Dark
daggers appear as a jet black dagger forged from adamantium. They are longer
than a normal daggers but look pretty much like any other Drow forged dagger.
The one exception is this at the end of the hilt, it is capped with
a skull wearing a half-mask that covers the eyes and goes over the top
and around the base of the skull. One important note is that the dagger
is invisible to all except the intended wielder and those faithful to Vhaeraun.
They reflect no light and make no metallic ringing sound during melee.
These
daggers exist totally on the whim of Vhaeraun. The only way one can find
one is if they are in dire striates with the clergy of Lloth. Examples
of this include the following: a priest of Vhaeraun awaiting execution/
sacrifice for heresy against Llolh, a thief in jail or other such dilemma,
a dissatisfied male imprisoned by thewrath of some Matron Mother. These
aren't the only reasons but for whatever the reason is two things must
be an issue. One the person in question should be a potential follower
for Vhaeraun or two, they thwart the minions of Lloth in some way.
How this dagger is acquired is by the
chosen person finding it near him when needed, awaken in a dungeon and
it lying there is a typical way. It should be noted that Vhaeraun has gotten
many followers by this act of mercy, for it allows one a means of escape
if they are good enough. The most important fact of these daggers is this:
They are for all extensive purposes an Avatar of Vhaeraun and he is limited
to the number of these in existence at one time by the number of Avatars
he my have. Also once the peson is out of danger, the daggers are gone.
They ARE NOT intended to be kept by
the individual.
Characters should only be given this
dagger when they find themselves in one of the situations mentioned above
AND when they are stripped of all arms, armor, and possessions.
All
people who have received this boon (Drow and Half-Drow mostly) have by
some qwerk of fate have come together. They have formed a merchants guild
known as "The Dark Dagger". Its members are made up by all classes and
work to further the aims of Vhaeraun both in the underdark and on the surface.
This guild is strongest in "Skullport"
Damage
* Long Dagger of Speed
* base damage 1d4/ 1d4+1 .
* +2/ +5 vs. minions of Lloth.
* Priestesses of Lloth take double damage.
* First strike each round of melee.
The invisible nature of the dagger allows
an initial surprise attack: +4 to hit:
x2 damage. This is added to any
other modifiers. One per opponent for the surprise is lost.
Defense
* Cloaks the character with the favor
of Vhaeraun. This gives wielder base armor class of 5, the ability to hide
in shadows and move silently both at a base 50% adjust for race, DEX, etc.,
and protects the wielder with "Proof against detection and location".
* Missile Parry: If wielder rolls their
THAC0, (with modifiers based on DEX/ reaction adjustment) they knock it
out of the air. This can be done to all missiles the character can see.
*Blade Bend: If wielder rolls their
THAC0, (with modifiers based on STR/ to hit bonus) the attackers weapon
is turned upon them and they take full damage. This can be done once an
encounter.
Other
* "Knock" at will,
* "Detect traps" at will
* The blade can cut webs or any other
bindings on contact.
* The wielder can use their innate spell
abilities at will. If the chosen is not
a Drow, they are temporally granted
them.
For spell abilities use characters level
for spell level.
Upon the first touch of the weapon,
the chosen one is healed of all ailments. They are restored to their normal
healthy selves
