"The Huntress"
A posting by GM Stump Stumblebum, December 7, 1996

Is the Huntress Arkati? An interesting question. The Arkati, beings of pure spirit, have existed since the age of the Great Drakes in some form or another. There are some scholars who hold that apotheosis, as experienced by Voln and the Huntress, is actually a misnomer. It is possible that the mortal incarnations of the Huntress and Voln are no more, and their essences or personas have been replaced by the ever adaptable Arkati. After all, the Arkati include spirits large and small, specific and general, and what God seeking worship, would not love to step into a premade roll, complete with its own legend and followers? Thus, goes the theory, while the Huntress was not ALWAYS Arkati, she must certainly be so now. Whether that means that the true Huntress died, or that her "soul" blended with the spiritual energy of one or more Arkati to form the current incarnation, not even the sages of the mortals can speculate.

As for Lornon vs. Liabo, those who hold that the legends are literally true, attribute Lornon vs. Liabo status to the degree of fealty shown to the King of the Gods Koar. Those who swear allegence to Koar are of the Light Gods. Those who challenge his authority in one form or another are the Dark Gods. Charl swears fealty to Koar, if not slavish servitude, hence he is a God of Light.

There are others who hold that the Gods of Light embody positive and wholesome virtues of the sort most often the subject of active worship, while the Gods of Darkness embody the baser animalistic characteristics of mortals and the emotions that are not always welcome.

Then there are those who say that big bugs and murder are nasty and evil, and that's that.

Ivas
"The Dancer"
Goddess of Seduction
Name: Ivas
Ancient Name: Inis
Epithet: "The Dancer"
Pantheon: Lornon
Tier: Greater Goddess
Realm: Goddess of Seduction.
Dominion: Lust, jealousy, seduction, unbridled desire, passion, domination.
Relations: Lover of many.
Rivals: Tilamaire
Symbol: A stylized green wisp of smoke on a field of red.
Shrine: IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of the Wounded Heart.
Appearance: Possessing a pair of tentacles where most humanoid beings have arms, and with full, sensuous lips hiding a maw filled with shark's teeth, Ivas cloaks herself in illusion. She appears to the unwary as a woman of unearthly beauty, four-armed, with fair skin, green eyes, blonde hair, and is very voluptious and seductive.
Demeanor: Insatiable, lustful, passionate.

Preying on those willing to be seduced, preferring those that cannot control their impulses, Ivas thrives on the jealousy, distrust, and hatred that results. She has the power to enslave mortals utterly, and often creates havoc among them by using the violence brought about by lust and jealousy. Often times marked by rotting diseases that defy all cures, her adherents form cults which revel in perverted carnal pleasures. However, their primary goal is the seduction of unwary outsiders. Ivas is allied with Mularos.

Luukos
"The Soul Taker"
God of Unending Death
Name: Luukos
Ancient Name: Klysus
Epithet: "The Soul-Taker"
Pantheon: Lornon
Tier: Greater God.
Realm: God of unending death.
Dominion: Unending death, lies.
Relations: None.
Rivals: Lorminstra
Symbol: A green serpent on a brown field.
Shrine: Underground Ruins, IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of the Holy Struggle.
Appearance: Very tall, muscular and dark-complexioned with skin of a metallic-bronze hue, and dressed in a long, white pleated tunic, Luukos has disturbingly reptilian features, with his large almond shaped eyes, slitted pupils, and a forked tongue concealing sharp fangs. He speaks with a hissing lisp. His alternate form is a huge winged snake with a frilled collar.
Demeanor: Persuasive, treacherous, sadistic.

Luukos is the God of Unending Death. Unlike Lorminstra, Luukos shows no reverence for the souls of those who have died. The Gates of Oblivion are Lorminstra's way to keep the souls of the dead from Luukos, who would otherwise consume and destroy them, vampirishly drinking their blood and tormenting their souls. Luukos' sustains himself on the blood of the dead, and the souls he takes from those recently fallen. These unfortunate, tortured souls serve one of two of Luukos' hideous purposes; either to animate one of his undead minions in his efforts to extend his power, or as his food source.

Survivors of large-scale battles have reported the sighting of Luukos in the form of a large green serpent, which slithers from corpse to corpse on the abandoned scene of carnage.

