"They're letters. Letters from home!" Janeway

Synopsis
The episode begins in space. We hear someone talking in a message, but it is full of static. We see a purple nebula and then a green nebula. All of a sudden Voyager comes out of the cloudy nebula. On the bridge Janeway and the crew are listening to the transmission that is full of static. All of a sudden the message stops. “What happened?” asks Janeway. Kim says that the message is stuck in an alien relay station. The same kind that they sent the Doctor through. Kim clears up the part of the message that they received. It is from Starfleet Command. It says that the content of the message is important. Then the message stops. Tom says that Starfleet told them that they wouldn’t stop until they found a way to get Voyager home. Tuvok says that it is unlikely that they have come up with a plan so fast, but it could be possible. Janeway tells Tom to set a course at full warp for the closest relay. Chakotay reminds the Captain that the aliens who own the array weren’t happy the last time they used them. Janeway says that it does not matter and she won’t stop until she finds out what was in the rest of the message. * * * On the Hirogen vessel the Captain asks who is sending the message that is full of static. An officer says that the message comes from the other side of the galaxy. The Captain asks who is receiving the message. The officer tells the Captain that the vessel that is receiving the message is heading for one of the modules. “Set a course for intercept.” Then he dips his finger in white paint and puts it on the helmet that is on his face. * * * Paris asks how Starfleet could bring them home from 60,000 light years away. Harry guesses that Starfleet might have discovered a whole new way to travel through space. Tuvok says that it is possible because technology brought them to the Delta Quadrant so it could bring them back. Chakotay says that the Federation discovered a stable wormhole to the Gamma Quadrant so maybe they found one to the Delta Quadrant. Janeway tells them that all of those theories are good guesses, but they shouldn’t set themselves up for a big disappointment. Harry says that he is just happy that his folks know that he is alive. Janeway guesses that there were a lot of celebrations when people go the news that the crew was alive. Chakotay says that it might be hard for some people. Just when they got on with their life they discover that their loved ones are alive, but so far away that they might as well be dead. “Maybe some people are like that, but not my mom and dad.” says Harry. Janeway says that if Starfleet found a way to send messages through the array then they could stay in constant contact with home. Harry tells Janeway that if no one objects he would like to think that Starfleet will get them home. * * * The Doctor walks into Astrometrics and finds Seven working. “You were supposed to report to sickbay for your weekly checkup.” he says, sounding annoyed. Seven tells the Doctor that she is doing her job. “And just what is this pressing task?” asks the Doctor. Seven tells him that she is trying to retrieve the message from Starfleet Command. The Doctor tells Seven that her implants have to be monitored regularly. “How long has it been since you last regenerated?” asks the Doctor. Seven tells the Doctor that she hasn’t regenerated in fifty - eight hours. “That explains it. We’ve discussed this before, Seven. You have to regenerate at least three hours in your alcove every day.” “I have gone two hundred hours without regenerating before.” “That was when you were Borg. You seem to forget that you’re a great deal more human now, Seven.” “I assure you, I haven’t forgotten.” Seven tells the Doctor. “I have another.” Seven says. “I beg your pardon?” Seven tells the Doctor that she has managed to retrieve another word. “That makes six.” “Six words in fifty eight hours?” the Doctor says astonished. “Wouldn’t it be more efficient to wait until we’ve reached the relay station?” asks the Doctor. “It is important to the Captain.” Seven says. “I’m aware of that.” the Doctor tells Seven. “In fact, if it weren’t for me these transmissions would be impossible. I’m the one who risked my matrix to travel to the Alpha Quadrant. If we ever get back to the Alpha Quadrant I suspect I’ll be quite the hero. Emergency Medical Hologram instrumental in return of Voyager crew. It has a nice ring to it don’t you think?” “On the other hand it could be possible that you will be deleted and updated to the most recent standards.” “Unlikely. I’ve done things that other EMHs never have. I’ll probably be the object of intense study.” the Doctor says smiling. All of a sudden the ship starts to shake. The smile drops from the Doctor’s face. He asks Seven what is going on. * * * Harry says that the ship is