Shadows and Symbols
Well, “Shadows and Symbols” turned out to be just as great as I thought it would be. We’re already two episodes into the season, and I’m beginning to think that DS9’s final year is turning out to be better than TNG’s last year. Now on to the episode! First of all, I think that the character of Ezri Dax is terrific. She shares many of Jadzia’s qualities and certainly has a variety of personalities, unlike Seven of Nine. (Don’t get me wrong. I like Seven. It’s just that Ezri seems more Human.) Ezri doesn’t seem to behave like a crazy person like many spoilers suggested. The music was once again terrific. It seemed that the music matched the mood of every scene, especially the one where Sisko returned to be welcomed by a crowd full of happy Bajorans. The special effects are some of the best I’ve seen on Trek to date. (Especially the battle scenes.) Just look at the Romulan Warbird in TNG’s “Face of the Enemy” and the Warbirds in “Shadows and Symbols”. The Warbirds in S&S seemed a lot more realistic. There have certainly been a lot of advances in special effects over the past several years. I was also glad to see a follow up on the events in “Far Beyond the Stars”. We even got to see Damar without makeup! (By the way, is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of tension between Damar and Weyoun? Just thought I’d note that.) I loved the ending. It just goes to show how close the DS9 crew has grown to each other during the past six years. They’re becoming a family of people much like the TNG crew did after seven seasons. My last thought for today is........ Wouldn’t it be weird if DS9 actually ended as Benny Sisko’s dream? My Rating : 10.00 out of 10.00 NEXT WEEK : Afterimage
