Synopsis
After returning from a two week survey mission in the Delta Flyer, Voyager's away team begins to experience memories of a deadly alien conflict. Tom Paris is the first one to experience the memories and flashbacks. Soon after, Harry and Chakotay are affected. Then Neelix starts to experience them. He even holds Naomi hostage in the Mess Hall because he believes everyone is trying to hurt her.
As the time goes by, more and more crewmembers fall to the mysterious memories. Nearly forty people have been traumatized by memories of a massacre, and the Mess Hall has been converted into a sickbay. No one knows wether or not the Voyager crew actually took part in the massacre, but they are determined to find out if they did or didn't. After the Captain herself experiences the flashbacks, Voyager sets a course for Turakis, an alien planet which the Delta Flyer surveyed on its mission.
Janeway leads an away team to the surface, where they discover a huge monument surrounded by a beautiful forest. They discover that the monument is actually a memorial, and it's projecting memories of an alien massacre that happened over three hundred years ago. The Voyager crew took no part in it. The memorial was built so that no one would forget what happened. The people who built it also hoped that people would learn from the memories and not allow such an event to occur again.
After a heated argument with her senior staff, Janeway decides to repair the memorial and leave it intact, so it will be operating for another three hundred years. However, many crewmembers disagree with her. They believe that no one should have to relive such a terrible event. Janeway then decides to place a warning in orbit, making sure that no one has to experience the memories against their own will. The crew finally completes repairs. They then warp back toward home, leaving the monument for someone else to discover.

My Thoughts
Wow. "Memorial" was emotional, intense, dramatic, and different. After last week's light - hearted "Virtuoso", we were treated to this wonderful episode, which was full of mystery and suspense. I know I'm not very hard on my Voyager episode ratings, but I really do love the series. As long as we continue to get episodes like this, I'll be happy. Kate Mulgrew, Garrett Wang, Robert Beltran, and Robert Duncan McNeil all turned in their best performances of the season. I was especially impressed with Kate Mulgrew. Her scene during the Nkan battle was riveting, and it was the best scene of the entire episode. Kathryn Janeway is my favorite Voyager character, and I think that Kate Mulgrew should be nominated for an emmy award this year. Another memorable scene was the one where Neelix held Naomi hostage. As usual David Bell's musical score perfectly fit the tone of the show. He always composes a great score, and this one was superb. We were treated to a couple of new shots of Voyager, and there was a nice shot of the Delta Flyer during the opening teaser. The scenery on the alien planet was beautiful. It looked very warm and inviting. I wonder where the filming for those outdoor scenes took place. The alien memorial was nicely designed. It looked pretty authentic. Well I'd have to say that "Memorial" is the best episode so far this season, and one of Voyager's very best. In my book, it's an instant classic. My Rating : You guessed it! It's another 10.00 out of 10.00!-- NEXT WEEK : Seven is abducted and forced to fight in an alien game. The promo for this one wasn't that great, but it looks okay.