shaking from the gravametric forces coming from the relay station. Janeway says that they are still two light years away and they shouldn’t be feeling these gravametric forces unless the station has an extremely powerful energy source. When the shaking stops Tuvok says that there is a ship near them. It is floating in space. Harry says that there is one person on board, but he is dead. Janeway says to beam the body to sickbay. “I want to find out how he died.” * * * In sickbay the body is laying on a biobed. “What happened?” asks Janeway. The Doctor says that the alien was gutted between one week and one month ago. Seven says that the Borg encountered a ship with bodies that were gutted before. The Doctor asks what species did this. Seven says she doesn’t know because it was irrelevant at the time. Janeway tells the Doctor to return the body to the ship in case his people come looking for him. After traveling two days at high warp Voyager is close enough to receive the messages clearly and to see the relay on visual. “It looks ancient.” says Paris. Kim informs everyone that the array is over one hundred thousand years old. The ship starts to shake again. Kim says that the sensors indicate that the relay is using a quantum singularity as a power source. “A black hole?” Paris asks amazed. “A small one.” replies Kim. Kim says that it would not be wise to take Voyager any closer because the gravametric eddies would tear them apart. Chakotay tells Janeway that they are as close to the array as they are going to get. * * * Seven tells Janeway that the data stream is degrading. She says that all the words are not in order. Janeway tells Seven that she doesn’t care what order the words are in. She says that they will put them in order later. She tells Seven to get the message in bits and pieces if she has to. Seven says that she is getting a message. Janeway starts to read it. “We miss you......we often talk about you. This seems awfully personal from Starfleet Command. Then Janeway figures it out. These are letters! Letters from home!” * * * Janeway gets Neelix to deliver the letters to the crew. Neelix says that he is happy to deliver them. He tells Janeway that he has never seen the crew this excited. “This is as close as they've been to their families in almost four years.” Janeway tells him. Janeway tells Neelix that when he is done delivering his letters he needs to come back because they will have more. “I promise that I will treat these letters like gemstones!” Neelix says. Then he rushes out of Astrometrics. Seven says that she has found something odd. She tells the Captain that buried beneath the letters is something from Starfleet Command. She says that she thinks it includes maps and text. Seven says that they are heavily incripted. Seven says that she has to download more letters before she will be able to reach the encrypted text. “What do you think of all of this, Seven?” Janeway asks. Seven tells Janeway that she has never been to Earth and it lacks emotional resonance. Janeway tells Seven that she may have family on Earth. “I never thought of that.” says Seven. “You may have grandparents or cousins there. There may be more emotional resonance than you think.” Janeway tells Seven. * * * Neelix walks onto the bridge and announces that he has the first letters from home. He hands a letter to Chakotay. Chakotay says it is from an old friend who recruited him into the Maquis. Chakotay starts to read the letter. Chakotay looks like he has seen a ghost. “I think I’ll read this in private.” says Chakotay. “Tom, you have the bridge.” He heads into the ready room. Neelix heads for the turbolift. “Neelix, don’t you have any more letters?” “Not for the bridge crew...not yet. Seven is still working.” Neelix tells Kim. Kim’s smile fades away as Neelix enters the turbolift. * * * Tuvok’s door chime rings. “Come in,” he says. Neelix enters, smiling. “This is for you!” he says. Tuvok instructs him to lay it on the desk. Neelix waits a moment while Tuvok continues to work. “Aren’t you going to read it?” asks Neelix. Tuvok tells Neelix that he will read it when he is done with his tactical review. “You’re going to wait until you’re done with your tactical review?!” a shocked Neelix asks. “Is there any reason to believe that the message’s content will change during that time?” asks Tuvok. Tuvok says again that he will read the message after his review. “It has important news!” Neelix exclaims. “You mean you have read it?” asks Tuvok. “Well only the first few lines...when I saw who it was addressed to.........I couldn’t help it......would you like me to read it to you?” “Very well,” says Tuvok. Neelix begins to read it. “My dear husband, we have heard that you are alive and have instructed the monks at Omanak to pray for your safe return. The biggest news is that