Synopsis

Two people beam down to an alien planet. They claim that they are Kathryn Janeway and Tuvok, even though they obviously aren't. They're imposters.

They scam some alien miners out of supplies, and they leave the system in their fake Delta Flyer, much to the dismay of the miners. The real Voyager crew is dealing with a problem. Apparantly, Neelix and Tom were scammed by some aliens on a recent mission. They can't believe how gullibe they were. They fear that they've lost their edge. When the ship runs into an angry miner, Janeway puts two and two together. Some people have decided to pose as members of the Voyager crew, using their false identities to their advantage.

Voyager hunts down the fake Voyager crewmembers, who are now selling Federation membership for a price. Both Voyager and the fake Delta Flyer get into a battle, and both escape with minimal damage. Voyager manages to beam aboard the fake Janeway, but it can't nab the others. The real Janeway confronts the fake Janeway. The real Janeway and Tuvok make up a story about how they plan on turning the fake Janeway and her fellow imposters over to the people they scammed. Tuvok then falsely remarks that the aliens they scammed have extrememly harsh prisons. The threat seems to work, and the fake Janeway begins to regret her actions.

However, it's all an act. She doesn't regret any of it. She attacks Neelix, who conveniently has a phaser with him, and she makes her way to the real Delta Flyer. She steals it, and she sets a course for the fake Delta Flyer. Little does she know that Tom and the Doc have stowed aboard. They knock her out, and the Doc pretends to be the fake Janeway. He leads the other imposters into a trap, and Voyager arrives to save the day.

In the Mess Hall, Neelix and Tom trick the Doctor into playing a game. The Doctor loses, and he storms out of the room claiming that he was cheated. Neelix and Tom smile. They haven't lost their edge.

My Thoughts

"Live Fast and Prosper" wasn't the season's best episode, but it did manage to be fun and entertaining, and that's enough to make me happy. I was fooled several times throughout the course of the show. I guess I was as gullible as Neelix and Tom, because I actually believed that the Janeway imposter wanted to change. I was surprised when she phasered Neelix and stole the Flyer. Speaking of Neelix, wasn't it awfully convenient that he happened to have a phaser with him? I'm pretty sure that the crew wanted the imposter to escape. I guess the Voyager crew isn't that gullible after all. Paul Baillargeon's musical score was quite nice, especially during the battle scene. The special effects were nice as well. Did anyone else notice that the imposters' bridge looked remarkably similar to the U.S.S. Defiant's bridge? I wonder if Voyager's producers redressed the Defiant bridge set and used it. My Rating : 9.50 out of 10.00 -- NEXT WEEK : B'Elanna and Harry get stranded on an alien world when the Delta Flyer crashes.
