Janeway about Seven's hallucinations

Synopses

Janeway and Seven are in the 16th Century Renaissance holodeck program. They are working with clay. “The first rule is don’t be afraid of the clay.” says Janeway. “I fear nothing.” says Seven. “I mean don’t concern yourself with making mistakes. Just let your hands and the clay do the work. Go ahead. I think the nose could be a little stronger. Janeway hands Seven a ball of clay. Seven touches it with one finger and tries to shape it. “This activity is truly unproductive. The end result has no purpose. Time has been expended, nothing more.” she says. “I think that sculpting helps me to unwind and relax. It depends on how you look at it doesn’t it.” Janeway tells Seven. “As a Borg I was assigned to a certain task. When I was finished I was assigned to another. It was efficient.” “It helps my own efficiency to be here. I like to get away from Voyager and the 24th century every once and a while. You should be in here more often. DaVinchi was a great inspiration to me.” Seven walks away from Janeway and starts to stare at the model airplane that hangs from the ceiling. Janeway explains that Da Vinchi thought up the idea of an airplane centuries before one was actually constructed. Janeway notices that Seven is still staring at the plane. “Seven?” FLASH! Borg are rushing for Seven. “You will be assimilated.” the Borg says. Then she sees a bird. The bird starts to look at Seven. There is a scream from somewhere. “Annika!” Then the bird flies right at Seven. FLASH! “What is it?” asks Janeway. “I do not know.” Seven replies. * * * “It has happened three times. All in different locations at different times of the day.” Seven tells the Doctor. The Doctor tells her to explain her hallucinations. Seven says that she is pursued by Borg and a large black bird flies toward her. The Doctor tells her that her hippo campus is in a state of agitation. “What does that mean?” Seven asks. “You could be experiencing post traumatic stress disorder because of a tense prolong trauma.” “I was raised by the Borg. I don’t see them as threatening.” Then the Doctor informs Seven that she is ready to digest food. Seven says that she would rather stay at her alcove, but the Doctor says that her Human systems require that she has food. She gives Seven a padd that has a list of nutrients that she needs. He tells her to give the list to Neelix. “I hesitate to inflict his cooking upon you, but it will have to do.” says the Doctor. Seven tells Janeway that she did not enjoy the sensation of having the hallucinations. Then Chakotay calls Janeway and tells her that their guests have arrived. Seven looks confused. Janeway tells her that she is negotiating with some aliens so Voyager can pass through their space. “I’ll help you through this Seven.” Janeway says. * * * “Congratulations Captain, against our better judgment, the council has granted you passage through our space.” says the alien ambassador. The aliens are wearing some sort of helmets on their heads. One of the aliens shows what Voyager’s course will be on the main view screen. The course that has been plotted has curves and bends everywhere. “It could take us weeks to follow that course.” Paris complains. The aliens tell Janeway that there are seventeen checkpoints that Voyager has to report to along the way through their space. At the checkpoints Voyager will be inspected. Voyager cannot go past warp two and weapons will not be activated at all. Voyager will not scan their space either. Janeway walks up to the screen and changes the course so it is in a straight line. “Couldn’t we negotiate a course that’s a little more direct?” she asks. * * * Seven walks into the Mess Hall. “What a pleasant surprise to see you here!” Neelix tells Seven. “Welcome to the Mess Hall!” Seven hands Neelix the list of nutrients. Neelix starts to read it. “This doesn’t sound very appetizing.” he says. “My dishes will provide you with nutrients and pleasure at the same time!” he informs Seven. Neelix then tells Seven that there is a certain satisfaction you get from eating a carefully prepared meal. Neelix walks over to one of the pots that has food in it. Neelix asks Seven how she wants her food prepared. “Preparation is irrelevant.” she says. “Better make it