your eldest son, Sek, has gone through pon farr. He has mated and now has a baby female which he named after your mother. Isn’t that wonderful! You’re a grandfather now! What should we call you? Grandpa? Gramps?” “Lt. Tuvok would suffice.” Neelix promises that he will leave if Tuvok promises to read the letter right away. “Who knows what’s in that letter!” exclaims Neelix. When Neelix leaves Tuvok puts the letter down and continues working on his tactical review. Then after a couple of seconds Tuvok changes his mind. He picks the letter back up and starts to read it. * * * Janeway walks onto the bridge with a padd in her hand. “Is that letter for you Captain?” Harry asks. “Yes,” Janeway replies. She tells Harry that she will be in her ready room. “Yes ma’am,” says Harry. When she enters her ready room Janeway sits down. She activates the padd. At the top it says that the message is from Mark Johnson. Janeway starts to read it. A smile appears on her face. After a couple of more seconds the smile fades from Janeway’s face. Janeway stops reading the letter. A tear starts in her eye. * * * A grim Chakotay walks through engineering. He finds Torres. “Have you gotten a letter?” he asks. “Don’t expect one,” Torres replies. “Remember Spheta? I got a letter from her.” says Chakotay. “Why would she be sending you a letter?” a confused Torres asks. Chakotay doesn’t answer. “Chakotay what is it?” a worried Torres asks. “Something terrible has happened. I had to read it for over an hour before I could finally accept it. Now I have to tell everyone, but I don’t know how. It’s over, B’Elanna. There are no more Maquis.” A shocked look appears on B’Elanna’s face. “What? There are thousands of us!” “All wiped out. It turns out that a species from the Gamma Quadrant supplied the Cardassians with ships and weapons.” “Everyone except us is dead?” “Spheta and a few lucky ones are in prison.” “No!” “B’Elanna,” Chakotay says. “No! I don’t want to be comforted. Those were good people. They were fighting for what they believed in. They were all just slaughtered!” “B’Elanna we all knew there were risks involved.” “That doesn’t make it right and you know it! I’m going to make someone pay if we ever get back!” Chakotay leaves B’Elanna. B’Elanna starts breathing heavily. * * * Tom is sitting alone at a table in the Mess Hall. Harry gets his food and sits down across from Tom. “I heard that Seven downloaded thirty more letters.” “Oh, really?” “Neelix is supposed to be on his way here now.” “What is this stuff anyway?” “What?” “This mystery dish. It kind of tastes like chicken with a consistency of corn husks.””That’s all you can think about? Eating!” “I don’t like guessing what I put into my stomach.” says Paris. “Don’t letters from home mean anything to you?” Paris continues to talk about his food. “I don’t believe you.” Neelix then walks into the Mess Hall and announces that he has some more letters from home. He calls out quite a few names like Nicoletti, Keoto, Golwat, Ashmore, Parsons, and a couple of more. Harry tells Tom that there will not be a letter for him. Paris tells Kim that Neelix isn’t even finished passing out the letters yet. Neelix passes out the letters to the people who are in the Mess Hall. There isn’t one for Kim. “I’m sorry if your name wasn’t called. Seven is still getting more messages.” Neelix turns to leave. “Neelix wait! I thought you had at least thirty letters.” “Thirty? Where did you here that?” “It was going around.” “Well, don’t believe every rumor you hear.” Kim sighs and drops into his seat. “Aren’t you going to eat your lunch?” asks Paris. “I’m not hungry.” replies Kim. “You shouldn’t get your hopes up, Harry. No hopes, no disappointments.” “I’m not you.” Harry then gets up and leaves the Mess Hall. * * * A solemn Janeway is sitting in her ready room staring at the wall. Seven walks in and tells her that the longer the messages are in the data stream the more they will degrade. Seven suggests that she take a shuttle and remodulate the relay’s shielding so Voyager can get the messages easier. Janeway tells Seven that Lt. Tuvok will go with her. Seven tells Janeway that she can accomplish the mission alone. Janeway tells Seven that it is a custom to send two people on a away mission. Seven reluctantly agrees. She leaves and Janeway continues to stare at the wall. * * * Harry walks into the Astrometrics Lab. He sees B’Elanna working. “I thought Seven was working here.” “She went on a shuttle mission with Tuvok. I’m working here now. Disappointed?” “No, of course not. Stop that. There’s nothing between us.” “I know there isn’t. It’s purely a one way attraction. Harry, you might as well wear a big sign that says I’m in love. Everyone sees it.” “I admit for a while........she’s a very attractive woman.....I’ve gotten over that okay? Believe what you