Long
ago during the Crown Wars a branch of drow now called the Kara'tur Drow(about
500) had distanced themselves from the Ilythiiri out of cowardice. They
were labeled as traitors to the Ilythiiri and were forced into a nomadic
life style. With the Ilythiiri and the fair elven races at their backs
they were driven to the corners of faerun. There only ally was the inhospitable
landscapes that were impossible to navigate for the armies of the fair
elves and the Ilythiiri. The majority of this Kara'tur Drow and the only
ones remaining living dwelt in the great swamp of Rethild.(East of Halruaa)
There they battled tribes of lizard men, hordes of trolls, and other inhabitants.
On the brink of extinction only after 70 years of their flight to the swamp,
they fought yet another enemy: House Y'lathai, a crusading house led by
powerful clerics and the even more powerful Dra'deth, the general and weaponmaster
of House Y'lathai. Dra'deth and a strike force of 50 elite drow warrios
were ordered into the swamp by their clerics never ending struggle for
power through the favor of Lloth. Unforutnatly for Dra'deth and his men
the Kara'tur drow, through unknown. but slow and subtle beginnings, eventually
hosted the incurable disease of vampirism. Dra'deth and his men faced hardships
in the swamp and after about 20 of them still alive they came upon the
crude Kara'tur settlement and charged only to be slaughtered and mutilated
by the savegry of the Kara'tur. The Kara'tur fed on all of the soldiers,
frugally licking up the blood that had even fallen on the ground and the
blood that tainted their cloths and weapons. Assimilated completly, the
soldiers of House Y'lathai couldn't help but see the situation the
Kara'tur way, partially driven by their strong lust for blood. Dra'deth
had risen like the rest of his kin, but refused to forsake his house and
Lloth. He ran through the the swamp for days on end not resting, not even
feeding like vampires should.
Near the edge of the swamp Dra'deth collapsed from not drinking the blood he required. Lloth, the whole time viewing this failure, decided to let Dra'deth claim vengeance on these people who turned his army into an army of vampires and assimiltated them into the Kara'tur Drow. Not likeing failure though, Lloth kill Dra'deth's house by the way she always does her dirty work. The new enraged Dra'deth, but he knew better than to speak it or think about it. Lloth admired his discipline, and intelligence for a male, and through a long process she made him a demigod. Dra'deth now is known as Sanguinai Sengarey(Vampiric Lord)and rules the Kara'tur out of fear. The Kara'tur Drow became a twisted version of the present day drow because of the influence of Sanguinai Sengarey. They now live underneath the swamp, carving their homes in dirt, bog, and the roots of the massive trees instead of stone. The Kara'tur have a green tint to their onyx skin, with sharp irretractable fangs and Black, darker shaded hair. Spiders are despised by everyone, but under the demands of sanguinai sengarey are to be unharmed and considered sacred. Sanguinai Sengarey resides in the Demonweb pits, and occaisionally comes to the swamp to punish heretics of his faith. The Kara'tur make clerics solely to be on his good side and prevent his wrath, breeding a fanatical faith., They celebrate holidays under different names as Lloth does, but celebrate a few more. One such is on the Winter Solstice every 3 years when the Vampires collectivly leave their forest, with the spell like ability to levitate for an extended period of time, and raid a city of humanoids to feed on, but deny the humanoids the life of the vampire through body desecration. This day is know as Kreneth or The High Time in Common. Ceremonies involve long, bloody sacrifices of their enemies, in the heart of the swamp. Blood is also savored and they brew special types of drinks made with blood of various races, and mixed with wine, swamp water, slime, and other horrible things. The blood wine is drunk on all the holidays and sacrifices except on Hightime, The God is relativly obscure so he has no enemies with the exception of perhaps one or two lesser dieties who are furious over the Hightime aftermath. The Demigod's only friend(if you would call her that) is Lloth. He is unfamiliar with the other drow dieties, and is isolated from everything in the demonweb pits. |
