Synopsis

Janeway falls to the floor as one of the nucleogenic creatures comes flying toward her. She isn't injured, but Chakotay is. As the crew fights off the alien attacks, Janeway manages to restore the shields.

Harry then gives her a status report. Two crewmembers are dead, and several more are seriously wounded. To make matters worse, the Doctor is missing. Janeway grabs a phaser rifle and heads for sickbay. On the way there, she runs into Neelix, who found the Doctor's holoemitter in the corridor.

Janeway finally reaches sickbay, where Ensign Paris is treating the wounded. Janeway transers the Doctor to the sickbay's holographic relays. He immediately gets to work on healing the wounded. (No one is aware of the fact that he's the evil EMH from the Equinox.)

Onboard the Equinox, Ransom and his crew attempt to activate the advanced warp drive, which uses the nucleogenic aliens as fuel. The drive doesn't work. Seven of Nine has disabled it, and she's the only one who can get it to work. When she refuses to give Ransom the codes to activate it, he deactivates the ethical subroutines on Voyager's EMH. Ranson then orders Voyager's doctor to get the codes from Seven, no matter what it takes.

On Voyager, Chakotay gets worried when Janeway becomes obsessed with tracking down and punishing the Equinox crew. When the Equinox stops at a nearby planet searching for supplies, Voyager ambushes them. They capture two Equinox crewmembers who happened to be on the planet's surface. Both ships battle each other. Finally, the Equinox attempts to hide. Ransom takes the ship into the planet's atmosphere. Voyager attempts to prursue, but she is too badly damaged. The Equinox leaves the atmosphere and jumps to warp, as an angry Janeway watches.

While B'Elanna tries to repair the disabled warp engines, Janeway locks Noah Lessing, one of the Equinox crewmembers, in the Borg cargo bay. She won't let him out until he agrees to help defeat Ransom. When he refuses, Janeway deactivates the shields and allows the nucleogenic lifeforms to enter the room. Chakotay tries to reactivate the shields before Lessing is killed, but Janeway has locked the controls. Janeway insists that he'll break and agree to help, but Chakotay knows he won't. He grabs a phaser and runs into the cargo bay. He grabs Noah and drags him out before the aliens can harm him. Noah then agrees to give Janeway some information regarding the Ankari, who are experts on the aliens.

Janeway relieves Chakotay of his duties and locks him in his quarters. She's convinced that he crossed the line by saving Noah. Voyager meets with an Ankari vessel, and they contact the aliens, who inform Janeway that they will stop their attacks only if they can destroy the Equinox. Janeway agrees, despite Tuvok's objections.

On the Equinox, the Doctor continues to extract information from Seven. Meanwhile, Ransom begins to have second thoughts about using the creatures as fuel. However, when he tries to do the right thing and surrender, his first officer Max heads a mutiny. Ransom is taken off the bridge and Max takes control.

Voyager cathes up with the Equinox yet again and a battle erupts. Voyager destroys one of the Equinox's nacelles, but Max refuses to surrender. Ransom and Marla Gilmore manage to beam several Equinox crewmembers to Voyager. They Equinox crewmembers are greeted by phaser rifles.

Marla beams herself over, leaving Ransom, Max, and a handful of others onboard the ship. Instead of surrendering, Max and his followers head for the shuttlebay. While they're making their escape, they are killed by the nucleogenic lifeforms. This leaves Ransom as the only surviving person onboard. With the ship about to explode, Ransom takes the helm and steers it away from Voyager, saving Janeway and her crew. He dies in the process.

Janeway allows the surviving Equinox crewmembers to join Voyager on therer journey home, but she informs them that they will have to earn her trust.

My Thoughts

I didn't really care for Equinox Part 1, but I did enjoy Part 2. The special effects were impressive, the plot was exciting, and the acting was terrific. Both Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) and Robert Beltran (Chakotay) turned in wonderful performances. Janeway seemed almost evil at times, and I actually thought that she would destroy the Equinox and its crew during the final showdown. Well, that's it for now. My Rating : 10.00 out of 10.00 -- NEXT WEEK : Seven encounters some old friends.
