Synopsis
Captain Janeway has been altered to look like a Klingon. She has a batleth. She is fighting off a Hirogen with it. Janeway is then knocked to the ground by another Hirogen. “This battle is yours today, but the house of Mokai will never yield!” she screams. The Hirogen says that he wanted to kill her from the back, but he wanted to see the fear in her eyes. “Look closely and you will see your own destruction!” Janeway screams. “You are a resilient prey.” “I’m no one’s prey!” She rushes toward the Hirogen. At that moment he throws a blade. It lodges into Janeway’s stomach. She collapses to the ground. The Hirogen activates the commbadge that is in his hand. “Sickbay, this is holodeck two. Janeway requires medical assistance. * * * There are about five Hirogen vessels surrounding Voyager. In the sickbay a Hirogen tells the Hirogen who was fighting Janeway that she will survive. “What about the neural interface?” “Stable.” “Are you sure? There were times when she seemed....aware of who she is.” “Impossible. I was monitoring the crew the entire time. She believes she is whoever we program her to be.” The Hirogen asks the other Hirogen if he should return Janeway to holodeck two. “No. Bring her to holodeck one. There is a new program I want to try. It is a conflict that took place on her own planet. It should prove.........stimulating.” * * * Seven is standing on a stage in a small restaurant. She is wearing a sparkling, silver dress. Someone starts to play the piano. Seven begins to sing. “Ohhh would it be wrong to kiss? Saying I feel that I care. Would it be wrong to try. Oh would it be wrong to stay here in your arms this way, under the starry sky. If it is wrong then why would you......” Seven continues to sing, but the view shifts to Janeway. She is wearing a white suit. “Welcome! I’m Catrine. The first round is one me, under one condition. You leave the war outside.” She smiles and shows them their table. A waiter walks by her. She stops him. “More escargot for table nine.” He nods and continues on his way. Janeway walks to a nearby table. She starts to talk to the man that is sitting there. “Jaque? No lady tonight?” She starts to laugh. “We’ll have to see what we can do about that.” She leaves the man and walks over to another table. She sits down. A group of people are sitting their also. “Sorry about neglecting you. Now where was I? Ah yes! My latest adventure in Paris!” As she begins to tell her story. She sees Tuvok looking at her. She turns around a sees two Nazi soldiers at the door. One of them is a Hirogen and the other is Human. Janeway doesn’t seem to notice that one is Hirogen. “I’m afraid I’m going to have to neglect you again! Excuse me!” she says with a laugh. The people at the table seem disappointed. Janeway walks over to Tuvok. “Is that him?” “The Commandant. British intelligence believes that he was sent here to oversee the occupation of the city.” “What’s his history?” “He served with Romeel in North Africa and Schmidt in Poland. He’s a formidable military strategist, notorious for his cruelty.” “Well....let’s make him feel at home. Give him some wine, my compliments.” “Shall I give him the twenty - nine?” “I hate to waste good wine. Give him the thirty - six.” “As you wish.” Meanwhile Seven continues to sing. “And I have waited so long. It must be right. It can’t be wrong.” Seven bows and everyone in the restaurant applauses her. “Thank you, but be generous to Claude. Without him my voice would be empty.” The audience applauds again. Seven walks away. She passes one two Hirogen in Nazi uniforms. As Seven walks by one of them grabs her arm. “Sing,” he says. “Tonight’s performance is over. Return again tomorrow.” “Now!” “Remove your hand,” Seven tells the Hirogen. “Obey me or I will hunt you down and your bones will adore the bulkhead of my ship.” The other Hirogen talks to him. “Sit down and play the game! In this setting we have no ships. We are a race of soldiers bent on taking over this world. Play the game!” The Hirogen then decides to sit down. Janeway notices the argument and walks over to Seven’s side. “Now what’s this? She’ll be glad to sing another song. She just needs to freshen up.” “It is late,” Seven tells Janeway. “Freshen up,” Janeway commands. “Very well.” After Seven leaves Janeway talks to the Hirogen/Nazis. “I’m Catrine, the owner of this establishment. The first round is on me under one condition.............you leave the war outside.” “I’d like to speak to you