The X-Men #13
Uncanny X-Men #12
The X-Men slowly regain their bearings from their first up close taste of The Juggernaut's power. With the X-Men down and stunned now nothing stands between Xavier and his long maligned stepbrother. The Juggernaut espouses on how he's planned for this moment for years while he was freeing himself from living burial in Korea. He shows Xavier the power he has gained. So much power in fact that he exudes waves of energy just by standing still. Xavier's wheelchair is forced back from The Juggernaut's mere presence. Cain says that the time is now and that he can wait no longer to destroy his stepbrother. But Xavier says he has one ultimate weapon. Cain asks what he could possibly have that could stop him. Xavier says his mind. And again he strikes mentally, this time focusing every once of his power into a tight beam of pure psychic energy. The Juggernaut is only momentarily staggered. His advance continues. He explains to Xavier that the Crimson Bands along with his virtually unmatched physical power also provided him with a psionic helmet to protect him from any mental assault. The X-Men intervene after the Professor has failed and commence with a game plan. Jean uses her telekinesis to lift The Juggernaut from the ground while Cyclops blasts a pit underneath him. Iceman then drops a few ice boulders into the pit for good measure. Having gained themselves a few moments the X-Men regroup.
Xavier begins to command the X-Men. He tells Jean to help him to his lab and for Iceman and Beast to get the components to his new "mento-helmet" he was working on. After all tasks are completed Xavier hurriedly begins assembling the device. He explains it is designed to intensify his mental powers but that that still might not be enough to stop The Juggernaut. The helmet overcharges charges his mind up to the point where Xavier has to release some of the excess mental energy out across New York. Elsewhere The Juggernaut goes to work against his latest obstacle. While in the pit he thinks to himself how the nuisance delays will only make his ultimate victory sweeter. And that the power of The Juggernaut is unstoppable, and everything must yield to it. Making it a simple matter to hammer his own hand and footholds into the Earth and easily start climbing and burrowing his way out. Cyclops starts blasting down into the pit with his beam but can't see anything due to the intensity of his optic beam. He doesn't feel any resistance however and wonders what could be going on. He gets his answer when The Juggernaut suddenly
bursts up from the ground behind them. Floored,Cyclops desparately unloads on the advancing Juggernaut but his progress cannot be stopped. Angel tries to help by buffetting The Juggernaut with flying punches but they have no effect. Angel instructs Cyclops to use his legs with leverage to get abit of space with a kick. The Juggernaut is caught off-balance enough for the manuever to work enough for Cyclops to get back to his feet. The Juggernaut starts after them again and Angel says this time around he gets a crack at him. Cyclops says this is not a time for cowboys and that they need to strike together. They attack high and low but The Juggernaut informs them that they're only wearing themselves out and that he cannot be hurt. Meanwhile,Xavier's mental waves are being picked up throughout the city by the understandingly confused populace of New York. Even by one Matthew Murdock, attorney at law. Otherwise known as the Daredevil. But being mid-trial he cannot investigate the strange mental signal any further.
Iceman asks if he can go help the others and Xavier gives his permission. Beast says The Juggernaut is free and suggests they spirit Xavier away to be safe. Xavier says fleeing won't solve anything and tells Beast to go help the rest. Jean wants to help her fellow X-Men but Xaviers says he needs her at the moment. Angel is trying everything to stop The Juggernaut but he keeps moving forward and has reached the steps. Cyclops tries again with his optic blast but The Juggernaut just walks against it as though it were nothing. Annoyed,Cain grabs Angel with surprising speed and places him in front of his body to catch Cyclops' streaming blast too fast for Cyclops to turn away. Cyclops barely manages to at least decrease the intensity so that Angel is only knocked out. Cain tosses Angel's body away and says Angel will soon have company. Cyclops says they'll stop him or die trying. The Juggernaut says them dying trying is exactly the plan. But as he begins up the stairs toward Cyclops Iceman coats them in ice so that Cain falls down. Elsewhere Johnny Storm is in a friend's garage checking out a new race car when he suddenly picks up a mental signal telling him to follow it.

