The Dominion War Timeline

Here you will find information and images on the Dominion War and previous incidents involving the Dominion.

The Dominion was first encountered in 2370, on an alien planet in the Gamma Quadrant. Captain Benjamin Sisko was the first Starfleet officer to come in contact the Dominion. He did so while on a camping trip with his son Jake, Quark, and Nog. During the trip, both Sisko and Quark were captured. The two were held prisoner by the Dominion.

A Jem'Hadar warship appeared at space station Deep Space Nine to inform the crew that their commander had been taken prisoner. Starfleet dispatched the U.S.S. Odyssey, a Galaxy - Class starship, to investigate the Dominion threat. The Odyssey was accompanied by a handful of Starfleet runabouts. After they passed through the wormhole, the small fleet was attacked by an armada of Dominion vessels. Suddenly, one of the Jem' Hadar vessels rammed the Odyssey. The collision destroyed both vessels. This served as an example of what the Dominion was willing to do to keep the Federation out of the Gamma Quadrant.

Jake and Nog were rescued by Chief Miles O'Brien. Sisko and Quark escaped the Dominion prison, with the help of an alien woman. After the three got back to DS9, Quark discovered that the woman, whose name was Eris, was a Dominion spy. "You have no idea what's begun here." the woman said, before mysteriously disappearing.

Shortly after Starfleet's first encounter with the Dominion, they equipped Deep Space Nine with a small but powerful new warship, called the U.S.S. Defiant. The Defiant was equipped with a cloaking device. The cloaking device was lent to Starfleet by the Romulans, in return for tactical information on the Dominion. Sisko and his crew, accompanied by a Romulan representative, lead a mission into the Gamma Quadrant. While on the mission, Dax and O1Brien were captured and the Defiant was severely damaged. All but Odo and Kira were captured by the Jem'Hadar. They had reached an escape pod, and were flying through space. Odo then piloted the shuttle into a remote solar system inside a nebula. He landed the shuttle on the surface and the two explored the surface. As Odo stepped out of the trees, he saw an ocean full of shape shifters like himself. He had found his people, but at the same time he had found the ruthless leaders of the Dominion.

Over the next few days, Odo spent a lot of time with his people. While Odo was away, Kira discovered a door. She knew that shape shifters had no need for doors, so she summoned Odo. When they broke inside, they found the entire crew of the Defiant in stasis tube devices. They discovered that the Dominion had placed the crew inside a holo - world in order to learn what they would be willing to give up in order to keep the Dominion out of the Alpha Quadrant. The crew was revived and Odo decided to return to Deep Space Nine.

Later that year, the Romulan Tal Shiar and the Cardassian Obsidian Order, compiled a fleet of ships with cloaking devices. They piloted the ships through the wormhole. Before they did that, they captured a Federation runabout. On that runabout, they found Odo and Garak. Garak was persuaded by his former leader, Enabrin Tain, to join the attack. Garak agreed to join so he could be among his people once again. Once Sisko and his crew learned of the attack, they took the Defiant to stop it. The Romulan/Cardassian fleet attacked the planet on which the Founders lived. It was then discovered that it was a trap, and the planet was abandoned. The Founders had infiltrated the Tal Shiar and Obsidian Order and sent the attack into action. Moments later, a huge fleet of Dominion vessels attacked and decimated the Romulan/Cardassian fleet. Odo and Garak were the only survivors, or so they thought.

Some time after the attack, Odo was changed into a Human by his people. This was his punishment for being the only Founder to harm another. He was changed back into a shape shifter a couple of months later. While he was Human, he discovered that Gowron, the leader of the Klingon High Council, was a Changeling. Sisko and his crew lead a secret mission to uncover Gowron. When they arrived on the Klingon Homeworld, they discovered that General Martok was the Changeling, not Gowron. They uncovered Martok and he was killed.