Luukos' is able to claim the souls not only of those he takes by force through his undead minions, but also of those who have sullied themselves in life. Thus, Luukos' is also the Lord of Lies, and his minions always seek to spread misinformation among mortals. Legend holds that Luukos' can snatch the soul of one who has died with a lie on their lips even from Lorminstra, and that the only way to be free from his hideous jaws is to renounce the lie.

Blades on Luukos
from Mustafo's Interviews with the Elders

Blades says, "Well I like trying to be a religious leader to my god as best I can I suppose"
Mustafo rubs his chin thoughtfully.
Mustafo asks, "you are religious?"
Blades grins.
Blades says, "not in a sense that most like"
Mustafo says, "thats a shocker"
Blades traces the lines of his symbol of Luukos.
Mustafo says, "ahhhh"
Mustafo says, "ok i can understand that now"
Mustafo asks, "and you are, im sure, one of his favorite deciples?"
Blades says, "Aye, he has spoken with me many a times, usually we get interupted and someone dies"
Mustafo grins.
Mustafo says, "so your relationship with Luukos is sorta of a personal thing with ya"
Blades says, "I work for him for my own reasons"
Mustafo nods.
Blades says, "I do not work for him to slay the innocent but to condemn the guilty"
Mustafo asks, "who determins guilt?"
Blades says, "a murderer, a thief...Those souls do not deserve saving"
Mustafo says, "i can appreciate that"
Mustafo nods.
Mustafo asks, "Do you have any goals left that you have not reached yet?"
Blades says, "My goals i have left, well World Domination for one, but I also want Luukos to be seen for what he is, but not what people think he is"
Mustafo asks, "in your opinion, what is Luukos?"
Blades says, "A warden"
Blades grins.
Blades says, "for a huge prison"
Mustafo grins.
Mustafo asks, "what do you think people think he is?"
Blades says, "The prince of evil"
Blades chuckles.
Mustafo chuckles.
Mustafo says, "true"
Blades says, "He punishes those who hurt others in life"
Mustafo asks, "hurting you mean without reason?"
Blades says, "aye"

Marlu
"The Demon Lord"
Name: Marlu
Ancient Name: Morgu
Epithet: "The Dark Lord"
Pantheon: Lornon
Tier: Greater God, Dark Spirits.
Realm: Patron of Vruul, destruction, power, the dominic.
Dominion: Demonic Summoning, Destruction, Power.
Relations: N/A
Rivals: N/A
Symbol: A black six tentacled 'star' on a field of grey.
Shrine: Darkstone Castle, IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of Beyond.
Appearance: Marlu is a demon-like hideously gruesome creature with glistening black skin, fanged tentacles, leathery wings, large luminous green eyes, and large red claws.
Demeanor: Demonic.

Often mistaken for one of the greater demons and frequently called the Demon Lord, Marlu delights in death, destruction, and the devouring of still-living prey. He is exceedingly cruel, with no sympathy or feelings for anyone or anything, favoring none. Tales tell of Marlu being seen around ancient ruins, prying open old chambers and delving into all manner of spaces. Common legend has it that he seeks others of his kind to loose upon the innocents of Elanthia.

Just as some believe Koar is actually the last Drake, there are those who hold that Marlu is a true Ur-Daemon who sought asylum with the Arkati when the rest of his kind were killed or driven out of this realm of existence.

Marlu gains power through demonic summoning, which is one of the reasons this practice is frowned upon by worshippers of the Liabo. It is unknown whether his power is derived in the same way as other Arkati, or comes from the shredding and loosening of the portals between dimensions.

Drawn to all manner of destruction, Marlu, more than any other of the Dark Gods seems intent on destruction on a scale of such catastrophic proportions that the world and all of its worshippers would be eliminated as a result. While Eorgina personifies power over others, Marlu is pure personal destructive power incarnate.