alone.” the Commandant tells Janeway. The Hirogen with him leaves. “Charming fellow,” Janeway says, referring to the departing Hirogen. “He’s a little disoriented. Your world is unfamiliar to him.” “He’ll be comfortable soon enough. The arms of France are open to all.” “I’ve heard otherwise.” “What do you mean?” “I understand that there is some opposition to our presence here.” “You mean the resistance? In Paris maybe, but this is a small town, defenseless. We’ve learned to be a little more diplomatic. When this war is over we want to remain on good terms with the victor.” “Whoever that may be.” the Hirogen commander says. “Whoever that may be.” Janeway echoes. They then pour wine and have a toast. The Hirogen/Nazi continues to talk. “Your town may be defenseless, but it is critical to the war. The resistance will come here.” “If they do I’ll tell them the same thing I’ve told everyone else..............leave the war outside.” “Excellent.” Just then the second Hirogen comes up to the Commandant Hirogen. “I’ve been informed there is a problem in the engineering section. The warp plasma network is unstable.” “What’s he talking about?” a puzzled Janeway asks. “I need not concern you,” the Commandant tells her. As he leaves he gives Janeway a toast. “To the hunt.” “The hunt?” “For the resistance. I’ll take great pleasure in tracking them down and making the kill.” * * * “How’d we do?” Janeway asks Seven. The restaurant is closed. Seven is counting the money they have made. “Insufficient for a Saturday night.” Seven says. “We have one thousand forty - seven franks and eighty - one rightmans.” “It should be enough to buy us an oscillator to extend the range of our radio.” Janeway remarks. “The first thing in the morning you’re going to take a little trip to the countryside. There is a man who has a cottage past the third bridge. He has a wine cellar full of vacuum tubes. We need a high frequency oscillator. Offer three hundred franks, no higher than five hundred.” “We have more pressing needs. We need a launcher that can launch armor piercing grenades.” Seven tells Janeway. “Are you planning on blowing up a German tank?” “If necessary.” “We’re not building an army here.” “Maybe it’s time that we did. Three more German battalions have occupied the city. When the Americans arrive I don’t intend to be standing in front of the piano singing Moonlight Becomes You.” “The Americans won’t be able to approach the city without our help, and if we can’t liberate St. Claire we can rule out any assault on Germany.” “I’m tired of lighting the Nazis cigarettes and laughing at their jokes. We should be helping the allies by assassinating these pigs.” “We can’t expose ourselves. We’ve got to hang on a little bit longer.” Seven turns and walks away. Tuvok walks to Janeway’s side. “Again?” he asks. “Again! What she’s proposing would reveal us.” “Maybe that’s her intention. From the beginning she’s disobeyed orders and her behavior has threatened the resistance.” “We’ll have to eliminate her if she causes any more trouble.” * * * Neelix is riding a bike on the streets of St. Claire. He passes a woman who is walking on the sidewalk. “Bonjour madam!” he greets her. She greets him back. As Neelix passes a fruit stand he picks up one of the fruits. “Put in on my account!” he yells back to the owner. The owner nods. As he passes two German officers he greets them to. “Gutentag!” “You! Halt!” one of the Hirogen/Nazi shouts. Neelix stops. “Get off your vehicle. What are you transporting?” “Noting but the essentials of life.” a cheerful Neelix replies. The Hirogen reaches into the bike basket and picks up a bottle of wine. He pours out the wine. He then picks up a loaf of French bread and breaks it. He then throws it onto the street. “Proceed to your destination.” “That I will. I most certainly will.” As Neelix prepares to leave the Hirogen leans forward. “If it were my choice you would already be dead.” * * * “I’m missing it,” B’Elanna says to no one in particular. B’Elanna is listening to the British Radio Network. She is trying to decipher a coded message. The British voice on the radio gives a weather update. Meanwhile, a couple of feet away from B’Elanna, Janeway and Tuvok go over a recent intelligence report. Tuvok takes a painting off the wall. On the back of it is a map. “Recent intelligence shows two German armored divisions here and here.” “How recent?” Janeway asks. “Two days,” replies Tuvok. “Old news,” Janeway remarks. Meanwhile