Later that year, Dr. Julian Bashir was taken prisoner by the Dominion on his way to a medical conference. He was held for five weeks in a Dominion prison camp. Other people that were held included the real General Martok and Enabrin Tain. Bashir was replaced with a Changeling. The Changeling almost succeeded in wiping out half of the Romulan, Klingon, and Bajoran fleets. However, the crew of the U.S.S. Defiant stopped the changeling. Meanwhile, Dr. Bashir and General Gowron were rescued by Garak and Worf. Tain died shortly after Garak arrived. It was then that Bashir discovered that Tain was Garak's father.

While all of this was going on, Gul Dukat announced that the Cardassians were joining the Dominion, and fleets of Jem' Hadar vessels started to enter the Alpha Quadrant. After five fleets of Dominion vessels had come through, Sisko decided that he had had enough. He mined the wormhole entrance. When he refused to remove the mines, the Dominion attacked DS9. Although they took heavy losses, they managed to capture the station.

Over the next three months, the Federation started to crumble. The 7th fleet was all but destroyed, and the Dominion fleet yards were operating at full capacity. Sisko then managed to convince Starfleet to pull together their ships and retake DS9. Starfleet agreed and Sisko led the fleet to DS9. On their way, they were intercepted by an even larger Dominion fleet. Just as things started to look grim, the Klingons came out of nowhere and destroyed a large number of Dominion ships. The Defiant broke through the enemy lines and headed for DS9. When they reached the station, they were too late. They entered the wormhole just as the Dominion fleet did. All of a sudden, Sisko was whisked away by the Bajoran prophets. They agreed to destroy the fleet in order to protect Bajor. The Dominion abandoned DS9 and retreated back to Cardassian space.

Over the next few months, things started to go badly for the Federation, again. In a surprise attack, the Dominion captured the planet Betazed and all of its colonies. Knowing that they needed another ally, Sisko tried to draw the Romulans into the war. He succeeded with the help of Garak, but it cost the lives of a Romulan senator and his guards. The Romulans quickly destroyed 15 Dominion outposts, and the Federation started to regain the ground it had lost.

Weeks after the Romulans joined the war, Admiral Ross payed a visit to DS9. It was then that he informed Sisko that he would be the leader during the attack on Cardassia. Sisko convinced the Romulans to join the fleet and, along with the Klingons, they headed for the abandoned Chin'toka system. When they arrived, they found orbital weapons. They destroyed as many as they could, but they were suddenly activated. Then a small group of Jem'Hadar vessels rammed the Klingon fleet. They took heavy losses. As more and more Federation ships were disabled and destroyed, O'Brien and Garak found a way to disable the weapons. When Sisko became disoriented, Kira took control. O'Brien made the weapons think that the control station was a Federation starship. The devices turned on the control station and destroyed it. The remaining ships proceeded to destroy the weapons. The Klingon and Romulan fleets headed for the planet and sent down ground troops. The Federation fleet joined them, but the Defiant warped back to DS9 at maximum warp. When they arrived, they found out that Jadzia was near death. They also discovered that Gul Dukat had destroyed the wormhole. He was also the one who caused Jadzia's death. Worf and Sisko quickly rushed to her side as she died. Bashir was able to save the Dax symbiont, and he rushed it to Trill. Everyone on the station mourned. Sisko, under tremendous pressure, thought desperately of a way to restore the wormhole, which Dukat had destroyed. He was also feeling the grief of Jadzia's death. He then decided that he needed to get away. He went to Earth with Jake, and worked in his father's restaurnant.

Back on DS9, Kira realized that Sisko might never be coming back. She gazed at his desk and saw that he had taken his baseball with him.

Three months passed since the Battle of Chin'toka and the destruction of the wormhole. The Federation managed to hold the Chin'toka system, but they continued to lose ground to the Dominion. With the war going well for the Dominion, the Federation/Klingon fleets launched a desparate attempt to destroy the Dominion fleetyards on Monarch. Their efforts failed. While this battle was taking place, a Dominion fleet attempted to retake Chin'toka. The Romulans managed to hold them off, but not withought taking heavy losses.