steamed.” Neelix says. “You are Talaxian.” Seven says. “Guilty as charged.” says Neelix. “Species 218. Your technological and biological distinction was added to our own.” “I hadn’t realized that.” “They made excellent drones.” Seven tells Neelix. “Lucky for you I guess.” Neelix says unhappily. “Your nutrients!” Neelix says, starting to cheer up. Neelix tells Seven to sit down. She sits down. “What’s wrong?” asks Neelix. “I am Borg. I am not accustomed to sitting down.” “There’s a first time for everything, I guess.” Neelix tells her. Neelix sets a plate of food in front of Seven. Neelix tells Seven that she needs to scoop up the food with the spoon. Then he tells her to put the spoon in her mouth like a scout ship flying into a shuttle bay. Seven puts the food in her mouth. Neelix tells her to chew. Then he tells her to swallow. Seven is confused so Neelix pretends to be swallowing and uses his hand to point to his throat. Then Seven swallows. “Curios sensation,” Seven says with a frown on her face. “You’ll get used to it.” Neelix says smiling. Seven takes another bite and swallows again. Neelix asks her if she would like a cup of tea. FLASH! Seven sees a Borg in its alcove. It opens its mouth and screeches like the bird in Seven’s earlier hallucination. FLASH! On Seven’s hand a round Borg implant suddenly shoots out. Neelix gasps. “You will be assimilated! Resistance is futile. ” Seven says. Seven stands up and pushes Neelix out of his chair. She walks out of the Mess Hall as crew members come to help Neelix. * * * “Definitely not,” the alien says. The aliens tell Janeway that Voyager will use the course that they have mapped out for them. “Are your transmitters malfunctioning?” one of the aliens asks Janeway. Janeway is starting to dislike the Bomar. Chakotay calls the conference room and tells Janeway that Seven attacked Neelix in the Mess Hall and three other crew members in the corridors. Janeway enters the bridge. She tells Tuvok to take a security team and stop Seven. The aliens follow Janeway onto the bridge. “Captain what’s going on here?” they ask. * * * In the hallway two crew members approach Seven. When she doesn’t stop they fire their phasers at her. The beam hits Seven in the shoulder. She looks at her arm and then continues on down the corridor. The confused crew members continue to fire at Seven, but the phasers will not work because Seven’s Borg shields are up. * * * On the bridge a security crewman contacts Janeway. He tells her that Seven’s Borg shields are up. Janeway tells all crewman to set phasers to a rotating modulation. “Borg!? You have Borg on your ship?” The aliens ask Janeway. “We liberated her from the Collective. She’s no longer Borg.” says Janeway. “Then why are her Borg shields operating?” “I wish I knew.” * * * As Seven walks through the corridor she passes right through a force field. * * * Chakotay informs Janeway that Seven has entered the armory on Deck 6. * * * Seven walks out of the armory with a phaser rifle. She heads into a turbolift. * * * Chakotay tells Janeway that Seven has stopped their attempts to stop the turbolift with Borg encryption codes. * * * Tuvok and two other crewmen are in position outside the turbolift. They here the turbolift coming to a stop. Seven walks out with the phaser rifle in her hand. Tuvok tells her to stop. Seven fires a phaser pulse at him. She misses and the security team opens fire. The phasers do not damage Seven. The two crewmen are hit by the phaser. Seven continues toward the shuttle bay. * * * From the bridge Chakotay puts a force field around the shuttle bay. * * * When Seven reaches the shuttle bay she finds that there is a force field around the door. Seven starts tapping the controls. * * * Chakotay tells Janeway that Seven is getting into the transporter systems. * * * Seven of Nine beams herself into a shuttle craft. * * * Janeway tells Chakotay to lock the shuttle bay doors. * * * From outside of Voyager we see Seven’s shuttle punch a hole through the bay doors. * * * Voyager’s tractor beam tries to lock onto Seven’s shuttle with no effect. The shuttle’s shields have been modulated. Seven’s shuttle goes to warp. Seven has masked the ion trail. “She’s gone,” says Kim. * * * Janeway tells the aliens that she is going to do everything