Shard
is a beautiful throwing dagger. It has a thin
crystal blade that is reminiscent of
a stilleto more than a dagger.
The hilt is solid gold, with a pommel-piece
that is a valuable emerald.
The whole dagger is only 6" long.
Shard
has had a colorful history, though where it came
from is anyone's guess. It was first
found by the elven
mage/thief Mirialanna of Qualinost from
the world of Krynn.
She ended up on a spelljammer ship which
brought her to
Faerun on Toril, where she lost Shard
in a dungeon to a
deep dragon. Later, Shard turned up
in the hands of
Vendora Silkendove, the elven ranger
of Daggerford.
She used it for a number of years, but
eventually lost it in a
dungeon while fleeing a greater medusa.
Somehow,
years later, Shard made it into the hands of a
thief who took up shop in a small town
called Tresserhorn,
where the occupants were worshipping
a green dragon.
The townsfolk were luring in travelers
to feed to the dragon,
and one such traveler was Chazmyr Arabani,
a recent fugitive drow of Menzoberranzan,
and his companion,
Xune Kilsek, the Shadowdale drow priestess
of Eilistraee.
They successfully defeated the dragon,
and then teh townsfolk
(with the help of a dwarven fighter
and a human witch),
and Chazmyr found Shard on the body
of the thief,
and kept it for his own.
Of
course, Chazmyr could not
seem to hold on to Shard either. He
lost it to an evil mercenary captain and his group when they kidnapped
Xune in order to
get Chazmyr to retrieve a magical cloak
from some ruins near Myth Drannor. It is now believed that Shard is in
the possession
of the mercenary captain, but with Shard's
seeming inclination to get lost or exchange masters, this situation is
by no means
permanent.
Shard
is a returning dagger of
throwing +4. Thus, in melee, Shard does
normal damage
plus its magic bonus, but as a missile
weapon, Shard does double
damage plus its magic bonus. Also, Shard
will return to its
owner at the start of the next round.
Shard also has the
ability to cut through stone like a
knife through butter.
