Orthae
Abban is a magnificently crafted bastard sword.
It consists of a thin blade made of
mithril and etched
with runes filled with a powder of crushed
pearls.
The hilt and grip is also of mithril.
The hilt is of the form of the symbol of Eilistraee (a moon with a sword
superimposed over it,
and a nimbus of filigrees around the
moon,
to signify Eilistraee's hair). The moon
is made of ivory, the rest of mithril.
The handle is wrapped in a black velvet
grip with
silver wire to hold it in place. The
pommel has a
single round gem affixed to it, a perfect
spherical diamond.
Xune
Kilsek, a fighter/priestess of Eilistraee in the Dalelands,
created Orthae Abban when she received
a vision of the
sword in her sleep. Becoming so obsessed
with the sword,
Xune left a current adventure to return
home (outside Shadowdale)
to craft it.
It
took her a month, but in the end, she had a well
crafted bastard sword of great beauty.
When she thrust
it into the ground and asked for Eilistraee's
blessing,
as all followers of the Dark Maiden
do, the diamond and
runes burst forth into a brilliant
silvery-white glow, signifying Eilistraee's
pleasure.
Xune
has wielded Orthae Abban since then (3 years ago).
All priestesses of Eilistraee recognize
her as a blesses individual,
and respect her as such. Xune knows
that she has been given
Orthae Abban as a powerful tool against
Lolth and her minions.
She also knows that she must use it
to protect Chazmyr Arabani,
a crown prince of House Arabani before
it was destroyed
by a rival house and he was forced to
flee.
Eilistraee
has plans for Chazmyr, though they have not
come to fruition yet. Orthae Abban is
tied into his destiny,
and through it, so is Xune's.
Currently,
Chazmyr is tearing across the Realms searching
for Xune, who has been kidnapped by
a powerful mercenary
company. Without any one to wield it,
Orthae Abban lies
thrust into the ground in a sacred grove
near Xune's wooded
home in Shadowdale. The grove is blessed
by Eilistraee,
and a common gathering place for her
priestesses,
though none will touch the sword.
Orthae
Abban is a bastard sword +2/+4 vs. evil-aligned creatures,
doing double damage to demons, devils,
and other abyssal
creatures. Only females may wield the
sword,
for a male cannot pick the sword up,
no matter how
strong he is. Even if handed the sword,
a male will be pulled
down as the sword falls to the ground.
On
the other hand, only priestesses of Eilistraee can wield
Orthae Abban to its full potential.
If in the possession of a
priestess of Eilistraee, the runes and
the diamond will glow a
silver-white light that illuminates
as a light spell.
In the hands of any other female, there
will be no glowing
of any kind and Orthae Abban will become
dormant,
acting as a normal bastard sword.
The
power of Orthae Abban is single and great:
it confers upon the wielder all the
abilities of a drow
of equal level. These include spell-like
abilities, magic resistance,
and bonuses to saving throws. It does
not matter if the wielder is drow, human, elf, etc. (this assumes that
the drow in question has lost all her drowish abilities when coming to
the surface world, otherwise, there
is no gain in current abilities).
