This
thin silvery band worn around the forehead holds a peculiar enchantment.
It allows the wearer to become dim.
Currently,
the circlet is in the possession of the Muk goblin tribe.
The
metal of the band is a blending of mithril and adamantite, combined in
an explosion of great heat. This metal was found, shaped and enchanted
by an unknown elf of a forgotten branch. It was lost to him somewhere in
the Underdark, and has slipped through many wearer's hands since then.
When
the circlet is worn, the body heat of its possessor is reduced by fifty
percent, making attempts to view the person with infravision reveal nothing
more than a cooling heat print. Shadows cover the wearer more easily, and
flashing ornaments are dulled. In AD&D, this would give a bonus of
twenty five percent to hide in shadows, in other game systems, DMs should
use their own discretion. People who are not actively searching for the
wearer of the circlet have a hard time noticing them. Some kind of alertness,
perception, or intelligence check should be made in order to notice the
dim person. Dim does not mean invisible or intangible, however. If one
is stupid enough to stand in the middle of a well lit room and expect to
not be seen by the thirty goblins with clubs, that person is in for a nasty
suprise.
The
circlet (not the wearer) is invulnerable to fire.