the radio announcer continues to talk. This EBS broadcast will repeat in forty - five seconds.” “Here’s to English procedure.” B’Elanna comments. All of a sudden there is a knock on the restaurant door. Janeway picks up a gun. She heads to the door. “We’re closed!” she says. “Special delivery!” the voice shouts. Janeway recognizes the voice and lets Neelix in. “You’re late. What happened?” “Oh, just a little run in with some Nazis.” “It sounds like they’re increasing their patrol. Perhaps we should choose another courier.” suggests Tuvok. “No need to worry. I change my route every day and I’ve become quite friendly with the Gestapo.” Neelix then peels off the label on the wine bottle. There is a coded message on it. He hands it to Janeway, who hands it to Torres. Torres starts to decode it. “It’s straight from Ally High Command.” “It must be important!” says Neelix. “All messages regarding the war are important. It is just a matter of degree.” Tuvok tells him. “I suppose so, but do you have to put it so logically?” “In any covert battle, logic is a potent weapon. You might try it sometime.” Torres has finally decoded the message. “Reach St. Claire in two days.......require assistance..............deactivate communications system in Nazi building.” “That whole building is surrounded by guards! We can’t just waltz on in there and plant a bomb!” observes Neelix. “Maybe I can help.” says Torres. “How?” asks a curious Janeway. “I’m upset....I need to see my special friend.........even if it meant bothering him at his work.” “A reconnaissance mission,” Tuvok observes. “You’ll be tortured if you’re caught.” Janeway tells her. “You don’t know my....special friend. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt his own child.” B’Elanna says looking at her stomach. * * * Torres climbs up some stairs, that lead to a sidewalk, that leads to Nazi headquarters. As she slowly climbs the steps a woman walks by and spits at her feet. Torres doesn’t seem bothered by gesture. As she reaches the front entrance she gasps and pretends to be in pain. “Oh!” she cries. One of the Nazi guards rushes over to help Torres. * * * “I’ve always admired this painting. Some people would prefer gold or silver, but I think that the greatest prize of war is art.” a Human/Nazi says. “Trophies of the hunt. But was the hunt fair?” asks the Hirogen Commandant. “Sir?” the puzzled Human asks. “You entered this city against a weakened prey. Do you really deserve these prizes?” “We are German. We deserve Europe and everything in it.” “Why?” “Are you questioning our destiny sir?” “No, I just want to hear it in your own words.” “Our blood is pure. We have lived and hunted on this land for over a thousand years the degenerate races arrived. Europe must be purified!” “You are superior to no one!” the Commandant says, grabbing the officer’s neck. “Never underestimate your prey and its abilities! If you do, you will become the hunted. When the opposing army invades......remember my words.” Then there is a knock at the door. “Enter!” The door opens to reveal Torres and a Human/Nazi. “Brigitte!” exclaims the Human officer.” “I’m sorry. I know I’m not supposed to come here. Don’t blame him. I had to see you.” “I’ll leave you two alone.” says the Commandant. As the Hirogen leaves the Human officer says, “Hile, Hitler!” Then the Hirogen and Human Nazis leave. “Are you all right? The colonel is in a strange mood today.” Torres and the Human/Nazi hug each other. “Is it our child?” “I don’t know. I was dizzy.” “I’ll call a Doctor.” “No! I feel better now. I just needed to come and see you. Why haven’t you shown me this place before?” asks Torres, trying to change the subject. “I didn’t want the neighbors to see you come in. They give us a hard enough time knowing that we’re together.” “I don’t care what they think.” Torres and the Human hug each other. “Look at all of these....wonderful things!” Torres looks around and sees some paintings. She then sees a man receiving a telegraph. * * * Two Hirogen in Nazi uniforms are walking down the streets of St. Claire. “The Commandant would have us continue these simulations until we rot. He believes we should learn more about our prey.. I have learned enough. Ready your weapon. Avoid the cranium.” he tells the other Hirogen. They aim their guns at Neelix. He is riding his bike. They start to fire. Neelix jumps off of his bike. He jumps into the air trying to dodge the bullets aimed at his legs. The two Hirogen shoot