Meanwhile, the Romulans secretly smuggled 7,000 torpedoes to a Bajoran moon, where they stored them for future use. The Bajorans weren't to thrilled about this, and they proceeded to set up a blockade to prevent any more torpedoes to reach the moon's surface. The Dominion soon found out about the tension between the Romulans and the Federation, they had high hopes that the alliance between the two powers would break apart. This would almost guarantee the Dominion's success in taking over the Alpha Quadrant.

The Dominion's hope for a conflict was destroyed when the Bajorans and Romulans were able to work out an agreement. Weeks later, the changeling security officer assigned to DS9 named Odo, received a message from an informant in Dominion space. When Odo took a runabout to meet the informant, he discovered that the message wasn't from him at all. It was from Weyoun, the Vorta leader of the Alpha Quadrant invasion forces. Weyoun informed Odo that he wished to defect. Odo later discovered that Weyoun was a clone named Weyoun 6, who was seen as defective in the eyes of the Dominion. Unlike his predecessors, Weyoun 6 thought that the war was wrong. When his life became endangered, he fled to a distant planet where he hoped that Odo would rescue him. Odo reluctantly agreed to bring Weyoun 6 into Federation space. On their way back to DS9, Weyoun 7 launched a small fleet of Jem' Hadar warships to stop them. After destroying one warship, the runabout was severely damaged. It was then that Weyoun 6 gave his own life in order to save Odo's. Before his death, he told Odo that the Founders were dying from a strange disease. If they died out, Odo would be the only one left. If this were to happen, he would be able to take control of the Dominion. It was Weyoun 6's hope that Odo would survive to lead the Dominion into an era of peace.

Shortly after the incident with Weyoun 6, the Klingon forces staged a brief attack on a key Dominion shipyard. Their attack was only partially successful. In 2375, the crew of the U.S.S. Defiant delivered some supplies to the marooned Starfleet crew at AR - 588, a key communications relay. While the Defiant was in orbit, the Jem'Hadar attacked and Sisko's away team was forced to help defend the installation. Several crewmembers were injured or killed during the conflict. After the struggle was over, a new crew came to defend the relay. Sisko, his crew, and the remaining AR - 588 survivors went back into Federation space.

Several months after the events at AR - 558, Lieutenant Ezri Dax and Commander Worf were captured by the Breen after their runabout was destroyed by the Jem' Hadra. The two were then presented to Weyoun, who informed them that the Breen and the Dominion were going to join forces and destroy the Federation once and for all. Meanwhile, Dukat, a former Cardassian goal, boarded DS9 disguised as a Bajoran. While he was there, he met with Kai Winn. The two of them joined forces, determined to restore Bajor.

The Federation Alliance was shocked when, in 2375, the Breen attacked Earth. This caused many people to fear the Breen, who seemed too powerful to defeat. To make matters worse, it was soon discovered that all Breen vessels were equipped with energy dampening devices, which drained all energy from a starship. Once the energy was gone, the Breen could easily destroy any vessel they wanted to. The U.S.S. Defiant was destroyed by the Breen, and it seemed that the Dominion was going to win the war. However, Federation engineers were able to discover how to make both Romulan and Starfleet ships immune to the energy devices. The Klingons were never affected by the Breen weapons, for some unknown reason.

One day, Chancellor Gowron took control of the Klingon fleet, and began to send ships on death missions. When Worf realized that Gowron was leading the Klingon Empire into ruin, he challenged him to a fight to the death. Worf won, and he immediately declared that General Martok was to be the new Chancellor.
In late 2375, the Dominion retreated back into Cardassian space. Knowing that they could not allow them extra time to build more ships, the Federation Alliance went on the offensive. A large battle took place. After a while, it seemed that the Dominion would win. However, the Cardassians switched sides after hearing that the Dominion was killing innocent Cardassians on Cardassia Prime. With the Cardassians' help, the Federation Alliance was able to trap the remaining Dominion vessels in orbit around Cardassia. A battle would soon take place. Whoever won, would win the war. This battle was avoided when the female changeling decided to surrender in exchange for Odo returning to the Great Link. A pecae treaty was signed on Deep Space Nine, and the was was officially over.
