Name: Krycek, Alex. Also referred to as Artzen by the Russians.

Details: When we first see him he is filling in the position of Mulder's partner and claims to be a believer in his work. However, later, he is revealed as being an agent of the conspiracy, working for the Smoking Man, keeping an eye on Mulder.

During his time with Agent Mulder he kills abductee, Duane Barry, and aids in the abduction of Agent Dana Scully. But before any action can be taken against him he disappears.

He is responsible for the murder of Bill Mulder, another 'job' authorised by the conspiracy. He was also with the group of men who killed Agent Scully's sister, Melissa Scully, and beat up Assistant Director Skinner to retrieve the DAT (digital audio tape). However an assassination was attempted on him by the Smoking Man but he escaped just in time, in possession of the DAT. It was here that he became the renegade agent we see in the 'Piper Maru' situation.

There he is found in Hong Kong, where he, along with his salvage partner, Jerry, has been selling secrets from the MJ files on the DAT. Mulder finds him and prepares to take him back to Washington, however, Krycek is possessed by the black alien goo which takes control of his body. With the alien goo (or oilien) inside him he returns the tape to the Smoking Man. In return the Smoking Man allows the oilien to return to its spaceship, and using Krycek's body, it does. However, when the oilien leaves his body, Krycek finds himself locked inside silo 1013.

Krycek is found later helping terrorists, who he claims released him from the silo (however this appears to be untrue). He says his parents were Russian Cold War refugees. He later turns out to be a KGB agent, helping the Russian conspiracy with the deadly 'black cancer' weapon. His left arm has been amputated by Russian peasants and he uses a prosthetic arm instead. He is fluent in Russian.
