Ensign Lindsay Ballard died three years ago. At least that's what the Voyager crew believed. She was an ensign, and she was killed on an away mission. After her burial in space, some aliens picked her up and reconfigured her DNA. They turned her into one of them, since they can't reproduce any other way.
She remembers her life on Voyager, and she steals a spacecraft and attempts to find it. She succeeds, and she slowly becomes used to life aboard Voyager. She resumes working in engineering, and she even has the Doctor make her look human.
However, she soon begins to realize that her life on Voyager ended when she died. Meanwhile, Seven of Nine has been put in charge of raising the Borg children. She treats them all the same, and they don't like it. They begin rebelling. After talking with Chakotay, Seven realizes that she has been keeping them from being individuals. She's been treating them like drones. Seven finally allows the children to act like children.
The aliens who reconfigured Lindsay's DNA return for her. They attack Voyager, but they stop when she agrees to return. She says her goodbyes and leaves the ship. Everyone is saddened by her departure, especially Harry Kim.
My Thoughts
"Ashes to Ashes" wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. It's certainly not one of the season's best episodes, but it was okay. Personally, I enjoyed the scenes with the Borg children more than the scenes with Ensign Ballard. She was nice, but I found the Borg children to be much more interesting. Once again, the little girl was the best of the bunch. She was wonderfully portrayed, as was the oldest Borg child. The twins didn't do much, but they were good too. I'm glad we got to see Naomi Wildman again. Dennis McCarthy's musical score was quite enjoyable, and the special effects were interesting. Once again, the producers ignore the fact that Voyager has traveled light years closer to home. This time they allow Ballard to find Voyager, despite the fact that the ship is nowehere near her location. My Rating : 9.25 out of 10.00 -- NEXT WEEK : An episode about the Borg children. I can't wait for this one. It looks really good.
