Malgazoth
is a truly evil scimitar. It has a brilliantly
shining mithril blade eched with fell
runes of onyx.
In the tongue of ta' nari, it says "For
the souls that I may devour,
so too shall I devour you".
This is a challenge to all who meet
the wielder of
Malgazoth in battle. Malgazoth's hilt-piece
is a solid chunk
of ruby that has been carved into a
hilt.
Inside the hilt, there is always a number
of tiny scampering
lights that make the hilt glow. These
lights are
the souls that have been captured by
this evil blade.
All
that is known about Malgazoth is that it was made
by ta' nari and was brought to Toril
when a particularly
deadly balor marched out of the Abyss
with an army of
demons behind him. In a battle with
the Harpers,
the demons were pushed back into
the abyss, and the balor was banished,
but not before Malgazoth
was spirited away by one of the balor's
henchmen.
The scimitar is now in the hands of
a drow clone that
was created when Chazmyr Arabani, a
good drow of Shadowdale,
slipped on a Ring of ID, which promptly
chopped off his finger,
which in turn became the clone of Chazmyr.
It is now biding its time to cause Chazmyr
much pain
and suffering for its existence.
Malgazoth
is a scimitar +2, +4 vs. good-aligned creatures.
On an unmodified roll of 18, 19, or
20, assuming the blow hit,
unless the victim rolls a savings throw
vs. death magic,
Malgazoth transfers the damage done
to an opponent
to the wielder of the blade. Any excess
hit points dissipate
after 1 turn. If the victim is given
a deathblow,
Malgazoth sucks in his or her soul,
and
what is left is a husk of a body that
cannot be resurrected,
even with a wish spell. Malgazoth is
Chaotic Evil, INT 12 EGO 10,
with telepathy, detect good 60' radius,
improved
invisibility 2/day upon wielder for
10 rounds.
Only evil characters may wield it. Anyone
else will take
6d6 of fire damage and save vs. death
magic or be drained
for 1 level.