in her power to stop Seven. “Let’s tally the events shall we? First you arrive unwelcome and request permission to enter our space. Then you unleash a rogue Borg and you want to enter our space to chase after it?” one of the aliens says. “The Borg’s shuttle will be tracked down and destroyed. It is being tracked at this very moment.” the other alien says. Then he explains how they have an advanced detection grid that analyzes every particle that enters their space. * * * Janeway assembles a crew to analyze the cargo bay that has the Borg alcove in it. She wants to find any clue to why Seven left. While Torres is scanning the bay with her tricorder she walks up to Harry. “You’re taking this kind of hard, aren’t you?” “What’s that supposed to mean? We had a working relationship.” says Harry. “What’s that supposed to mean?” B’Elanna asks. “It’s not what your thinking.” “What am I thinking, Harry?” “Never mind,” Harry tells B’Elanna. Torres continues her scans. She finds a Borg data link that contains log entries written in Borg alpha numeric code. Harry says that he is getting good at the Borg language and he might be able to translate it. * * * Chakotay says that they have made quite an impression on the Bomar because they have doubled the amount of ships patrolling the border in the last hour. While Chakotay and Janeway are walking to sickbay they start talking about Seven. Chakotay says that no matter how many implants they remove Seven will always be Borg. Janeway tells Chakotay that Seven was responding and adapting to her environment on Voyager. Chakotay suggests that Seven is trying to reach Borg space. “Ten thousand light years from here? I don’t think so. We’re missing a piece of the puzzle.” In sickbay the Doctor says that the dormant nanoprobes have reasserted themselves. The Doctor gives Janeway a hypospray. Inside is an antidote that will stop what is happening to Seven. * * * On the bridge, Paris says that he can take a shuttle through the grid if he modulates the shields and lowers the engine levels. Janeway says that Tuvok will go with him. She also says that once the shuttle is past the border of Bomar space their is to be no communication between the shuttle and Voyager. Tuvok notes that the antidote could fail. “If the antidote fails and she won’t reason with you, you have my authorization to use any force necessary to stop her.” says Janeway. * * * On the shuttle Seven has another flashback. She tries to hide from the Borg, but they find her. Her flashback is interrupted by the beeping of a console. When Seven checks to see what is wrong she sees a fleet of Bomar ships heading directly toward her. * * * The alien contacts the shuttle. “Borg drone, you have committed an infraction against the Bomar Soventy. Disengage your engines and prepare to be boarded. You will not go any further....” Before the alien can finish Seven modulates her shields and pilots the shuttle directly into the Bomar vessel. Seven’s shuttle bounces off the Bomar vessels and is not damaged by their weapons. * * * Paris and Tuvok are catching up to Seven. Tuvok says that five Bomar vessels have been disabled or severely damaged. Seven’s shuttle is unharmed. Tuvok tells Paris that he is going to transport onto the shuttle and try to give Seven the hypospray. Tom tells him that that isn’t a good idea. Tuvok says that he hopes the element of surprise will work in his favor. He asks Paris if he has a better idea. Tom says no and he beams Tuvok onto Seven's shuttle. When Tuvok beams aboard he battles Seven. Seven gives him the Vulcan nerve pinch and Tuvok falls to the ground. Seven fires phasers at Tom’s shuttle. Tom’s shuttle spins wildly out of control. * * * Tuvok wakes up to find himself behind a force field. “That is a Level 5 force field. I suggest you be more careful, Lieutenant.” says Seven. Tuvok asks Seven why she left Voyager. “I am Borg.” she replies. “You are Human now. You are part of the crew.” “For a brief time I was Human. I will always be Borg.” Seven tells Tuvok that she is following a Borg homing beacon. Tuvok tells her that there are no Borg in this region of space. “They are here. Vulcan. Species 3259. Your distinctiveness will be added to our..... No. I will not assimilate you. I will join the Collective. You