These are extremely well crafted blades of awesome power. They are made from an alloy of red abyssal steel and adamantine. The blades are a dull grainy hue of mottled black. It reflects light in slightly red flashes. This gives the appearance of having fresh blood coated on the blade The hilt sports a exquisitely faceted black sapphire. The pommel is inlayed with scores of tiny, intricately faceted jet stones. The cross-piece is forged of pure adamantine. Where the cross-piece, pommel, and blade meet is a octagonal shaped plate of mithril, inlayed with a ruby cut into the likeness of a spider..

These weapons where originally forged in the Demon-Web Pits. These pits are Lloth’s realm which span a few abyssal layers. They are created by a joint effort of petitioners and the yochols. The petitioners are the spirits of Drow who have died in the service of Lloth. In life they were weapon-smiths and now their spirits continue their work in the after-life. They forged the weapons, then the yochols imbued them with power with their Lloth given magic. They only made a set number of these weapons, then released them on the prime material worlds where Lloth has worshippers. The only beings that may wield them are spider knights  female anti-paladins in service to Lloth (detailed in full in the clan section). The only way to acquire one of these is by finding one in some lost crypt or ancient hoard (rarely) or by slaying a spider knight who possesses one (commonly). Each sword has its own name and its powers increase with each new knight that wields it.

They are wielded by the Spider Knights

The following powers are the swords base power:
* +1 weapon.
* Double damage against drow of deities other than Lloth.
* Triple damage against surface elves and fairies.
These weapons sport an edge so sharp, the base damage dice is increased
by a d2. For instance a short sword would go from a base 1d6 / 1d8 to a
base 1d8 / 1d10 for damage, a long sword would increase from a
base 1d8 / 1d12 to a  base 1d10 / 2d6+2 etc.
* Protection from good 10ft. radius..
* Dispel magic at level equal to the wielder.
* Protects as if wielder was wearing a "ring of free action".

Individual Powers
As mentioned before these holy swords gain a new power each time there
is a new owner. The DM must decide for themselves the exact history of
any particular sword, how many previous owners there were, and what powers the sword currently possesses. You may pick or roll from the
table below:

1-25-an additional +1 bonus to a maximum of +6
26-50-the ability to cast a spell once a day (roll as if a scroll was found)
51-55-the ability to spider climb at will
56-60-can cast a strength spell on the wielder thrice a day
61-65-the ability to jump at will
66-70-the ability to fly thrice a day
71-75-the ability to see in magical darkness
76-79-stores priest spells as a "Ring of Spell Storing"
80-84-the ability to invoke a blinding strike ( doubles # of attacks in a round for 1 round) 1/ day
85-89-grants a +1 to saving throws and a -1 per damage dice
90-91-sword gains the abilities of a "Defender" sword
92-93-sword gains the abilities of a "Scimitar of Speed"
94-95-sword gains the abilities of a " Sword of Life Draining"
96-97-sword gains the abilities of a " Sword of Wounding"
98 -sword gains the abilities of a "Sword of  Sharpness"
99 -sword gains the power of a ring (roll from ring list in DMG)
00 -sword gains the power of a wand (roll from wand list in DMG)

This is an example of what the swords are capable of. The table is an example of the one I use. Individual DM’s should  change or add things as they see fit. These sword are extremely rare and a major quest should be involved for the acquisition of one, not to mention the challenge of slaying the knight who owns it. A DM must consider the effect of game play before allowing a
P.C. to own one.
