"My mind, Mr. Neelix, is not playing tricks." --- Tuvok
"Tuvok. Tuvok!" "As you were!" --- Tom and Tuvok, after Tuvok falls asleep on the bridge
Synopsis
While on a mission in the Delta Flyer, Harry and B'Elanna crash on an alien world. Using an escape pod, Harry manages to leave the Flyer before it hits the ground, but B'Elanna doesn't make it out. She goes down with the Flyer and is found by an alien playwright, who accidentally accesses the computer and begins to write plays about the Voyagers, powerful people who are making their way home.
B'Elanna wakes up after being unconscious for days. She was sick, and the playwright saved her life, so she tells him more information about the Voyagers, careful not to reveal too much information. He still believes that B'Elanna and her shipmates are mythical beings.
Harry eventually finds B'Elanna, and the playwright writes more Voyager plays for his ruler. His last play is the best one yet, and it may convince the leader to stop a looming war. However, there's no ending. B'Elanna arrives in the nick of time, saves the day, and beams away, much to the amazement of the primitive spectators. After her departure, the playwright and his band of actors and actresses manage to make a difference with their play, and they finally have a happy ending.
My Thoughts
"Muse" was a nice and quiet episode, but like last week's show, it wasn't quite perfect. Why? Well, I'm getting tired of shuttle crashes. I realize that the producers had to find a way to get B'Elanna stranded on the planet, but couldn't they have found something else besides a shuttle crash? Anyway, I'm glad we got to see another B'Elanna show. I don't believe that "Muse" was better than "Barge of the Dead", the other B'Elanna episode that aired this season, but I did like it. It was interesting to see the alien actors and actresses portray Voyager crewmembers on the stage. I enjoyed the Janeway/Seven showdown, the Janeway/Chakotay kiss, and B'Elanna's farewell. Both Roxann Dawson and the actor who played the playwrite turned in some good performances. Also, we got a reference to the Delaney sisters! David Bell's musical score once again fit the mood of the show, and I enjoyed the humorous scene where Tuvok fell asleep in the Captain's chair. My Rating: 9.75 out of 10.00 -- NEXT WEEK: Kes returns!