rapidly. All of a sudden Seven appears. She points her own gun at the Hirogen and fires at will. The two Hirogen take cover behind the edge of a building. Seven then grabs Neelix’s arm and pulls him along with her. “This way!” “What about the message?” “There is no time!” Seven pulls Neelix with her toward an alley. She fires back at the Hirogen and the Hirogen fire back at her. Pandemonium erupts in the street. People everywhere are screaming and taking cover. When Seven and Neelix reach the alley they hide in a small alcove. A Nazi vehicle drives right past them. Seven and Neelix emerge from there hiding place. Seven sees the Hirogen, but it is too late. They fire. The bullet hits Seven’s hand and the gun goes flying. Seven and Neelix run farther down the alley. The two Hirogen fire. Seven and Neelix are hit and gunned down. The two Hirogen walk over to the unconscious pair. “Computer, exit holodeck. We’ll take them to the medical bay.” * * * The Doctor scans Seven and Neelix who are both on biobeds. “The neural interface was damaged because your bullets skimmed across her skull!” the Doctor shouts angrily. “I will provide you with another.” the Hirogen Doctor says. “You will install it immediately.” “Not until I finish repairing her injuries.” “How long?” “An hour.” “What about him?” the Hirogen Doctor asks, pointing to Neelix. “He has two bullets in his shoulder.” “I’ll treat him.” “This time you need to do a better job at treating him. Last time you treated a crew member, they came back with internal bleeding.” the Doctor reminds the Hirogen. “Your crew is weak, fragile, they fall easily.” “What do you expect! During the past three weeks they’ve been stabbed, shot, beaten, phasered, and bat ‘lethed. Their bodies aren’t able to stand this kind of punishment!” Just then the sicbay door opens and the Commandant enters. “What happened?” he asks his Hirogen medic. “These prey were hunted by Terran. Their injuries are severe.” “You assured me that your people would avoid causing serious head injuries!” the Doctor shouts. “Another centimeter and the bullet would have penetrated her brain. I f you can’t keep your people under control, then put an end to this blood sport!” “The simulations will continue.” “Then at least activate the safety protocols! That would protect my people and yours as well!” “It would also take away the challenge of the hunt!” “In the last twelve hours I’ve had twenty - eight injuries and one fatality! Even I can’t keep up with that level of triage!” “You will keep it up or they will die. Their lives are in your hands, Doctor. Don’t fail them.” The Hirogen Commandant then tells his medic to send Neelix to holodeck two. “Let’s see how he fares with the Klingons.” “What about her?” “Put her back in holodeck one. I like her voice.” * * * Harry Kim is on the bridge at his ops console. He has bruises and cuts on his face. The bridge lights have been dimmed. The Hirogen Captain enters. “Have you made any progress?” “
By cutting through the bulkheads on decks four, five, and sic, I’ve managed to expand the holo grids by five thousand square meters.” “More,” the Hirogen Commandant says. Harry sighs deeply. “Look, I can’t give you any more without compromising the main systems. All decks require an enormous amount of energy. I’ve already rerouted power from all non - essential systems. Any more and we’ll loose propulsion, deflectors, and even life support.” “I’ll transfer a supply of power modules from my vessels. You will integrate them into Voyager’s systems. I want the holo grid extended into all surrounding sections. You will replicate enough emitters for the task.” “Yes,sir.” * * * Kim and Ashmore are taking off a panel in one of Voyager’s corridors. “The holemitters in this corridor are stable. Let’s move on to section nineteen. But first.........tell the guard that you need to go to engineering. If he asks tell him that we need more equipment, specifically a type three isolinear emitter. If he gives you any trouble tell him that we can’t finish our work without it.” Ashmore nods. Ashmore walks over to the Hirogen guard. “We need another emitter from engineering.” he tells him. When they enter the turbolift Harry accesses the controls. In a few seconds the Doctor appears before him. “Ensign., how did I get here?” “I brought you here using the new emitters in this section.” “I assume you have a plan?” “Half a plan.” “Let’s here it.” “Well, before we can retake the ship we have to get the crew