will return to Voyager. Thank Janeway for her kindness, her patience. Tuvok tells Seven that she is showing signs of sentiment, a trait of Humans. Seven has another flashback. “I can hear them calling me.” she says. Tuvok tells Seven to lower the force field. He tells Seven that he is her shipmate and they can return to Voyager together. * * * In the Borg cargo bay Janeway is standing in Seven’s Borg alcove. “Am I disturbing you?” Harry asks as he walks up to Janeway. Janeway says no. Kim says that he has deciphered the logs. He says that her logs describe her daily routines. “I’m mentioned in quite a few of them . She finds my behavior easy to predict.” says Harry. “Don’t take it personally. From Seven, that’s probably a compliment.” says Janeway. Janeway starts to read about Seven’s hallucinations. Several times Seven describes a bird rushing at her. “It sounds like she’s describing a crow..................or a raven.” Janeway whispers. “Why’s that important?” Harry asks. “Because now I know what to look for!” Janeway says as she runs out of the cargo bay. On the bridge Janeway tells Chakotay to set a course for Bomar space. * * * Seven tells Tuvok that the Borg are waiting for her and her fear will disappear when she rejoins the Collective. Tuvok tells Seven to let him accompany her. “You will be assimilated.” says Seven. Tuvok tells Seven that he thinks the situation is different than Seven thinks. Seven lowers the force field. * * * Janeway tells Paris that several Bomar ships are heading directly toward him. Paris tells Janeway that Tuvok and Seven are on the planet. * * * On the surface of the planet Tuvok and Seven see a Federation ship. It has been partially assimilated by the Borg. It has been on the planet for nearly twenty years. They enter the vessel. Seven says that it looks familiar. Tuvok and Seven find a console that is beeping. It is the signal that Seven was going after. Then Seven has a flashback. Annika, the little girl, runs. Her mom and dad are captured by the Borg. Seven’s flashback is over. “Papa? Help me,” she says. Seven then hides under the console that was beeping. Tuvok tells Seven to get up. Seven does. “This is where I was assimilated.” she says. Seven rubs the dust off the dedication plaque. We find out that the name of the ship is “The Raven.” “I lived here. I had my birthday here. The cake had six candles and one to grow on. Then the men came. Papa tried to stop them ,but they were too strong. I tried to hide. I thought they wouldn’t find me because I was little. Then they found me. Papa said we were going to crash. Then we weren’t on the ship anymore. We were somewhere else. Then I became Borg.” All of a sudden the ship starts to shake. Tuvok says that it is the Bomar. Tuvok says that the ship will collapse and they need to get out. * * * Voyager targets the Bomar vessels. * * * Tuvok and Seven find out that the entrance is blocked by wreckage. Tuvok finds a rupture in the ship, but it is too small to escape through. They start to dig through the wreckage. * * * Voyager disables two Bomar vessels. The third hails them. “You are committing acts of war.” Janeway tells Chakotay to target weapons. Seven and Tuvok manage to escape the ship. They look back in time to see the front end fall off the edge of the cliff it is on. Then Tuvok and Seven are beamed aboard the shuttle. * * * On Voyager Kim says that sixty eight Bomar ships are on their way. Janeway tells Kim to get Voyager out of Bomar space at warp 8, once Paris’s shuttle is aboard. “Looks like there won’t be any shortcuts this time.” Janeway says. * * * Janeway finds Seven in the Renaissance holodeck program. She tells her that the Doctor has found a way to modify the nanoprobes so Seven won’t receive any more signals. Janeway tells Seven that if she wants more information on her parents that she can look in the Starfleet database. Seven starts to wonder what life would be like if she hadn’t been assimilated by the Borg. Then she leaves the holodeck and leaves Janeway by herself.

My Thoughts

Was it just me or did anyone think that the Bomar were really annoying? Besides that this episode was great! I wasn't sure about this episode when I saw the previews though. This episode is my favorite Seven of Nine episode so far.