want.” “Why did you come down here then?” “I..I..I wanted to know if I had gotten a letter yet.” B’Elanna starts to feel bad for making fun of Harry. “I’m sorry. I haven’t seen anything yet.” “Do you think everyone’s going to get one?” “I’m sure Starfleet alerted everyone’s families that we are alive. Don’t worry. You’ll get one. Just be patient.” * * * Seven and Tuvok are on one of Voyager’s shuttles. The shuttle is constantly shaking because of the gravametric eddies. Seven asks Tuvok if she is correct in assuming that Vulcans are incapable of lying. Tuvok says that Vulcans can lie, but he has never found the need to. He says that he has only lied when ordered to do so by a superior officer. “Is it the Captain’s custom to send more than two officers on an away mission?” “It is not only custom, it is a Starfleet protocol.” says Tuvok. Tuvok asks Seven if there is a purpose to her question. Seven tells Tuvok that she wonders if the Captain still doesn’t trust her. Tuvok says that he is not certain how the Captain regards her. Seven says that they are ready to initiate a poloron pulse. They fire the pulse. The variance in the relay’s shields drops to the level that they need it to be at. Tuvok asks Seven if she values the Captain’s opinion. “From my understanding of the hierarchy of Voyager, the Captain’s opinion is important to everyone.” The shuttle is still shaking ,but suddenly it starts to shake a lot more. The shuttle is then scanned by a sub - nucleonic beam. Seven reports that the comm, weapons, and warp engines are off line. “I think this was done intentionally, by the ship approaching.” says Tuvok. * * * The ship that is approaching is a Hirogen vessel. The Hirogen ship fires at the shuttle. Sparks erupt from the consoles. Tuvok announces that the shields are losing integrity. Seven tries to get at least one phaser array online. The shuttle is hit again. Seven tells Tuvok that one more hit could result in a hull breach. Tuvok then gets an idea. He tells Seven that they should fly closer to the relay station because the Hirogen vessel might not be able to navigate the eddies. Before the shuttle can get very far the Hirogen vessel locks a tractor beam on the shuttle. All of a sudden a bright, red light flashes. Seven and Tuvok both fall unconscious. * * * In Astrometrics Torres calls the bridge. She tells the Captain that she needs to see Paris in the Astrometrics Lab. “He’s on his way.” says Janeway. When Paris arrives in Astrometrics Torres says that a letter is coming in for him. “Who is it from?” Torres says that she doesn't’[t know. “I bet it’s from the Rehab Colony.” says Paris. Paris then says that he is going back to the bridge. “You’re not going to wait here?” Torres asks. Paris tells Torres that he is on duty. “Voyager is floating in space. There’s not much to do.” says Torres. Paris decides to stay. Torres says that the first part of the letter has come through. “It’s from an Admiral Owen. Do you know him?” “Admiral Owen Paris. He’s my father.” “That’s wonderful.” “maybe. I don’t know. The more everyone gets excited about these letters, the more I don’t want to be a part of it. Maybe it’s because what I have here on Voyager is so much better than anything I ever had back home.” “You’re not the same person as four years ago.Maybe he changed too. Give him a chance.” “Once he forms an opinion about something, nothing can change his mind.” Torres starts to get angry. “I’m sorry if I’m not terribly sorry for you. I just learned that my friends are dead. I went from wanting to kill someone to crying for an hour. I’m trying to accept it and move on.” Paris moves over to B’Elanna and hugs her. “I’m sorry. And here I was going on about something that doesn’t even matter.” “It does. You obviously care about what he thinks about you.” Paris turns to head back to the bridge. “I’ll let you know when I get the whole letter.” says Torres. * * * Chakotay tells Janeway that Tuvok and Seven pulled it off. “Torres says that she is retrieving the letters more easily now.” Janeway tells Chakotay that the singularity that the relay is using for power generates more energy in one minute than a star does in a year. “If nobody shows up and protests I’d like to says here a while longer.” says Janeway. Janeway offers Chakotay some coffee. Chakotay asks Janeway about her letter. Janeway tells Chakotay that the letter was from Mark. She tells Chakotay that Mark told her about the puppies and he told her that he got married to someone else. He kept on hoping longer than most people. Then he started to live again. Four months ago he married a woman who works with him. “He’s very happy.” says Janeway. Chakotay asks Janeway how she feels. “I knew he would eventually move on with his life. It’s just that there was so much finality in that letter.” Harry calls Janeway to