back.” “Easier said than done. The great hunters are everywhere you turn.” the Doctor notes. “I think I’ve found a way to tap into the sickbay diagnostic console. The only catch is......” Harry stops. He hears the turbolift coming to a stop. The Hirogen and Ashmore step out of the turbolift. The Hirogen has a large weapon in his hand. They start to walk down the corridor. All of a sudden Harry appears around the corner. “Stand by with the emitter. I’m almost done here.” The Hirogen and Ashmore come to a stop. The Hirogen gives Ashmore a suspicious look. When Harry is out of the Hirogen’s sight, the Doctor returns. “The catch Ensign?” “Someone has got to be inside the holodeck to engage the bridge control relays.” “We’re shorthanded.” “I know.” “Well, we’ve got a Borg on board don’t we? Maybe it’s time we put her to use.” the Doctor suggests. * * * The Hirogen Alpha is in Janeway’s ready room. There are some nets hanging from the wall. There is something that looks like a Human skeleton in one of the nets. The Hirogen Alpha is wearing a Nazi Commandant uniform. The door opens and the Hirogen first enters. The Hirogen Alpha begins to talk. “I’ve been studying Voyager’s database, looking for our next simulation. There are so many to choose from. These people have a violent history. I believe I’ve found a worthy prey.” He then turns the monitor on Janeway’s desk around. On the screen there is a picture of a Borg drone. “The Borg. When World War II is over, we will recreate a notorious battle called Wolf 359.” “I look forward to it.” the Hirogen first tells his Captain. “It thought you might, but if you continue to disobey my rules, then this is one hunt that you will never see. You almost killed two of my favorite prey. You were careless.” “I was impatient. We penetrated this vessel, over came their defenses, and in the moment of the kill you forced us to stop. Now we play these games. It’s time to take our trophies and move on.” “Your lust for the kill has blinded you, like many young hunters. If you took the time to study your prey, to understand them, you might learn something.” “There is nothing to learn.” “Wrong. Each prey exposes us to another way of life and makes us evaluate our own. Have you ever though what will become of us when this territory is hunted to extinction?” “We will move on like we always have.” “A way of life that hasn’t changed for a thousand years.” “Why should it?” “Species that don’t change, die. We’ve lost our way. We’ve allowed our predatory instincts to dominate us. We disperse our ships throughout the quadrant. We send ships in all directions. We’ve become a solitary race. We’re isolated. We’ve spread ourselves to thin that we are no longer a culture. We have no identity. In a thousand years no one will remember the name : Hirogen. Our people must come together and combine forces. We need to rebuild our empire.” “What of the hunt?” asks the Hirogen first. “The hunt will always continue, only in a new way. I intend to transform this ship into an entire simulation with a never ending supply of prey. The holodecks will allow us to hold on to our past while we face our future. In time this technology can be duplicated for other Hirogen.” “Even if I was persuaded, others wouldn’t be.” the Hirogen first tells his Captain. “Then you are with me? I’ll do some more research. I’ll see you tomorrow in holodeck one. The Americans are preparing to invade.” Then the Hirogen first turns and leaves. * * * Seven is laying unconscious on a biobed. The Doctor picks up a hypospray and gives it to her. Seven wakes up. “Be calm and stay quiet. There is a Hirogen working the bio lab. He might hear us. What is the last thing that you remember?” “There was an attack of Hirogen vessels. They breached our hull and boarded the ship.I was hit several times in a phaser fight on Deck three. That’s all that I remember.” * * * “Then you have no memory of the simulations on the holodeck?” “None.” “The neural interface must be circumventing your memory centers.” “Neural interface?” Seven asks. “It’s a sub dermal transmitter that links your neocortex to the holodeck. In essence, it makes you believe that you’re a character in the program.” “How did I get into sickbay?” “You were wounded. It’s my job to patch you up and send you back. Half the crew is in lock and key, and the rest are fighting for their lives in the holodeck. This has been going on for nineteen days now. Dozens of battle scenarios one more brutal than