Mularos
"He Who is the Sorrow of the World"
God of Suffering
Name: Mularos
Ancient Name: Molaris
Epithet: "He Who is the Sorrow of the World"
Pantheon: Lornon
Tier: Greater God
Realm: God of pleasure and pain, dominance, suffering
Dominion: Suffering, torture, pleasure and pain, dominance.
Relations: N/A
Rivals: N/A
Symbol: A heart with a dagger piercing it on a field of white.
Shrine: Tower in Hobgoblin Land, IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of the Wounded Heart.
Appearance: Like other gods of Lornon, Mularos will assume male or female form to seduce mortals. Appearing as a very handsome, young man, with captivating blue eyes, blond hair, and delicate features, and dressed in simple silk robes, in female form he is equally beautiful. Often a slight glimpse of the scars left by manacles can be seen at the hem of his robe, or the bloody mark of a lash below the collar.
Demeanor: Charming, sado-masochistic, sad.

Known as "He who is the Sorrow of the World," the twisted Mularos is the God of Suffering, both physical and emotional. He draws the most strength from pain inflicted by others. He seduces mortals for enslavement and abuses them in a perversion of love, leaving them bloody and battered. His followers and slaves do not last long, for they'll kill each other for the opportunity to be with him.

Not generally worshipped by any formal "church", cults of a sado-masochistic nature have surfaced on occasion, most often headed by twisted, charismatic leaders who seduce young followers with a decadent and reassuring life-style, and then bend their minds to dependent love and strict obedience. While the usual end result is mass suicide, it is rumored that there are such cults that have lasted for centuries.

At times Mularos seems to revel in causing pain, but he feels the pain of mortals at the same time that he draws strength from it. In a sense, he is a victim of mortals as much as they are victims of him.

Onar
"The Assassin of the Gods"
Name: Onar
Ancient Name: Omir
Epithet: "The Assassin"
Pantheon: Lornon
Tier: Lesser God (Dark Spirit)
Realm: Patron of assassins
Dominion: Homicide
Relations: N/A
Rivals: N/A
Symbol: A broken white skull on a field of black.
Shrine: Coastal Cliffs, IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of Death Bringers.
Appearance: Onar's true face is unknown. He acts almost exclusively through the hand of others. Thought to be thirty-something with grey eyes, black hair and a slight build, with varying dress.
Demeanor: Cold-blooded, emotionless, but acts friendly.

Known as the Assassin of the Gods, Onar is not malevolent nor does he seek power. He is a cold, calculating, professional killer who sees to the permanent elimination of those the gods of Lornon find especially troublesome, most often at the behest of Eurogina. Rarely does he kill without reason, and despite his cool, calculating manner is generally found to be relaxed and friendly in his confidence.

Onar also serves the other Gods, but always at a price. What coin can pay a God is not for mortals to guess at, but the Dark Gods seem to use his services regularly against mortals who cross them. In many courts of law, possession by Onar is a defense to a charge of murder. Such possession can usually be detected by the presence of a skull marking somewhere on the body of the one possessed.

Shrine:Shore of Dreams, IceMule Trace Temple - Hall of the Dark.
Appearance: Sheru appears as a large man with shining yellow eyes and a black furred jackal's head. Merely glancing at him in true form has left many mortals babbling insanely for the rest of their brief survival.
Demeanor: Cold, emotionless, cruel.

Sheru is the God of Night and Nightmares. Truly the god of terror, and of unbridled fear, Sheru thrives on these emotions in lesser creatures. The insane are often said to have received Sheru's Gift. Only experiencing satisfaction when his efforts unseat a being's sanity, Sheru will use any means to achieve this end.

Luukos' undead minions tend to cause more terror than most of the other minions of darkness, and so Sheru and Luukos are allied more often than any of the other Dark Gods. He is frequently at odds with Ronan, who's realm is the night.

Demeanor: Determined, righteous, obsessive, vengeful.

Bloodletting and carnage for its own sake is the single-minded goal of V'tull, Champion of the Dark Gods. So enamoured is he with bloodllust that the sight of a creatures life's blood draining away fills him with ecstasy.

God of Warfare, obsessive and vengeful, V'tull has spent all of his energies in perfecting his fighting abilities and in using them at every opportunity. His weapon is simply named "The Slayer".

V'tull, unlike almost all of the other gods who rarely show themselves among mortals, regularly enters into the bodies of warriors, who's eyes are said to turn black as night when this happens, and turns them into machines of killing. Because of V'tull's willingness to divinely inspire, his followers among fighters are many, even where his worship is forbidden by those who fear their warriors will turn against him.
