Broken Hearts

Epilogue

>

It was one of the first hot days of the spring. Sun shone from the sky with incredible force making the people in black suits very uncomfortable and hot.

Rogue looked around. The trees were lined up in the alley from the X-Men cemetery. Many tombstones filled the ground and now she was standing over one.

There was almost no one there everyone had left, she could see Bobby standing few meters behind her staring of at the grave. After a while he left too. She was alone. She crunched beside the grave and looked at the new tombstone that said:

[Remy LeBau: 1974-1997, X-Man at heart and soul, he died saving one of his teammates. He will be remembered]

How much truth that was, Rogue thought. She hated this whole situation. First she broken up with Remy and had sex with Joseph. Then Remy dies saving her. She could see everyone was hating her for what happened. Most of it Storm. She was Remy's best friend, even better than Rogue had ever been. Now that Remy died saving the woman that broke his heart Storm blamed it all on her. Rogue wasn't really sure anymore if she was right or not. Part of her tried to forget everything and act as if nothing had happened but the part that still had morals wanted to scream, to cry to beg for forgiveness. For now she tried ignoring the moral part. She needed to do something with her life. If she kept going like that who knows who would end up dead next time. She didn't want to take the risk. Standing above Remy's grave for the last time she felt her eyes were filing with tears.

"Ah'm sorry Ah got ya inta this mess Remy. Ah don'' wan' it t' end like this. Maybe ya would live today if it wasn't for mah. Gawd how sorry Ah am. Forgive mah and goodbye." she said with tears in her eyes. She kissed the tips of her fingers and touched the tombstone. Then she turned around and walked back to the mansion not looking back at it even once. Joseph met her on the way holding her hand but she didn't notice. Guilt had finally reached her.

Rogue walked up the stairs of the mansion when she saw Belladonna. Her and all of Remy's family had come. Out of everyone Belle showed her hate for Rogue the most. Rogue could see in her eyes that if she could she would kill her. Rogue didn't even look at her when she walked past. Instead Belle talked to her.

"I knew you'd kill 'im." she spat through her teeth.

"Leave mah alone." Rogue said

"I don' think so you killed my husband !"

"I didn't kill anyone !" Rogue shouted

"You'll pay for it." said Belle while she threw herself at Rogue rage in her eyes. Rogue let go of Joseph's hand and punched Belle in the face just as she was to hit her. Belle was sent flying in the air and landed on the grass few meters back.

"You bitch first you kill him then you try to kill me ?" shouted Belladonna totally out of control now.

"Ah don' kill 'anyone !" shouted Rogue while she threw herself at Belladonna. Before she could touch her she felt she was being pulled back. "Let me go Joseph !" she shouted with rage. While Belle was getting up she saw the rest of X-Men ran over to the scene. They grabbed both women before each could do any more hurt. Scott came over and looked critically at Rogue.

"What happened here ?" he asked in a firm voice.

Rogue looked at him but didn't reply. Using the moment of distraction she pulled free from Joseph's hold and flew away before anyone could stop her.

Later...

Rogue looked out the window. It was night. Everyone had gone home now and most of them were probably asleep. She didn't talk to anyone about her fight with Belle, she locked herself in her room and thought over her life. She knew everyone including herself blamed her for Remy's death. She understood she would have to cope with that. Remy had died saving her and she would never forget that. After what she did to him she would have never thought he cared. She might have not loved him anymore but she still cared, and she hoped they could get along after some time. Guess she would never find out.

She decided she had to leave X-Men. She couldn't look any of them in the eye without remembering what had happened and some of them like Storm would never forgive her. Also it was time to move on. She had been with X-Men for two years and nothing good had happened. In the end they were all catastrophes. Maybe if she left and lived a normal life she would find peace at last. Maybe... She was going to go with Joseph. He was in love with her she knew it and she decided she would give him a chance. He did so much for her... Maybe some day she would find happiness in his arms. Maybe...

She was so deep in her thoughts she didn't notice that Joseph came in. His hair was let down his tie untied shirt pulled out. He was tired after the long hot day. Walking quietly he approached Rogue. He sat down behind her and embraced her. She squeezed his hand.

"Are you okay ?" he asked.

"Ah don' know Joe. All Ah know is that Ah wanna leave."

"Okay we'll go."

"Tomorrow."

"Okay. Don't worry everything will be fine."

"Yeah Ah know."

The next day...

Rogue looked at the X-Men farewelling her. Most of them were there. Except Storm and Bobby. They all seemed to be nice none of them mentioned anything about Gambit or Belladonna. They all hugged her wished her and Joseph luck but the tension could be cut with a chain saw. After brief good-byes Rogue and Joseph got into the car. Rogue looked at the mansion and the X-Men for the last time and she didn't regret her decision. She smiled weakly and looked at Joseph who was awaiting for her.

"We can go now sugah." she said.

Joseph started the car and rode away from the mansion. The X-Men stood on the steps with mixed feelings.

Storm stood in the attic looking out the window at Rogue and Joseph leaving. Rage had overcame her. Dark clouds filled the sky in mere seconds and a powerful storm roamed the air. Rain came pouring down like a whip making the ground wet and muddy in just minutes. The outline of the car began to fade in the rain. It got smaller and smaller until it was totally gone...

End.