the next. You should have seen what a mess you were in after the Crusades.” “Will I be sent back into another simulation?” “Yes, but this time with an advantage. I’ve found a way to disable the interface by using your Borg nanoprobes. I can emit a jamming signal. Once the Hirogen put you back in the holodeck, the jamming signal will deactivate within seconds.” “My objective?” “You must find a control panel inside the holodeck and activate the bridge access relays. That will enable Ensign Kim and me to deactivate the rest of the neural interfaces. After Captain Janeway and the rest of the crew regain awareness you must work with them to over throw the Hirogen.” “What simulation will I be placed in?” “World War Two, a Twentieth Century Earth conflict. Do you know anything about it?” “No.” “That might cause a problem. Once the interface is disabled you won’t remember anything about the simulation. Think of it as a new social setting. Do your best to fit in.” Then the Hirogen in the bio lab walks out. Seven pretends to be unconscious. “ This is the last neural interface. When you are finished you will help me replicate more.” The Doctor nods. The Hirogen walks away. “I need to sedate you now.” the Doctor tells Seven. He gives her the hypospray. * * * Seven is back in the holodeck. She is singing. “That old black magic has me in its spell. That old black magic that believes so well. Those icy fingers up and down my spine. The same old witchcraft when your eyes meet!” All of a sudden there is a clicking sound. Seven stops singing. She looks at her clothes and everyone around her. Claude still continues to play the piano. He then stops playing and looks back at Seven. “I must discontinue this activity. I’m.......not well.” Claude nods and plays a different song. Seven walks off the stage. Janeway and the Commandant are sitting at a table. If the entertainment is over, I’ll be going.” “Please stay Commandant. I’m sure she’s fine.” Janeway then gets up and walks over to Seven. “What’s wrong?” “I require a glass of water.” “Well, make it a quick one. I promised the Commandant that you’d be playing until midnight. There’s still a lot of information I want to get out of him.” “I am ill.” Seven tells Janeway. “Look, I don’t care if you’re dying. Get back up there.” “I won’t.” Seven then turns and walks away. Janeway turns and walks over to Tuvok. “Maybe you’re right about her.” she tells Tuvok. “The evidence is increasing. She was present today when our courier was shot down, yet somehow she was unharmed, and on the eve of our liberation she becomes uncooperative.” “Leave this to me.” Janeway tells Tuvok. * * * In a tent somewhere, Chakotay is holding a lamp. He puts it on his desk. A tank goes by his tent. He is a Commander in the United States Army. All of a sudden Paris bursts in. “Captain!” “At ease. What’s the word?” “There is no word. At least not from the good citizens of St. Claire.” “Then we won’t get any support from inside the city.” “You may be underestimating the good citizens of St. Claire.” Paris tells Chakotay. “I once spent a summer there when I was eighteen.....” “Let me guess. You had some snails, fell in love with a local girl, and became an expert on the city.” “Uh....well....yeah... that’s pretty much it.” “I see.” “But believe me Captain. Those people love their city. They’ll fight for it and die for it. Don’t count them out yet.” “All right, but I won’t count them in either. We continue as planned. An assault from the north at first light.” Chakotay offers Paris a drink. He takes it. “So who was this girl?” Chakotay asks. “Brigitte. Great Gams. She had a temper.” “Sounds like your kind of girl.” “August 29th, 1936 at 12:17 P.M. That’s when my train pulled out of St. Claire. That was the last time that I saw her. We wrote to each other every week for three years. Then the war broke out. St. Claire isn’t a big place. It shouldn’t be that hard to find her.” Chakotay tells Paris. “That’s what I’m counting on.” Paris says. Chakotay and Paris then have a toast. * * * “You will maintain position about twenty meters from the doors. You will arm yourself with a machine gun. There is a twenty second gap between the change of guards.” Janeway continues to talk about the plans for their mission. “We’ll leave in one hour.” After Janeway is done talking, Seven walks over to the box of grenades. She picks one up and examines it. She then puts it back. “This won’t make much of a bang.” Janeway tells Seven. “You