Synopsis
Former Enterprise engineer Reginald Barclay has been assigned to the Pathfinder project, which was set up in order to locate and contact Voyager. The people on the team are constantly coming up with new ideas about how to bring Voyager home or contact the crew. However, no one really takes Reg's ideas seriously. When Admiral Paris arrives to check on the progress of the Pathfinder Project, Barclay tells him about his new idea. He assures the Admiral that his plan will work, and that he can contact Voyager and allow him to speak to his son, Tom Paris.
The Admiral agrees to look at the plan. If he believes it is sound, he will allow Barclay to try it. While he is reviewing it, Deanna Troi stops by for a visit. Actually, Reg asked her to come. He believes that he is becoming obsessed with the Voyager crew. He's correct. He spends all of his free time in the holodeck, with the holographic crew. After a talk with Troi, Barclay sneaks into the Pathfinder building and activates the Midas array in order to contact Janeway and her crew.
After several minutes, he's captured by Starfleet security. As they are taking him away, Admiral Paris walks in and informs them that Barclay has permission to go ahead with his plan. As they release him, they hear a voice. It's Janeway. Voyager has received the message. Starfleet and Janeway transfer information and talk with each other for a few minutes. Admiral Paris then tells Janeway to inform his son that he is proud of him. As the Captain is shouting for the people back on Earth to keep a docking bay open for her vessel, the signal is lost.

My Thoughts
"Pathfinder" was marvelous. Everyone turned in stellar performances, and Voyager finally got to talk to the people back home, even if it was only for a short while. I was pleased to see Admiral Paris. He was very well portrayed. I also enjoyed seeing Lieutenant Barclay and Counselor Troi. I really felt sorry for Reg, since no one would take his idea seriously and because he was so lonely. I was worried that he wouldn't get a chance to contact Voyager. When he managed to do so, I was thrilled. The best part of the show was when Janeway asked the folks back home to keep a docking bay open for her ship. I thought that scene was very emotional and dramatic. Overall, "Pathfinder" turned out to be one of the season's very best. Oh, I absolutely loved the Star Trek clip show which aired before the episode. The clips were great, and the outtakes near the end were hilarious! My Rating : 10.00 out of 10.00 -- NEXT WEEK : A rerun of Seson 5's "Think Tank".