the bridge. When she enters Harry says that they just picked up Tuvok and Seven’s shuttle on sensors, but there was no one on board. * * * Tuvok wakes up inside the Hirogen vessel. It the middle of the room there is a large net with bones on it. Tuvok then figures out what happened to the alien they found earlier. “Seven!” Tuvok says. Seven then wakes up. Her hair is out of place.”Where are we?” “I assume we are on the alien vessel.” says Tuvok. Seven’s hands are also tied. She is laying on the floor. “This is most uncomfortable.” says Seven. She tries to get up. Tuvok tells Seven that if they can reach one of the blades that are hanging on the wall they could cut the ropes around them. Then two Hirogen walk in. “You are pathetic prey! You were easily taken. The hunt was not satisfying.” the Hirogen yells. “Why have you violated our territory?” the Hirogen asks. He picks up Seven and places his hand around her neck. “I could snap your neck.” The Hirogen then drops Seven. “Hardly worth taking! Why were you using our arrays?” Tuvok then tells him that they were retrieving messages from their home. Tuvok tells the Hirogen to release them. “No!” he screams. The Hirogen puts black paint on his finger and then rubs it onto Seven’s face. He asks Seven if her ship could fair better in a fight. “You will find that our ship is heavily armed.” “Good! That makes for better prey! You are the first of your kind to be caught. I will be envied. Go to stalking mode!” The Hirogen officer says that they should wait for the rest of the group to attack Voyager. “These two must be the only relics! * * * Harry tells Janeway that he is reading a Hirogen ship on sensors and Tuvok and Seven are on it. Janeway tells Harry to hail the ship. Janeway tells the Hirogen Captain to give them there two crew members back. “You will disconnect your link with our modules!” the Hirogen says. Then the Hirogen says that he will not give up his relics. Janeway tells the Hirogen Captain that she is prepared to offer him something in return for her crew. The Hirogen tells Janeway that the rest of the group is arriving and she has a chance to run. “We don’t run.” Janeway says. “Don’t be a fool!” yells the Hirogen. “Leave! Save yourself!” Janeway tells the Hirogen to give back her people. “They are mine!” yells the Hirogen. “Then get ready for a fight!” says Janeway. “Red alert!” * * * The Hirogen officer tells the Captain that they should wait for the rest of the group and join the battle. “They can wage the battle themselves!” says the Captain. “Or perhaps your interest in relics has clouded your judgment!” yells the officer. Tuvok interrupts them and tells the leader that if he kills them, Captain Janeway will attack and show no mercy. The Hirogen leader says that he is not worried. The Hirogen picks up a scanner. “A long coiled intestine. An interesting trophy!” he tells Seven. “What possible use could you have for my intestine?” asks Seven. “It is an unusual relic. I will be envied by men and pursued by women.” the leader says. “You are a crude species. Only your size makes for formidable.” says Seven. The Hirogen leader grabs Seven's neck. “Your insults are as pitiful as your efforts to escape!” he yells. He tells his officer to lower the harness. He plans to kill Tuvok first. “I want the female to witness what will happen to her.” says the leader. “Their bone structure makes it difficult to attack from the back. This will take time.” the Hirogen says as he grabs a knife. * * * Torres informs the Captain that it will take her about thirty minutes to get the rest of the letters and information. Harry tells the Captain that the Hirogen ship has plating that scatters their targeting scanners. Paris reports that three more vessels are approaching and all have massive weaponry. Janeway realizes that they are out gunned. Janeway gets an idea. They can increase the power of the singularity. Voyager fires a thoron burst at the relay station. The thoron burst works. Harry tries to beam Tuvok and Seven out ,but he can’t get a stable lock. Then the ship starts to shake. * * * The Hirogen leader is distracted by the shaking. Tuvok comes behind him and hits him. The Hirogen picks up Tuvok and throws him across the room. The Captain orders one of his officers to get the weapons online. The other Hirogen vessels start to attack Voyager. * * * Torres contacts the bridge and tells Janeway that she has as many letters as she is going to get. The Hirogen weapons along with the gravametric forces, are shaking Voyager. All of the weapons fire is destabilizing the singularity. Harry shouts that the singularity is being exposed. * * * The relay station is sucked in by the black hole. All of the Hirogen ships and Voyager are slowly being pulled in. Three Hirogen vessels are sucked in. * * * Harry tells the Captain