forgot to connect the detonator.” “I will correct the error.” “If I hadn’t found your little error, it could have undermined our whole mission. Are you having second thoughts about tonight?” “No.” “Good, I don’t want anymore mistakes.” “There will be no more mistakes.” “Let’s hope so.” Janeway says dryly. She then picks up her shotgun. * * * Ensign Kim is in the ready room. He brings the Doctor into the room. “We’ve got to stop meeting like this.” the Doctor tells him. “I’ve managed to scan the holodeck. It looks like Seven is on the move.” “I’m ready in sickbay. My Hirogen taskmaster is still in the bio lab. I have access to the consoles for another twenty minutes.” “That would give me enough time to......” Harry is interrupted when the door swishes open. The Doctor quickly transfers himself back to sickbay as two Hirogen walk in. “Good afternoon,” Harry says. “What are you doing?” “I’m trying to get the replicators back online. Unless you prefer emergency rations. Personally I’m getting tired of synthetic protein. You’re supposed to be the finest hunters in the galaxy, why don’t you find us something a little more tasty?” Harry turns to leave, but the two Hirogen block his path. “Is something wrong?” he asks sounding annoyed. “An unauthorized transmission was sent from this room.” “What kind of transmission?” Harry says, trying to sound clue less. “I don’t know. Maybe you could tell me.” “Well, I was rerouting power from the main computer to the replicators............of course. I must have tripped the communications subroutine. Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to worry you. Your people have damaged about every system on this ship Accidents are bound to happen. If you don’t mind I’m due on the bridge.” Harry is again blocked by the Hirogen. “Show me this subroutine you were doing when the accident occurred.” “Forget it. I don’t have time.” Harry again tries to walk out of the room. This time one of the Hirogen slams his weapon into Harry’s face. Harry falls flat on his back. He is gasping and breathing heavily. “Do as I say!” “All right! All right!” Harry tries to stand up. “You’d better call the bridge and tell your superior that I’m going to be late. I’m working under your orders now, not his. Go ahead! Make the call. I don’t want to be blamed for this.” “Report to the bridge.” “Thanks,” Harry says sarcastically. As he walks out he shoves one of the Hirogen out of his way. The two Hirogen look at each other. * * * Tuvok is in the shadows of the Nazi building. Inside the building a Nazi soldier is listening to a letter coming in. Janeway slowly opens the door. Janeway and Seven are in cat suits, walking very softly. The Nazi notices Janeway. Before he can do anything she swings her gun at him. He falls to the floor. Janeway tells Seven where to put the charges. Janeway then starts to listen to the message coming in. “These must be instructions for troop deployment. While Janeway is talking, Seven walks over to the bookshelf and clears away the books. She then sees a console. She starts tapping the buttons on it. “The Germans must be immobilizing more troops than we initially expected.” Janeway says. Seven still continues to work on the console. * * * Harry is on the dim lighted bridge. Then he hears a noise. “Beep, beep, beep. Beep, beep, beep.” He stops what he is doing and walks slowly across the bridge so he won’t attract attention. He heads toward his Ops console. The monitor there says, “Holodeck one access enabled.” Harry taps the console. * * * The Doctor stops working on an injured crewman and walks over to his medical console. The monitor reads, “Holodeck One Access Enabled.” The Doctor taps the console. The computer brings up a list of crewman. The Doctor chooses one. He smiles. It is Captain Kathryn Janeway. * * * “They know the Americans are coming!” an alarmed Janeway says. When she turns around to talk to Seven she sees that she is working on a strange device. “What is that?” she asks suspiciously. “I believe it is a Nazi communicatation system. I’m attempting to disable it.” “You’re contacting the Nazis!” “No,” Seven tells her. Janeway picks up her shotgun. “Step away.....or I’ll kill you.” * * * The Doctor is working at the console when the Hirogen comes back. “What are you doing?” “Nothing........just running a diagnostic!” “You’ve accessed the neural interface controls! Stop it!” The Hirogen puts a weapon to the Doctor’s head. The Doctor, knowing that the weapon won’t