Nova - Class Starship

The Nova - Class starship is a type of vessel used by Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. They are science vessels, and are designed for short term planetary research. Most Nova - Class vessels have minimal weaponry and can only reach speeds up to Warp 8. The U.S.S. Equinox was a Nova - Class vessel, and it had a crew compliment of about eighty people. However, the Equinox was pulled into the Delta Quadrant by an entity known as the Caretaker, and about half of its crew was killed by a hostile alien race when the Equinox's Captain decided to pass through their space. The Equinox was later destroyed after engaging in battle with the U.S.S. Voyager in late 2375. Only five members of the Equinox crew survived, and they have joined the Voyager crew on its journey home.
