you or your sister."

A semi yell was released from Gambit's hand as he flung the cards at Sinister standing only a yard away from him. Sinister dodged the assault but did not counter attack. "How?" Remy growled once again. "How do you know who she is?" No reply came from Sinister and Remy couldn't see past his rage. Sinister had been keeping tabs on not only him but also his sister. "Tell me or so help me god I'll kill you."

"I'm your father." Sinister's voice didn't sound like Sinister's voice anymore; it had no hollowed echo and no spine chilling effect. He was a just a man, a man that seemed almost broken. His horse whisper sounding so real and believable. Remy shook his head trying to clear it, what had this man just said to him? His father? No, his father wasn't this.

"Liar!" Remy's fist moved over his head to a position so that he could hit Sinister square in the face. But as he looked down at Sinister.. no Nathaniel Esexx face he looked into the older man's eyes, deep into them and saw something he'd never really seen their emotion and the truth it held. That's when Remy realized it. If he hadn't seen that in this man's eyes at this moment he didn't think he'd believe it, but he did.. and he couldn't think of any fate worse then that. Slowly he backed off of Sinister's large frame and stood. And as Sinister did the same Remy collapsed to the floor. He didn't care anymore. No one had heard the confession and Gambit one-day might be relieved by that, later, but not now.