that the vessel with Seven and Tuvok on it is still being pulled in. Harry tries to transport ,but their patterns are being distorted. Voyager locks a tractor beam onto the vessel. Then the beam collapses. The ship heads for the black hole. The ship starts to rip apart. “Got ‘em!” shouts Harry. “They’re in transporter room two!” Then he announces that Voyager is being pulled in too. Janeway tells Paris to put all power to engines. She then orders Harry to open the antimatter ejectors. “That could cause a warp core breach!” shouts Harry. “So can the black hole.” Janeway replies. In a couple of seconds Voyager breaks free of the black hole and resumes a course for the Alpha Quadrant. * * * Torres calls the Captain down to Astrometrics. When she arrives Torres gives her some bad news. Torres says that the energy of the black hole disabled every relay station across the galaxy. Torres says that she managed to get some more Starfleet information and a few letters just before the relay collapsed. Torres says that it will take time to decode the Starfleet information and Harry should work on it. Torres tells Janeway that she has a few letters to deliver. “Neelix can do that.” says Janeway. “No. Besides, there is one I want to deliver personally.” Torres leaves and Janeway is by herself in Astrometrics. * * * Torres enters the bridge and sees Harry working at his console. “Good news, Harry. I got this one right at the last minute.” A smile appears on Harry’s face. “It’s from my folks! Thanks!” He starts to read it and his face is still beaming. Torres leaves Kim and walks over to Tom. “I’m sorry Tom. I wasn’t able to download your letter before the relay collapsed. “Just as I was beginning to get excited.” says Tom. “You could assume that he said that he loves you and is proud of you.” Torres tells him. “I think I will.” * * * In Janeway’s ready room, Tuvok fills in the Captain on the Hirogen. “I learned little about the Hirogen, but I think we should consider them extremely dangerous. They lack any moral center.” “Do you know why the relay was so important to them” “No, but they probably used it for communication, as we did.” “Not anymore,” says Janeway. “They will not be pleased. I doubt we have seen the last of them” * * * Later, in Janeway’s ready room, Chakotay fills in Janeway on the ship’s condition. He says that the ship is fine except for a few minor things which the engineering crew is working on. “Coffee?” asks Janeway. Chakotay says yes. Janeway asks if he wants sugar in it. “Two sugars,” says Chakotay. “Two sugars?!” asks a shocked Janeway. “You drink to much of that stuff. Isn’t that your third cup today?” “Fourth. Coffee the finest organic suspension ever devised. I’ve gotten through the past three years with it. I beat the Borg with it.” Janeway and Chakotay both start to laugh. “The ship is fine ,but I think the crew isn’t. I think they were expecting mail to be a regular part of their day.” Janeway says. Chakotay tells Janeway that Neelix is putting together a party. “Leave it to Neelix to come up with the right thing at the right time.” says Janeway. Chakotay asks Janeway how she is feeling. She says that she is fine. “You would say that if your legs just got torn off by a Trakir Beast. W finally make contact with home only to have the array destroyed, we made another enemy who’s going to try and destroy us, and to top it off.......” “You can says it. I got a dear John letter. I didn’t expect him to wait forever. I was using Mark as a safety net. My life is far from uneventful here in the Delta Quadrant. It’s not like I have a chance to pursue a relationship even if I had realized I was alone.” “You’re hardly alone. There’s still plenty of time.” “Plenty of time.” Neelix then contacts Janeway. “The party is about to begin and only two people are missing.” “We’re on our way.” replies Janeway. Janeway and Chakotay stand up. Janeway wraps her arm around Chakotay’s arm and they leave for the party.

My Review
This episode was, in my opinion, the best Star Trek Voyager episode to date! It had lots of character development. Kate Mulgrew delivered a great performance. My favorite scene was when Janeway was reading her letter. The scene where Torres found out that the Maquis had been destroyed was also great. Garrett Wang was good as Harry. I'm glad that Harry got his letter at the end. All of the actors did a good job in this episode. Tuvok and Neelix had a good scene. I kind of wish that the array wasn't destroyed, but it would kind of be boring for the crew to be in constant contact with home. The Hirogen look like they will be a great enemy. All in all Hunters was great. This is the first episode which I have given five badges to. Hunters has started the Hirogen Arc off with a bang. One more thing. The beginning of the episode was pretty neat.