Iceman encases The Juggernaut in ice and continuously packs more and more on. The Juggernaut turns on his forcefield and it bursts the ice block violently, the flying chunks of ice knocking Iceman unconscious. Cyclops is exhausted beyond use and The Juggernaut goes to finish Iceman off. Fortunately for Iceman Beast was keeping himself in reserve in case the others should fall. And fall they did. The Beast jumps into the fray bouncing around The Juggernaut hoping to confound him,but Cain is not bothered because he knows Beast cannot stop him and that sooner or later he'd connect. Beast's acrobatics are interrupted by a mental command from Xavier for Beast to attempt to remove Cain's helmet. Beast complies and hops onto The Juggernaut's shoulders to give his helmet a tug. But that moment of pause allows The Juggernaut the opportunity he needed. He grabs Beast and clips him in his ankle, aiming to immobilize him. To The Juggernaut's surprise though the Beast can walk equally well on his hands and handstand scurries away. The Juggernaut gives chase and trips into the Danger Room. Beast fights the agonizing pain to reach the control panels to attack The Juggernaut with the Danger Room's many obstacles.
The Beast begins activating Danger Room obstacles but The Juggernaut isn't impressed by either of them. Jets of chemical flame fire at him,The Juggernaut just walks through them. Beast then tries multiple obstacles at once. Rope, battering devices, missiles. The Juggernaut easily smashes them all. Finally Beast releases a giant steel barrel to roll down into him. The Juggernaut just activates his forcefield and not only does it prevent the barrel from touching him,but the energy of it sends the barrel steamrolling back at Beast. Beast tries to clear it with a leap but The Juggernaut has injured him too badly. His head catches enough of the barrel to knock him out. With all of the X-Men out of the way Cain goes in search for his stepbrother. Xavier again contacts Johnny Storm but this time psychically erases his suspicion so he will comply. Johnny flames on and flies toward the X-Mansion.

His contact successful Xavier and Jean Grey head out of the lab to confront Cain. They find each other in one of the halls. Cain says despite all of the obstacles he's finally cornered Xavier. Xavier says maybe it was he who cornered Cain. The Juggernaut goes to smash his stepbrother when he's suddenly ripped off of the ground by Jean Grey's telekinesis. But The Juggernaut is not to be stopped. Despite having no physical footholds Cain's power allows him to amazingly "walk" back down toward Jean Grey. Mysteriously advancing against the levitation. Just in time to stop The Juggernaut from harming the awed Jean Grey Torch arrives.
Xavier directs Torch to their enemy and he attacks The Juggernaut without hesitation. Torch's flames have no effect and he thinks to himself that he knew the X-Men had to be up against something special to have enlisted outside help. Xavier mentally instructs Torch to fly around The Juggernaut in an attempt to confuse him. Xavier then telepathically brings Angel back to consciousness and calls for him to join them.
Angel is able to do so but is still too weak to jump in immediately so Xavier devises a plan to gain them a few more moments. He mentally instructs Torch to land in front of The Juggernaut and bring his flames to peak brightness like an exploding flash bulb. Torch does as he's told and Cain is momentarily blinded. Now Angel was up to bat. Following Xavier's mental instructions Angel whisks around The Juggernaut to seemingly no end. The Juggernaut says he cannot be hurt and this only makes him mad. Torch agrees, but then Xavier's plan is revealed. Angel divebombs down and quickly snatches off Cain's helmet in one quick swoop. Xavier then explains to Cain that he had Beast loosen the helmet earlier and that Angel only completed the job by removing it fully.

Cain continues to advance on Xavier saying he doesn't need his helmet to kill him. But Xavier says the he was in control now and hits Cain with a mental bolt that brings him to all fours. Too fueled by rage to stop Cain continues on even after the bolt hits, crawling toward his stepbrother who is amazed at how resilient Cain's hatred makes him. As Cain's outstreched hands near Xavier he knows he has no other choice. Xavier strikes Cain with another bolt, this one strong enough to take him out completely. The Torch wonders what happened since all Xavier did was look at him. Xavier says it's best that Johnny thinks that and sends him away with a telepathic suggestion to not remember any of the events.

And thus, the legend of The Unstoppable Juggernaut is born. The defining showcase of of his essence and what he is. An irresistible, unreckonable force with but one true weakness:his mind.
Issue Trivia:The battle with The Juggernaut was the first time ever that the X-Men sustained injuries that lasted into the proceeding episode. Special indeed.