harm him, taps one last button on the console and smiles. * * * “I told you no more mistakes. Well, you’ve just made your last one!” * * * In sickbay the monitor beeps. The monitor reads, “Neural Interface Disabled.” The Doctor is still smiling. * * * Janeway begins to pull the trigger. Right before she fires, their is a click. Janeway grabs her neck and moan. She has her memory back. “Seven?” “Captain.” * * * Neelix has been altered to look like a Klingon. He is in a group with two holographic Klingon and one Hirogen. They are in holodeck two. Neelix stops. He hears a roar from far off. “Listen! A targ, just beyond that ridge.” “You’d hunt a simple beast in the middle of a battle?” asks the Hirogen. “There is no greater enemy than hunger.” Neelix tells him. Then the Hirogen is informed that the Doctor disabled one of the interfaces. He leaves the holodeck. * * * Tuvok sees two Hirogen/Nazis with weapons. He picks up his machine gun and fires. The Hirogen fire blue pulses back at Tuvok. Tuvok runs down some stairs and hides in a small alcove. “Need some help buddy? Captain Miller, fifth armored infiltry.” Chakotay and several other American rush down the stairs. “Welcome to St. Claire.” Tuvok greets them. * * * Seven is looking out the window of the Nazi building. “The Americans have arrived.” she tells Janeway. * * * Torres is by herself inside Janeway’s restaurant. She hears a noise at the door. She picks up a rifle and hides in the corner. She aims her gun at the door. A shadowy figure enters. The lights are turned on and Paris and Torres aim their guns at each other. “Bobby!” “You owe me a postcard.” Paris tells Torres. * * * “Take cover boys! Charlie one isn’t known for his accuracy!” Chakotay tells his group. * * * “Didn’t you tell me that this was Nazi headquarters?” Janeway asks Seven. “I did,” Seven replies. “Then it would be understandable that this building is being targeted. Let’s get out of here!” * * * Seven and Janeway run out of the Nazi building. They continue to run as they hear a whistling sound in the air. A few seconds later, the building catches on fire and explodes sending smoke and debris flying everywhere. Seven and Janeway are caught in the blast and they fly through the air. * * * Voyager shakes violently. Harry grabs on to his console for support. “What happened?” shouts one of the Hirogen. “There was a simulated explosion on the holodeck. It blew out the holo grid across three decks.” “Is the program still running?” “Yes.” * * * Chakotay, Tuvok, and the rest of the men in his group, slowly stand up and a look of amazement spreads across their faces. They are staring at a huge hole that tore a gap three decks wide and tall into Voyager’s hull. “What is it?” asks Tuvok. “It looks like a bunker.” “This is Captain Miller to all units. We’ve just blown the lid on some kind of secret German compound. “We’re going in!” * * * Janeway and Seven stare at each other. Janeway with a shocked look on her face. * * * “Shut down the holodeck.” the Hirogen tells Harry. “I can’t. Not until we can fix the major systems. You wanted a war? Well, it looks like you’re going to get one.” * * * In the holodeck Chakotay and his troops move to the entrance of the breach in Voyager’s hull.................

My Thoughts
The Killing Game Part 1 was quite a bit different than I originally though it would be,but it was still great. This episode cut right to the chase. There wasn’t any scenes that showed the Hirogen taking over Voyager, but Seven explained to the Doctor what she remembered of the takeover. Since the episode cut to the chase there was more time for the story to play out. The characters with major character development in this episode were the Doctor and Harry. The Doc’s best scene was when he explained to the Hirogen that they needed to stop their blood sport. There wasn’t as much action (or battle scenes) in this episode, but Part 2 made up for that. One of my favorite scenes was when Seven and Neelix were being gunned down. Another cool scene was when Janeway and Seven ran from the Nazi building as it exploded and it tore a hole three decks wide in Voyager. The special effects department did some good work in Part 1 and in Part 2. Neelix and the French Resistance Neelix were almost identical. As were Janeway and the Resistance leader Janeway, Seven and her counterpart, and all of the rest of the characters. Seven's singing was pretty good. All in all, The Killing Game Part 1 was pretty satisfying.
